I'm so glad someone captured this. I was at this show, and my friend and I were crying during the whole song, as were many others in the audience. It was beautiful and hearbreaking, especially with the slideshow that was played behind the band.

That's interesting to hear how much Ray Charles had on him. He's got the style, rhythm and timing like Ray. Donald Fagan is musical genius. And I don't use that term often. Paul, please let your guest speak more. Nice interview. 😊

A hidden treasure. Love hearing Donald Fegan talk about the feelings in his hands about the music that flows from them. Those are words from a true master.

At first I thought "Fagan doesn't seem exactly thrilled to be there", then as it goes on I realized why. He had already spent some time with Paul up to this point and had no doubt endured enough of this crap. He was gracious to see it through, for OUR sake, and was no doubt relieved when it was over. I completely understand if he has no desire to do this again. Hopefully he will let someone else talk with him in a conversation with us getting to watch. I would love to get an interview by Beato or Tim Pierce, or many others that are good at this sort of thing and love and appreciate Steely Dan as we do. Hopefully Paul didn't destroy any chance of that happening.

That ending summed it up very well. Fagan says it was like being back in school, to which Paul interprets that as a learning experience. Problem is Fagen clarified he was waiting for that 3:00 bell so he could get the hell out of there. Yes, this could have, and should have, been an awesome interview if only there had been an interview and not a monologue by the host, with the guest sitting through it along with the rest of us. I came for the genius legend Donald Fagen and Paul just stepped between us and said "let me tell you what I want you to hear about him. You don't need him hear at all, I've got this". This just served to make Fagen even less enthusiastic about doing more shows of this sort. I hope Paul didn't screw up any shot we have at hearing an interview by say Rick Beato for example.

I always remember this story when I think or hear, Home At Last. It was a snippet I heard where she spoke of the "Well the, well the, etc. I thought that she walked. Apparently, she hung in. Cracks me up. It’s nice to hear her defend the process.

Paul was such a fan girl. Probably not many that’s he’d try to impress besides Fagen. Pretty rough dig at the end at Paul’s expense though… “it’s been like school!” “Yeah, .. where you’re staring out the window waiting for 3 o’clock…” ouch.

I would have walked out if I were Fagen when Paul admitted he'd never heard IGY before. WTF Paul? Everyone knows this song.

I know nothing about Paul Shaffer, except that he mistakenly believes that Goffin and King worked in the Brill building, look it up, but I would have known more about Donald Fagen if Shaffer would shut up and let Donald speak without interruption.

Obviously it was a Steely Dan tune, not just an excellent first work..

This is the first time of countless times I will subsequently listen to this.
