The new Orion is a great upgrade. It's going to be well worth it to the people who need it. Also, your video is an excellent demo of the difference cable size and length makes to DC transmission.
Thanks Craig - good run down. The Orion XS is making a difference on our boat. I don't know how it does it but it gets our alternator working a lot better than it ever has before. Normally we used to see the alternator putting out 15-20 amps and now with the Orion XS set at 50amps output the alternator is up at about 55amps (prob 5amps for the starter battery)
Wow over 500 dollars for 50 amps charging, I could get a wakespeed WS500 for that amount and be able to charge at upto 500 amps and it still connects with victron energy gear.
Is there any chance you could do some 48v testing. I'm looking at upgrading to a 48v system, and it would be good to see the difference between a 12v system and a 48v system
@@craigsolaradventures Bugger, It's un installed yet so I hope I can upgrade. My problem is I have an existing 25 amp dcdc charger in the back of my Dmax. I'm building a camper trailer that I also want to charge its battery when driving.
Exactly what I needed to see..............I wanted to see the output current
was adjustable
This is the best review of the new Orion XS 50a on RUclips. Thanks a bunch

Fantastic video, great illustration of voltage drop and the importance of correctly sizing cables

Victron don’t have a 12v dc to 48v dc charger
Can the amps on the old 30 amp be configured to draw less? Say if I only want to draw 20 amps from an alternator?
No, that’s the advantage of the new model.

can you double down the 50 a ones like they did the 30s?
@@Iamandthatiam yes , Just make sure your alternator can handle it.
