    This model is also approved to be installed inside an engine bay and it will trickle charge your starter battery when your house battery is full! Thanks for watching guys. Let me know what you think of this model in the comments below!

    Thanks so much for posting this review! I installed one of these units about 2 months ago, and have been frustrated by the lack of info online (and most of us know how (un)helpful Renogy support is). I've noticed that no matter my battery's SOC, the charger will only feed amps in either "Boost" or "Bulk" mode. I have a Lithium battery and have the app set to use the default settings for that type. Should I expect it to see a "float" or "absorption" mode once the battery is fully charged? Initially, my battery went into an overcharge protection mode once it was fully charged (it seems the charge controller kept trying to feed amps into the fully charged battery) but I haven't seen it do that lately.

      That’s strange. You might be able to go into user mode and manually change the settings

    I got one months ago, seems to be a bit of lemon ? Even with some cut off at 10 amps, the unit only pulling 24-25 amps from alternator. Then Sometimes it’s 40-45 amp.

    • @Bizill75
      @Bizill75 7 дней назад

      Could it be a "smart alternator" issue? I'm seemingly having only problems with my Jeep Gladiator and its "smart alternator".

    Yeah the 25v is a bit lame on the old version.

    How did you joint the Wires together , Did you use some kind of step down butt connectors or how ?

    • @madetoexplore

      Soldering the wires together and using heat shrink is the best way to connect wiring but you could also use these which work well- amzn.to/45J6Y2U

    I just installed this over the weekend and I cannot get the DC Home app to let me adjust settings even though I manually placed the DC-DC into "user" mode. I have a "smart alternator" that seems to only put out 12.7 volts to my starter battery so the Renogy won't pull amps to charge. Only charged once when I first went live with the system. Does your user adjustable settings work for you if the charger isn't actively charging? I simply have no settings to go in and change. My phone won't readily connect to the charger direct and I have to use the new Renogy One to be like an emissary between my phone and the charger... Not overly happy right now...

    • @Bizill75
      @Bizill75 7 дней назад +1

      Also, the older model you have used an ignition sensing wire whereas the new one doesn't even have one.... in the instructions it says that smart alternators may need to be wired differently, assuming the ignition sensing wire but it doesn't have one! Wish I'd just bought the older and cheaper one...

      As long as the charger is connected to a 12v battery, I can adjust the settings. Have you tested this when the vehicle is moving at higher rpm’s? You may need to be driving on the highway for the charger to start to pull more amps from the alternator

    Hi, great video, I was about to purchase one of these units until I read the manual which says maximum alternator input 75-100A. My van is the Peugeot Boxer the european version of a Ram pro master. It is fitted with a 150A Alternator. Do you know if this new Renogy kit is compatible as its alternator is putting out about 50/60A at idle - trouble is I will not be at idle whilst driving around! This is my first van build and any help would be very much appreciated! Cheers!

    • @madetoexplore
      @madetoexplore  17 дней назад

      My van also has a 150a alternator. This is perfect for you because you can control how much the charger will pull from your alternator through the Renogy app. It can be adjusted from 10-50 amps.

      Thanks for getting back to me - much appreciated. Here in the uk we don’t get that much sunshine so b2b charging is important supplement to solar.
      How did you get on with joining the units wires to those from the starter battery and aux battery as they are very different gauges. Joining by twisting and wrapping with tape as recommended in the booklet accompanying the unit seems a bit of a bodge and asking for trouble in the long run. Do the units input and output positives get hot? Thanks for the discount code - it worked a treat! Cheers

      @@trevorclarke8596 we get barely any solar during the Canadian winter too. I’d recommend using something like this- amzn.to/45J6Y2U and then add some heat shrink on top. For the thinner gauge wire you can strip off extra and double it back on itself before crimping the connector

      @@madetoexploreyes it’s less than ideal and Renogy are on coms but fear it’s going back for new one. I have a battery further away than the dc to dc and that is ok but this charger is under the floor and I have to lay phone on the floor to get it to connect

    • @mschrank1
      @mschrank1 6 дней назад +1

      Mine connects quickly and solidly with the distance between being about 1.5 meters. I think your issue is that you installed the unit under the floor, so the Bluetooth is being blocked by the sheet metal (and whatever other layers may be present). My battery is mounted under the van, and it won't connect to my phone without me getting the phone close to the floor. You might consider using an external monitor connected via the CAN connections on the charge controller

      It actually wasn't that hard using this- amzn.to/45J6Y2U and i'm not having any issues with the smaller gauge. I've linked all the fuses and wire connectors in the description.

    • @mschrank1
      @mschrank1 6 дней назад +2

      I went back and forth on this with Renogy customer support before purchasing. They assured me that the 10 AWG wires were adequate, and I went ahead and purchase one. I only ended up splicing the PV wire. The remaining connections were made using circuit breakers or fuses, so no butt splicing needed on those. I cut the small gauge Renogy wires as short as practicable to minimize voltage drop. It works great. The small wires don't get overly hot and the unit does what it promises.
