    - - -
In this episode, Stella & Sasha sit down with Vanessa Sivadge, a former pediatric nurse at Texas Children's Hospital, who courageously exposed the illegal use of federally funded insurance programs to cover sex hormones and transgender treatments for minors. Initially coming forward anonymously as a whistleblower, Vanessa believed her concerns would incite meaningful change, only to face repercussions from the government. After disclosing the hospital’s concealed practices, she was met with an unexpected visit from FBI agents-an act she interprets as intimidation.
Vanessa recounts her journey, reflecting on her decision to publicly come forward in June 2024. She shares how she faced almost immediate backlash, being placed under investigation, put on leave, and ultimately terminated, prompting her to pursue legal action for wrongful termination.
This conversation examines the evolving 'groupthink' culture within hospitals, exacerbated by the pandemic, which has discouraged open dialogue and questioning among medical professionals. Vanessa’s story underscores the complexities of healthcare practices, specifically surrounding gender-affirming care, the ethical implications of medical documentation, and the critical importance of safeguarding patient welfare. It also emphasizes the value of whistleblowers as empowering and necessary for fostering accountability and promoting a culture of transparency.
Drawing from her experiences, Vanessa offers up three essential strategies for individuals contemplating speaking out about their concerns.

Well, I think pointing out the multiple legal protections that the medical profession is prepared to break in pursuit of this ideology is quite important.
      1. They ignored
      the Texas legal ban,
      2. They falsified medical insurance claims (embezzlement)
      3. They used the FBI to threaten her with unwarranted claims (threatening with menace),
      4. They ignored legal protections created to protect religious persecution.
      Layer upon layer of criminality.

I know this because I have relatives who were sent to Siberia. Only one of them survived. Whatever you think of the FBI knocking on her door, they didn't arrest her. They questioned her. Police question people too. The FBI are just the federal police. If you think police questioning is fascist, then no crimes would ever be solved. She didn't need to speak to them. It was eye-opening to learn about the tactics that a respected hospital is willing to adopt in order to provide treatment that is illegal. Illegal medical practices have always existed, and society has often tolerated them when they aligned with widely shared ethical judgments-illegal abortions are a prime example. However, what sets the case of “gender-affirming care” apart is that we’re not dealing with some obscure private clinic, but rather with a major, leading hospital. Gender ideology has gripped some of the most influential institutions, and that grip is strong enough to push them to defy the law.
While I certainly see the dangers in a large hospital breaking the law on such a significant scale and covering its tracks, what concerns me even more is how we can persuade these institutions and their supporters that they are mistaken in believing this treatment is beneficial. A religious argument, in this case, would be entirely unhelpful. Most people who support “gender-affirming care” are secular and liberal, and they view criticism of these treatments as stemming from a conservative worldview-one that would also oppose, for example, same-sex marriage. This is why someone like Vanessa, despite her courage and the valuable evidence she brings from the clinic, is unlikely to sway those who genuinely believe they are doing the right thing for these children and adolescents.

There is a lot going on in this segment. I'm not clear what the whistle blowing was. If the dr says, from here on out in my notes I will refer to the preferred gender. The dr stipulates right there that they know the biological gender is conflicted. Does this mean all paperwork was then changed from bio to preferred? If in fact a doctor was misrepresenting the bio-sex and the diagnosis to get certain medical care that should be investigated. I have a lot of issues with so much of what was said though. I found the FBI video. It is nothing but introductions and a request to sit down. There is no evidence of anything else. Sure it is unsettling, but just as the guest stated there are laws in place to protect, especially HIPAA violations. If she was "investigating" drs notes and patient files without authority she violated her position especially with writing articles about any patients. If the families find any correlations to her speaking out they could and should be seeking litigation against the hospital. This seems like a lot of issues all pushed under a gender care umbrella. I don't disagree that the gender care is extremely questionable. That too is a massive issue. This particular segment really needs further hashing out.

Be religious, have your relationship with god, let it guide you, great, but it doesn't work as a way to fight against another ideology that cannot be disproven. As an atheist myself who is passionate about this issue, it is really disappointing to see many fellow atheists so damn triggered by her beliefs.
What’s more important, stopping the wholesale mutilation of confused kids, or bitching that her faith played a part in her decision to speak up?
It will take a complete mutiny, made up of people from all walks of life to overcome this outrageous farce being perpetrated on our kids. Put your hatred of religion aside for the sake of children FFS.

I agree with her on all the hospital malpractice and whistle blowing related to that. The FBI certainly should not be used for intimidation. However, if this is the man outside the PA abortion clinic "praying" he admitted to shoving a 72 year old clinic escort. He was acquitted of assault charges but he admit she shoved her. He wasn't "just praying."
No one has the right to harass or assault people who have different beliefs than yours. Goes both ways. The escort was doing a job, Houck's only reason to be there was confrontation, not silent prayer. The only reason that got DOJ attention is because the law in question was federal not local. I'm also wondering why with an admission of guilt that he did shove the escort that he was let off.

When you encounter something shocking at a prestigious institution in healthcare, as a new nurse, the first year you are stunned by the shock. Then, the second year you start coming to your senses and realize that this is indeed what/how healthcare is practiced at this place. At the start of the third year you duck and make the choice of keeping your patients safe, whatever it takes.

Ms. Sivadge's religious views seem to have raised eyebrows in the comments, but they are not the point. She is quite clear that the focus of her objections were that the practices where she worked were not based on the normal ethical expectations of a medical institution, and a recognition of biological reality. I don't know which flavour of Christianity Ms. Sivadge follows, but it seems likely that she is more like Kenneth Miller than Ken Ham.
To the point about the FBI 'persecution', it is common to perceive such organisations as benevolent when they are targeting people you don't like, but to think that they have somehow changed when they come after you. Actually they haven't.
There is also a principle which seems to have fallen out of favour in recent times; people can be right about some things, and wrong about others.

As to her story about the Christian dad who was taken away for “only” praying in front of an “abortion clinic”, people can pray wherever and whenever they want, but doing it in an ostentatious way is not about someone’s personal faith, it’s a message. The message is one that is embraced by many violent extremists so I’m not surprised law enforcement got involved. It’s not about faith, faith is private, it’s about overtly political actions.

I disagree with people protesting abortion clinics but it should be the local cops moving them on, not FBI breaking their doors down. It's legal to oppose abortion. Depending on locality it may or may not be legal to shout at people trying to access abortion. Personally I think they should not be allowed to protest within X metres of the clinic doors but that's just my opinion. It's also two tier policing. Imagine if someone was protesting outside a gender clinic screaming at the kids going in vs what happens when people try to hold a peaceful demonstration in a public square about this issue and the TRAs threaten to kill them, actually assault women, drown them out with noise pollution and the police do nothing.

Great conversation. My only minor critique is that I would like Sasha and Stella to do more to steer the conversation away from the religious angle. To be fair, they did do that to some extent in this conversation, but too much emphasis on the "faith-based" motivation gives the other side ammunition. It's enough that they (Texas Children's) were breaking the law ... she reported it ... and they punished her for it.

Texas Children’s Hospital also appears to have broken employment law in terms of her religious objections. So her faith is actually a really important part of her story and her lawsuit.

thank you... though thinking that 'fighting 'terrorists'' is synonymous with 'good guys' is part of the problem, terrorism was a western creation from so many angles, look into the bombing of the king david hotel, into the secret history of al queda, or al CIAda. generally speaking, the FBI have not been the good guys for a very long time, if ever...some fall victim to more cognitively deficient propaganda than others... but thank you for understanding this gender reassignment fallacy...

A problematic guest from the start, in my opinion, because she uses her faith to justify her position on gender: I found myself wondering whether she even believes in evolution?
However, I was open minded and listened carefully to what she had to say: after all, she has the experience of having worked in the hospital - I do not.
I was a bit sceptical that the FBI were threatening her when they came to her door - maybe they were but maybe they were genuinely concerned for her safety? Still listening open minded but sceptical, at this point.
But when she says the FBI have been weaponised to come after people of faith I had to stop the video and write this comment because she has revealed herself as part of a right wing conspiracy theory typically found in American Evangelical organisations and amongst Christian Nationalists and MAGA's.
None of this discredits her story, of course, but it would have been more powerful had it not been driven by Christian conspiracy persecution complex.

@jcimsn8464 no they are spot on. Christians think the US government is so against them, they teach that to their kids... despite the fact that so many members of the government are Christian.... it's silly. They LOVE being persecuted or at least pretending to be. It's a huge part of their "beliefs" ever heard one say "as Christians, the world may persecute us, but we must suffer for Christ" etc so yeah this ladies religious beliefs do kind of make her sound less genuine since it's a lot of what she says is just Christian script. Too bad because we do need more whistle blowers.

@@uwaviatorprobably because it leaves a bad taste in your mouth to realize someone only spoke out about something because of their religious beliefs instead of them arriving at the conclusion on their own. When you go to church, they TELL you what to think, when you're not a part of a religion, you think for yourself. That's the difference. So it's hard to connect with people like her since it's like talking to a Christian script or in our case, listening to one.
