Very good video thx
Better to get two free 200w solar panels, use hinges and make it a suitcase. In Australia, old polycrystalline solar panels are free now. I collected 20 free solar panels last week.
Sorry ..but you got this test completely f....up...stupidity
what size wire are you using ? I noticed A big improvment running 0 gauge wire .
It’s a fire hazard
No worse than the big brands
It’s a shame that a loose terminal failed it but that is a worry Unfortunately I have seen two of the king’s battery boxes melt in the lid for the exact same thing Under the internal lid loose terminations on the cables
What size cables were going into the dcdc?
@@shameelali2549 16mm2
Thankyou,I can't see how 25mm2 would fit feural or no feural,iv tried.
I don’t think Kings use A Grade cells due to the low cycles whereas an A grade cell would give you upto 6000 cycles
I have this battery in my Avan now for 6 months It has never gotten below 12 volts running my fridge 24-7 On solar and while in the bush for two months gold detecting Never flat not even below 12 volt That’s TV lights fridge battery charging my gear too Had no problems with it lipo4 only Have the 130 in my truck running my other fridge 24-7 never below 12 CANOT say anything bad about them
$2770 is a lotta cash 💰 but it’s a very nice battery
Hey mate, so if I was looking for a portable panel set up to 300w, what would be your top picks?
I have only had one experience with KINGS and it was my last, they failed in every aspect of business, from product through to customer service and everywhere in between, NEVER AGAIN.
The capacity is probably there. Heaps of heat loss with the high current draw. Losts of glue, huge case, blocks on top with glue. It's a bit like buying a second hand car with a new paint job. You don't get to see what's under the paint. Better to buy the cells and a better BMS and put it together yourself. Much cheaper or much bigger capacity.
The missing A/H was in the hot battery terminal
Victron battery has no bms inside so can be smaller.
It’s worth noting when testing this there may be a few issues simply because they have not been that many software updates so if there’s any issues they may not be fixed
Hi Craig. I acnnot find any current sellers of the 240W Thunder unit. Is it still available to your knowledge
@@timbriglia5584 I think they are all sold out now.
You need to move the gas bottles away from electrical heaters
Yep done… that was before it was plumbed in… they are now on the very far left hand side.
Well, they can't call it 200 if it's not 200
Lovely Ep and setup,, I did a quick add up of your setup and might of got the price not quite right, your setup is around $2400 if I had to buy it, thats a lot for a 100 amp lithium set up
I did a quick add up of pricing for all the Blue gear and it came out at $1089, but you don't need it all, also the 100ah could be swapped to a 200-300ah and all the Blue gear would still be perfect. That said, $500 for a battery and $80 for the box, charge up from home and you are good to go for a few days. But yes, I get your point it does add up quickly when you start including all the goodies...
@@craigsolaradventures Yes the blue gear and battery is great valve, but $1200 for that 400watt folding panel that is up there
Those must toast alternators quick
You should configure the whole system to limit things sucks that that will not happen
Send it back.
Thanks for doing this review, I was considering buying a 2 hand one of these for $1000. Think I might pass. I am new to lithium and have a 125ah Invicta bmpro in my Jayco. I am having troubles with BMS cut out while trying to get solar charge into it. That bms cuts out and the voltage jumps up to the 14.2v saying 100% full, when it is not. Is there a fix for this problem of the BMS rejecting solar chatter. I tried today discharging the battery to very low, hoping to reset the BMS. The battery accepted solar better ,but eventually shot up to 14.2 volts again. The battery is 3-4years old but I am not the original purchaser. I hope I can get this resolved, there $2k!!
Can you do the 300ah kings review? Please.
Good job man I really like the review
Where can I get one of these thunder panels from
Great review. Would love to see a review and tear down of the 230ah Ecostore LifePO4 from Ecowatt. Claimed to be 230ah, A Grade Eve cells, but price point would suggest something isn’t right
That’s a great setup you got there, nice battery and small for 300 amps
Yeah, the only thing I agree on with this being a failure relates to that loose positive terminal.
At such a high continuous discharge rate of course the battery won’t give you the full 200ah. Tests should be done at 10a discharge and then it will probably give you more than 200ah. This battery did really well.

So what’s the best brand lithium u would recommend?
These are the tests we all want to see on all batteries. The manufacturers should be doing these videos. Not RUclipsrs. Great work! Would you recommend going with a single 200Ah or two 100Ah?
@@fifis101 I’d go a single battery with the capacity you require.
@@craigsolaradventures mmmmm then there's no back up if the single battery dies. I'm realy torn.
Those are rip offs!
Vikram energy devices are expensive because they work with their ecosystem which allows for control and they also high-quality
Does better than 2k DCS battery
A waste of space, maybe t he space is for heat dissapation
cable size limitations into the 50A DCDC terminals easy fix use Cabac PCU25 available is most cable sizes the terminal end can be cut shorter to suit the application
The barcodes are rubbed off the cells on Kings batteries, which means they are made with second hand repurposed EV cells
The cells are most likely BYD 3.2v "100Ah" LFP that failed their QC @66Ah but I maybe wrong.
dam good battery
Someone needs to do a review on "Monster Lithium" their 300ah battery is both "Drop In" and can be wired in Series 24v max, the company is new and there's little anywhere about them or their products ... that Monster Lithium 300ah would get me out of trouble till I could afford something better, like the Renogy 300ah which aret AU$1,749.99 each where the Monsters are about 1k each, the extra would take me 10 weeks to save and my old lead acids are in such a state I cannot run a small chest fridge overnight, to make life harder, I also need a new DC fridge, a decent sized and quality is rarely under 2k new.
Get the Kings 300ah. It's $950
Thanks for the review and thanks to those who commented about their personal experience, the official website has no information on charging voltage parameters, neither on the page or in the manual or whether the battery is a "drop in" for lead acid, which made up my mind, plus at least on person said the brand let him down over an 18month period, Live off-grid, company closed and no other work in the area, desperately poor guy trying not to "Pay Twice" on an extremely limited budget, which I'm guessing this brand would do top me, Sunyee have the 200ah on an extremely tempting special at $759.95
Would love to see a review and breakdown on some of the Renogy 100aH batteries.
I wouldn’t say that terminal was loose enough to cause any issues, it’s also very inconclusive as we couldn’t see the top side as it was moving. I’ve watched it many times zoomed in at .25x speed and at 22:07 the hex nut was 100% moving with the lug which means the entire connection is moving through the casing, which also means perhaps it was over torqued. If it was actually a loose connection it would be moving easier than that. These are still very good value lithium batteries.
Hey, do you happen to have a link to the Thunder? I am on the market for a portable panel and after seeing a few of your tests, it seems pretty consistent!
Where are you fred? I bought one 12 months ago and only used it once and don't seem to have the need for it if your interested. I'm in the Hunter Valley
awesome review and im scared you are going to send me broke with these new batteries lol can you please confirm the height of the battery including terminals as the spec sheet doesnt state if its terminal height or not at 255mm (im praying these wont fit my camper lol)
Hi, I got 253mm to the top of the terminal. I'd say allow another 10-12mm to include, Lug, washer ,spring washer and bolt.
@@craigsolaradventures awesome appreciate it Craig.
How do these types of batteries hold up to being at 100% capacity for extended periods of time? Historically it was my understand that lithium batteries weren't particularly happy being held at 100% or 0% and would accelerate degradation significantly, is that the same for these?
I believe you are thinking of lithium ion batteries and not lithium iron which includes LiFePO4 (LFP). No issues what I'm aware of holding these batteries at 100% charge or 13.5v as per the spec sheet. I'd never leave any battery at 0% charge for long periods. One advantage of the Safebatt Lite 300 is the BMS cuts at 11.6v meaning you have a small amount of energy left in the tank.
How much is that? I’ll google it $ 2768!!!
Correct, plus you can get a 5% discount with the code I provided.
What an absolute rip off... I wish someone would just cut the case off each brand and show us how similar they all are on the inside.
@@shawnduddridge try viewing some of my other videos, they are most certainly not all similar on the inside.
Nice, thorough review Craig, thanks. This really does look like a great battery and distributed by a local Aussie crowd. A bit of a "gotcha" is the limit of 200A discharge - which is not the standard 1C - which means you shouldn't run a 2400W kettle from your inverter....shame. They need to sharpen their pencils quite a lot to make this appeal - especially since one needs to parallel two batteries to run loads of 2400W or more. Are you concerned about the battery crowd suing Stephan Fisher? It certainly makes local battery reviews appear like they have to appease the company and not "tell it as the reviewer sees it" What a crime that is being perpetrated against the community.
I haven't seen any 1C batteries with a true 300ah rating is this compact size and I think most users would run two batteries if running large loads and expecting a reasonable run time. I personally run 600ah in my caravan and think for me that's the minimum. Some may think that's excessive. Oh yeah I saw a little on Stephan, I'd be happy to get one of that suppliers batteries and run some tests on it. My thinking is if you base the test and review on facts and and keep it a no "bullshit" review there wont be too much they can do about it.
@@craigsolaradventures You are probably right but all it takes is a suitable BMS - the cells themselves can do 1C without cracking a sweat.
@@MiniLuv-1984 maybe so, but then the BMS will increase in physical size and as a result so will cable size, I think then the footprint of the battery will increase to fit it all in. The twin 25mm2 would most likely handle a 250-300amp BMS but heat would then need to be considered.
@@craigsolaradventures Yes, absolutely true. Size would be impacted if they didn't redevelop the internals. A 300A BMS is only marginally larger than a 200A BMS but the cables will become unwieldy. However, one can dispense with cable and just use suitably sized and formed copper or aluminium bars internally.
1st LOL Hi Craig- great battery the look of it- thanks for the testing - what would be the max Wattage I could draw of this please - sorry not sure how to calculate that but have appliances that can draw up to 2400 Watt in the caravan hence the question and I am a nob in all of this stuff, so still learning a lot- BTW I am in awe of your setup - it's huge lol
With the 200Amp discharge limit it will be the voltage of the battery x amps.. so if you take the nominal voltage of 12.8 x 200 = 2560watt. That said I'm sure there will be a little extra available as it wont be a hard cut off at 200amp. I'll test and let you know, but voltage drop will be the issue as the amps will rise.
Here is an easy way to estimate the current draw; So, 2400W = volts x amps. Since volts is 12V (worse case when nearly discharged) so 2400 = 12 volts x amps. Re- arrange by dividing both sides by 12V you get 2400/12 = 200 amps. Allow for some losses - say 20%, then you will be drawing 240A from the battery. So the battery needs to be able to sustain 240A. This battery will run a 2400W load for approximately 300AH / 240A or 1.25 hours. Hope this helps.
Just checked the spec on this battery and it is rated for a maximum continuous discharge of 200A, so you shouldn't use this battery for sustained delivery of 2400W
@@MiniLuv-1984 Agree. Put two batteries in parallel and you’ll be good to go with 600ah on board or just under 8kw/h. With the discharge capability that well exceeds the capabilities of a 3000w inverter.
I'd say check the claimed 2400w draw first to confirm its actually that high, we run 230v in Aust and at 10a that will be 2300w. I just checked a 10a kettle in my house and then ran it on my test rig with the Safebatt 300 and it pulled no more than 2200 watt and the voltage didn't drop below 12.5v so that's 176amp approx. So the battery is more than capable of delivering the load required. That said you won't be able to run much else so if you intend running big loads for long periods then I'd suggest two batteries parallel with will basically give you 400amp draw which you wont exceed on a 3000w inverter.
