Gender: A Wider Lens
Добавлен 30 ноя 2020
In this podcast, now in it's fourth year, therapists Stella O'Malley and Sasha Ayad take a deep dive into the psychological and cultural forces impacting the social changes around "gender." Through interviews with researchers, doctors, therapists, parents, detransitioners, and others, Sasha and Stella's podcast is a "must listen" for anyone trying to navigate the current gender landscape. With their sharp analytical minds and deep compassionate hearts, Stella and Sasha have also become known throughout many parent networks as lighthouses in the midst of some very stormy seas. The Trans Inclusion Controversy That Took Over La Leche League w/Helen Joyce & Marian Tompson | 198
In this special episode, Sasha and Stella pass the mic to honorary guest host, journalist, author, and feminist campaigner, Helen Joyce, who interviews Marian Tompson, in connection with Joyce’s recent article about Marian in The Times, "Why I Quit the Breastfeeding Charity I Founded Over Trans Ideology".
Marian Tompson, along with six other mothers, founded the global breastfeeding support network, La Leche League, in 1956. In November 2024, Tompson resigned from both the organization and its Board of Directors, believing it had strayed from its original mission to support biological mothers in breastfeeding.

Growing Up with a Trans Parent with Emma Thomas, from Children of Transitioners | Episode 169
I never get a really clear idea of either of these women’s primary objections. It’s as if a nerve has been touched and then there’s a casting about for something objective to take issue with. Personally, as someone who has experienced AGP-type desires and conflicts for a lifetime, I find the simplicity of definition: attraction to a self-embodied image - very helpful to explain and make sense of personal desires and conflicts. That paraphilias are already commonly understood in these terms makes Phil’s statements and terminology in one way pretty redundant in my view, but certainly not objectionable, or even psychologically/psychotherapeutically misleading. I really don’t know what their beef is other than an objection to the word sexuality (as in ‘auto heterosexuality’) which I believe to be unnecessary and possibly confusing, as the Irish lady points out, it’s not a sexuality, it’s a paraphilia. However, being introduced to the concept of paraphilia and how it operates, is extremely useful in clarifying what’s going on internally and Helps to put aside unnecessary soul searching and anxiety when trying to understand these desires and conflicts, and so what if it’s all been done before, and Blanchard was the first to codify it all? That doesn’t mean there’s not some function and benefit to writing about it again. Someone may come across Phil’s book before they ever come across the concept of AGP. Once I understood what my desire was, in terms of what’s going on and how it functions, and accepted that this is a lifelong facet of my personality, then I’m in a position to both accept and where necessary restrain such indulgences without shame, repression or any other unhelpful coping mechanisms. Maybe they’re worried that they’ll be out of a job by virtue of the advertising of this simple explanation of autogynophilia! Maybe they want it all to be so nuanced and complicated, that only a professional such as themselves could possibly sort it out.
🎉The key statement from this interview was the comments about the position of the baby who expects nourishment and is receiving no such thing. I imagine there would be a lot of grief and frustration from the baby put in this position. This is exploitation bordering on sadism. Thank you for exposing it.
Love listening intelligent women discussing incredibly important topics ❤ As a sidenote, currently partaking in an intriduction to supporting breastfeeding mothers as a side course to my physical therapy studies. I truly wish to be able to help women and especially mothers in my future career ❤
You know it’s impossible to manipulate someone into or out of a gender identity, and to use manipulative language to get them to figure it out for themselves with guardrails where you don’t want them to go is just that. It’s fine to tell them your opinions so long as you believe they are not insulting or threatening or offensive opinions, share your experiences about yourself, and ask them no leading questions about their opinions and experiences. But look it is going to be what it is going to be. Save yourself a lot of trouble and be humble. Realize you may be more experienced in your life or in life in general but you aren’t necessarily experienced with what they are going through or with their particular gender identity, even if you share the same sex (recognized/categorized) at birth.
“He” use to be a non-binary pronoun and “they/them/their” have always been little known non-binary pronouns used generally to denote ambiguous or unknown genders, as in “the mysterious killer’s (their) car, was found near their gun, which was associated with them when they mistakenly left their bloody glove nearby.”
People have recently “proved” binary sex dies not exist in the very same way that Goethe proved that leaves flowers and fruits don’t exist. It’s not a binary. No one is the platonic ideal of the man woman girl or boy. but it is very profoundly bimodal. Some are a lot further from that platonic ideal than others, either phenotypically, in terms of purely non-biological gender presentation, and in terms of gender psychology, and narrowly sexuality. We need to accept that.
Birth sex assignment is at best a rather unscientific thing, at best a certificate of genital sex conformity. Which, I wonder why anyone needs that. It is a reflection of a social obsession with statistics and categories. Nobody is hurt by not having them, unless you harm yourself by making it important in your own mind. But sone having it and not others says something about those who don’t, so either go all in for everyone or limit it to truly ambiguous cases. It should not be simply up to the parents.

The level of depravity Western societies have fallen into by being too “kind” and “inclusive” is absolutely disturbing. God help us! Emma, thank you for sharing your story and for your advocacy. I will reach out to my MP in Canada to see how I may be able to help them understand the negative impact the trans trend is having on society, and more specifically children. The chest feeding conversation makes me feel physically ill, which I think its a healthy instinctual reaction. As Stella pointed out, it is well established that exposing children to overt sexual content is sexual abuse. Could we classify acting out autogynephilic trans behaviours around children as overt sexual content, and a form of sexual abuse? I Thanks for having this conversation. This talk, and entire channel need more exposure.
Thank you thank you thank you
Man…. This interview is so good… most madness is accepted without question today. wise, balanced people are damned by elites, woke, amoral, tossers who cause immense damage and prance around as the source of light. It often takes a long time to come across “the reasons and coherent explanations”. They are all here. Listen to the lot. Note they mention autistic kids. Also note this started happening the same time as autism rates rose. Then parents are crueler for being sane. He explains how the cultures contribute in some cases. It’s all here. BUY THE BOOK. SHARE THE PROGRAMME.
" These doctors don't know the side effects ". That's the biggest lie in medicine. Doctors and scientists have known since the late 40's what synthetic hormones would do. The first scentist/doctor who created them, I can't remember his name, created synthetic testosterone and estrogen in 1947. After WWII when the concentration camps were discovered and the people in them, doctors were racing to find ways to nourish those people quickly and get weight on them. Synthetic hormones was one of the sciences that was used. That doctor had good intentions, but sadly through the years that changed. Through the 70's and 80's they were used for sports enhancement. Sadly this is where I was exposed to it. I'd hang out in a gym and I was the guy with the gear. I was in that life for 20 years. We did our own research because we knew, a drug that could put 20lbs of muscle mass on you in just 6 short weeks had to have side effects that came along with it. I don't even have a college degree and I could figure that out. I say that because estrogen is no different. Test and estrogen work in sync with each other. So if a man on estrogen starts having drastic feminine results and thinks those results don't come with side effects? They are crazy, they are stupid if not insane. Folks, parents, I'm telling ya. Synthetic hormones ain't no joke. Rather, your son is trying to bulk up with testosterone or your kid is going through this gender stuff. Once that needle goes in, it's the point of no return. Once those synthetic hormones are in the body, they change everything . Things seen and unseen. So when your kid spends to much time on tik tok and comes at you saying they think they are the opposite sex? You better think long and hard and like this guy, you better ask questions.
There is no such thing as a sex change.
Gender dysphoria is symptom, not a diagnosis. I wish people would actually operate from what Dr. Hazeem has stated.
I live in Ireland and a total stranger in twitter told me about GRA in law . Horrified I was/am
Excellent, thank you so much all ! An additional idea as to why young girls (attracted to other girls) will not identify as lesbian - we lesbians are seen as a porn category. And now queer circles include males in the lesbian category. Most off-putting to a young woman discovering her sexuality
Kids need to get offline and gender non conformity being ok needs to be the focus.
The incels are right that the average women, esp white and Asian, has it easier than the average man in modern USA. What they get wrong is thinking they'd get the same ease by pretending to be women. In reality the solution is making things worse for women like the good old days
This is what happens when you start to tolerate the Gays in your culture
The Jack Black movie they talk about at the start is "Shallow Hal". While the film has some funny jokes the overall message, that true beauty is on the inside, is one of the reasons this nonsense has become prominent. There is no difference between our physical bodies and our so-called souls, we are what we are. Im not a believer in conventional morality by whether a person does good or evil has nothing to do with the imaginary qualities of their soul.
This guy uses words than can confuse people that he knows what he’s talking about but this interview was great because it revealed that he has no clue about even the most basic definitions of the concepts he is discussing. Great job
The parents and the children need to set boundaries. Estrangement being used as a first option is just not right. And I am not talking about a SMALL minority of cases where the children do need to get away.
I post this stuff on my feeds, but I often feel like a Casandra shouting truth into the void.
I find it interesting. I have always been utterly terrified at any of these ideas. From a young age even touching women's undergarments was horrifying, though bras are ok. Even don't want to write..."women's underwear". 🙀I remember when I lived in Spain we hung laundry on a line. Dryers were not so much used. I helped with house work and would do it, but she would come back and find all of her undergarments still in the basket because I did not want to touch it. All other aspects of sexuality were normal though.
I disagree with Stella on her term of gender. Glenna is right. What Stella is describing is gender stereotypes not gender. You can still say there are male traits when discussing sex.
Un-com-forta-ble…🙀45:20

What a lovely woman. Happy Birthday.
Heartbreaking.
I knew the Tompson family through the daughters in high school. Great family/people. Marian has not lost a step. She is a national treasure. Great interview. So sad for the La Leche League and woman in general. However, Marian in her intelligence suggests the good result, if there is a good result may be that it forces people to reflect on their values and science. Sasha, Stella, Helen and Marian, keep up your great work. Yet another conflict created by the cult of Transgenderism.
WE MUST DEMAND MANDATORY REHABILITATION,THESE PEOPLE ARE NUTTERS, OVER BEARING AND USE INTIMIDATING AND DOMINATING LABELS TO MAKE PEOPLE CONFORM, J.K.Rowling has death threats and where are the police? arresting some lone christian, thick and useless.
I breastfed my 3 children in the 90’s and early 2000’s and studied really hard to become a leader. I led meetings, did phone and house calls and improved the lives of women and their children. It is beyond insulting what is going on…when will we women have the pride and self confidence to say, yes, we are the experts on this and we deserve a space of our own to do this and help fellow women?!?
So sad this podcast is ending! It’s the best podcast I’ve seen.
❤❤❤ awesome Women!
Unbelievable that even La Leche League was taken over by trans activists. I think it is likely that LLL employees who did that are the product of trans activism in their grad school programs.
I think Philly is explaining the male sexuality to women who don't have the same sexual experience. Autogynephilia seems like an exclusively male sexuality.
💕 Maia! great conversation! so, maybe tangential maybe not, but Maia seems like every kid who was in gifted class with me (including myself). she even has a similar “literalness” that i have (to this day). We were/are all what ppl these days call neurodivergent. I think at one point we’d have all been labeled “high functioning autistic” or “aspergers” (which has fallen out of favor). And this reminds me of either a post or comment I saw on PITT Substack. It was the mother of a gifted boy who’d transitioned WITH HIS ENTIRE GIFTED CLASS and I think this is something that needs study, discussion, and recognition b/c parents of these kids are heartbroken and bewildered-and the kids will be dealing with the fallout for the rest of their lives. Just throwing all that into the mix: gifted/spectrumy/high-functioning kids are seriously in danger of this.
Skin on skin at birth creates the bonding, so breast feeding is as much a part of the babys life.
I just discovered this channel. I will have all the past podcasts to watch. Looking forward to what these 2 ladies do in the future.
66 yr old retired RN, IBCLC - I gave up my certification a few years ago - so many of the conferences were “inclusion” orientation I couldn’t deal with it anymore ! Only biological women can breastfeed and I have always said that this chestfeeding epidemic was anti woman !
I'm number 301 on the likes? How is that possible? Anyway, I'm a ruminating dad who has been estranged or alienated for 4 years. The numbers of facets affecting this situation are overwhelming to me. I'm a pretty smart and progressive dad, but I'm also over 60, which makes me "one of those" to my 19 year old daughter. Her LGBTQ friends and influence, changing her name, her ADHD, conflicting with my 40 years of sobriety. My divorce, when my kid was one, with her now newer therapist mom, who fully supports her going no contact. The hill seems almost unclimbable. The one thing I have is that my daughter and I were so close until she was about 12 or 13. I'm going to do the things recommended, but the need to be authentic is huge for me. I'm also a recovering New Yorker. Yikes, right? Anyway, this was a really nice discussion. I'm glad to have seen this, and feel a little more understood. Wish me luck...Pete
Regarding the 7 years element. I wonder... "The average lifespan of all cells in the human body is about 7 years, but this is because some cells are extremely durable, while other cells are renewed every few days to few weeks"
He makes a lot of sense but should talk to trans widows. In the early groups we soon realised that as they age, fetishistic crossdressers eventually start desiring a sex change.
Marian, I applaud your efforts to keep the integrity of LLLI. I feel such gratitude for the pioneering effort of the 7 founders. I nursed all four of my children, I became a leader while #2 was an infant. My 3 daughters nursed their babies. I couldn't convince my daughter-in-law to nurse, what a shame. I hope to pass my wisdom to my grandchildren to breastfeed their children. This nonsense has to stop. Women give birth, women breastfeed, that's it.
A shrink with these rings is a trans !
Does not reply about the gay trans of Blanchard.
I was a LLL leader for 21 years. It was such an honor to help moms and babies in that way. I teared up through this whole interview- to see her speak again now! Marion Thompson was and is such an inspiration to me. I’m sad at how the organization has lost its footing.
That's really insane... who ever heard of a breast feeding family? It's nonsense.... 😢
Sounds like the baby formula makers did a good job of convincing idiot doctors their product was better than what women have been produced since before we were even human ffs. Listening to this is insane. I remember when I had my first daughter there was a real movement starting to promote breastfeeding in the hospitals and mothers groups but even in 2007 it hadn’t caught on in the community. Many older ladies including my partners mum thought I was crazy. Get this his mum said, with a sour look on her face “ I couldn’t imaging having a baby latched onto my boobs”. Not surprisingly we are not close.
A woman is someone who works mentaly from the outside to the inside ! A man is the opposite. Theory of my shrink number 2.
