I'm really looking forward to hearing how that heat pump HWS goes. I guess long term reliability will take a while to assess. I'd like to to get one too. Most people I talk to recommend Sanden.
I've got this little 50 litre HWS hooked up to the solar system, timed to come on during the middle of the day. I run out occasionally, & need a bigger system.
As you know, I've got about a 1/4 the panels you have in my off grid system, and most days the hot water heats up & it the batteries get back to 100. Longest I've gone is 3 days getting back to 100%

Hi Craig, would you be able to make another video about the maintenance of this Midea heat pump please?

While technically it's a heat pump model, I believe that it's proper description is a hybrid model, I didn't think that these things were being sold here in Australia, most heat pump videos coming out of America are of the hybrid type, I personally would not consider a hybrid in Australia, while I believe that a proper heat pump model is slower to bring the water temperature up which is why it's important to pick a model with a larger storage tank but ultimately you avoid the 3kw load on the inverter!
For me, I'm currently running a 3kw inverter and that means that I would have to make sure that nothing else decided to turn on while the hybrid is running, I believe that the heat pump only model only has a 1kw load which still means that I have to be careful with making sure that I don't overload the inverter, although I will soon be upgrading the inverter to a 6kw version and adding another 15kwh battery to the existing 15kwh I already have... Can't wait for that!
Looking forward to seeing a future update on this video and if you actually need to run the tankless gas unit at all...

Hi Craig, I have the same model hot water system, it was installed about 3 weeks ago. I have set the timer to come on at 800 and off at 1600 to make use of the solar panels. I found the system still switches on whenever it wants. Have you experienced that? Regards Alan

Have you set it to Economy mode ? Even then it will (every 7days) heat to 65 deg to ensure no bacteria.

Yes it is set to economy mode. I have cancelled the timer and set it again, still hear it come on sometimes in the middle of the night. I think I will have to put in a warranty claim
