Bill's knowledge of The New Testament is sad. He says that none of the Apostles knew Jesus? One requirement of an Apostle was that he have known Christ, have had some person to person experience of him. John was particularly close to Jesus. Paul doesn't write much about the cardinal doctrines because that isn't the purpose of the Epistles. There can't be any doubt that Paul believed all of the cardinal doctrines.
I love that these 2 men can sit down and have this conversation! It’s really to Bill’s credit. I disagree with him on almost everything, but I respect him. Listening to these 2 both agree and disagree gives me hope that we can still find common ground in this country
I can't respect him because he CAN'T *respect* that others believe differently or accept when someone knows more or something he doesn't. He ATTACKS folks for being religious. He doesn't leave it at just personally not believing in God. Candace Owens & Megyn Kelly both categorically, factually proved him absolutely wrong on assertions he made about J6, to the point that MK emphatically said, "STOP MAKING ME HAVE TO DEFEND TRUMP!!!" Did he listen, research & adjust his thinking accordingly with new information? NOPE! He continues parroting patently false lies. Being able to talk to people who believe differently is only valuable if both parties actually LISTEN. Bill CANNOT listen if it involves God, kids or Trump.

I went to University in Ontario, and I have such hatred for the system. A “professor” reading off a PowerPoint, with no extra info, encouraged me to stay at home and just read the damn PowerPoints. Good on you Peterson. Love from Ontario
I have a similar experience here in Québec. Most of the teachers either go on rants about their political opinions out of nowhere. Those that don't do like you said, they just read off the Powerpoint. I remember arriving in class last semester, and the teacher was staring at her laptop's screen, reading the powerpoint. 0 interactions with the students. I left after 1h30min and never came back. Never opened my books either, I still got 95% in the finals. That shouldn't be possible. I pay for an education, yet I just proved that the class thought me absolutely nothing? It pisses me off to a very high degree
I had a Pathology prof who 'taught' this way. I found it maddening. I would have to take time out of each week at home and actually learn what I should have learned in class. It was such a waste of everyone's time. As you've said, just give me the pp info and I'll skip the presentation.
I love how Peterson talks about William Wilberforce almost singlehandedly ended slavery in England, peacefully, and Bill Maher has no idea who Wilberforce was.
I was more surprised Bill didn’t know what hypergamy was. That term is thrown around every day in the dating sphere. Bill’s age is starting to show a little bit when it comes to knowledge of newer topics as well. I feel like Bill is clearly a conservative leaning person these days, but doesn’t want to officially say it.
Synagogues are political not just religious institutions they need to integrate and separate church and state. Calling themselves an ethnic group is far from honest instead of a religious group like everyone else. Are they tribal then? I thought tribalism and cults are considered bad wrong illegal for everyone else. These federations charities need to be audited globally.
@WesternPatriot-v8m and Catholic Church don't ??? They priests are above the law. Catholic church can do whatever they want and too bad if you don't like it. So... also point your finger at them.
I also found that comment especially profound. When he said that, I immediately thought of how the financial planning/brokerage industries have started to move more towards a percentage of assets managed incentive model instead of a transactional sales model. I wonder if the same concept could be applied to medicine: where one pays a PCP an annual fee to manage prevention on a continual basis and perhaps there could even be "incentive pay" if they are able to improve a certain set of metrics from year to year. I think the problem with this idea is that these types of services would be quite time intensive. Therefore, the supply would be absorbed by the rich, and the lower income classes would be finding it harder and harder to even find a PCP to get an annual physical. The intricacies of healthcare economics continue to boggle my mind to the extent that I still do not feel that I have a strong opinion of what would be best. The stronger negotiating power of a single-payer system makes me ever so slightly lean towards that being a better system than we currently have. I do understand that it would create shortages and reduce innovation, and I certainly do not want to downplay those adverse effects. However, I think a lot of our innovation is geared towards pharmaceuticals, which IMHO are not financially incentivized to actually "cure" diseases (but rather to merely manage them). And it's also geared a lot to first-world, elective bullshit like Viagra and Ozempic (where the wealthy acquire all of it to lose weight instead of the poor for diabetes management). So I'm not sure that losing innovation is really as much of a con to society as a whole as some would make it out to be. The taxes would be higher, but I believe it's likely that the overall healthcare cost reduction to society would be larger than the additional taxes, thus a net benefit. But as I stated before, I'm no expert, and it's an unbelievably complicated issue. I just hope we can figure out *something* better soon.
The other part of that I always think of is there is no money in solving health issues. In theory, you are working yourself out of a job as a doctor. In practice, maybe you could get an appointment within a week as a patient when you’re sick.
As someone who works in preventative medicine, he is very correct. Kinda sad to see insurances pay for all sorts of treatments, just not the best options (which are also fairly cheap)

There is very little Bill and I would agree on politically or morally, but I do respect him to at least be willing to hear other sides. Something I did find out about Bill by listening to this video, and I find it rather strange, for a self proclaimed atheist he sure knows a lot about the Bible. He even appears to like a lot of the Bible and what it represents, but in the next breath he wants to end everything religious. I do think he is authentic, but I'd like to know more about how he comes to those conclusions.
Listening to Jordan Peterson is inspiring. He always leaves me thinking, often to his favor. Very hard not to be persuaded by such a display of knowledge, logic and philosophy. I got closer to Christ once I understood the ideas within the Bible, and Jordan Peterson explained them to me so perfectly, so logically, that I became a Christian.
What Bill said about the New Testament was ludicrously wrong. The Paul stuff. Holy wow. Incorrect on basic toddler levels. How does someone of his level get facts so insanely wrong.
And yet, the same man your talking about supports some of the most ungodly acts being committed by a foreign country, all because some misguided idea that we “have to support them no matter what” As an actual Christian, I don’t support SIN. No matter who does it. Nor do I idol worship a country and tell myself I’m not allowed to criticize them.
I usually criticize Peterson for talking too much on his podcasts rather than allowing his guest to do most of the talking but Maher is on a whole other level. Man he loves the sound of his own voice.
I was thinking exactly the same thing . Bill was as well do a one man show where he just sits there and gets drunk and spouts what ever is on his mind .

I would love to ask him, "what's one good thing that Trump did?" Almost every Trump-hater I've asked that to will insist that literally 100% of everything Trump ever did was evil, which just goes to show they've lost all sense of objective rationality.
I mostly enjoyed this conversation, but I do find that Bill cuts Jordan off a lot before he's finished his sentence, and it's usually with a joke which then pulls the conversation in a different direction. This happened often enough that it became noticible and frustrating. Whether you agree or disagree with someone's opinion, it's still courtesy to let them finish speaking before you interject.

We hand pick our spouses in the modern era. They should be the easiest people in the world to love, if we understand what love is.
To be fair, Bill Maher is a great sport too. They are both well-versed in debate. One of the greatest characteristics of both is that they will find every common ground they share and reaffirm it so they can find the source of disagreement. Bad debaters or people who argue in bad faith, will just keep moving the goal post and never admit they agree with you on anything even when it has become obvious that they do.

Bill made the same comments about religion about 4,000 times at this point. He doesn't seem very smart if he can't bring up new points. The fact that he can't get past his tired, juvenile many times debunked objections to faith also makes him look less than intelligent. This format really shows off his cognitive weaknesses.
@@sahh9464lol there is nothing to “debunk”, it debunks itself. Religion is based on faith, that is all. The Bible is an amazing book full of fascinating stories, some based on real experiences with supernatural elements thrown in, written by men. Saying God is real because the Bible says so is circular reasoning. Even Peterson couldnt possibly deny this, if he considers himself any kind of scholar. Men have written amazing books and created amazing things throughout history - men and women, through sweat and blood. I am free to have faith that “fairies” (insert “anything” here) are real and have a whole philosophical argument about it, but absent empirical evidence, you must accept it is all based purely on faith. It might be great for YOU in your personal life and you should be free to believe and practice that as long as you dont hurt others, but it has NO place in the rules of society/the public at large.
Its pretty baseless. Maher is in his late stage capitalism phase. He has nothing of value to say, so he has to monetize clicks and promote his narcissism.
Yes, I would pray to have the patience of Dr. Peterson. Look a how effective he was at getting his point across. He could have rightfully so stopped Bill in his tracks and tell him how wrong he was, but by listening intently and just offering a opposing view, he actually got Bill to listen. I heard of him two years ago. And I was drawn to him initially. About four videos in what I discovered was that I’m more interested in his guests than I am him, because he doesn’t really say anything profound or useful imo. But he does that by saying very simple things but with a rather large vocabulary, that needs not to be said with such words. But then he started talking to people who are in my field and he just got so many things wrong, but they were rather polite about it and either chose not to correct him or corrected politely. After that I unsubscribed. Till this day I really don’t get the appeal in someone who makes the simple convoluted, when the truly smart ones tend to simplify the complex.

4:56 "It's hard to monetize preventative strategies." In one sentence, Peterson explained so much. You can spend a day unpacking that statement.
Wow I skipped EXACTLY to him saying that as I was reading this.
4:52
The other part of that I always think of is there is no money in solving health issues. In theory, you are working yourself out of a job as a doctor. In practice, maybe you could get an appointment within a week as a patient when you’re sick.

Two of my favorite people in a civil unscripted conversation. This is what all of America needs. Conversation without hateful ignorant debates.
Jordan Peterson is one of the most amazing people that I have ever had the privilege of learning from. He makes complicated information more digestible. I'm always learning new things from him about subjects I thought I knew a lot about already.
Very true.
He has some good ideas some bad ideas.

"…if you have any sense[as a therapist], you realize that you have enough trouble with your own destiny to not bother imposing your viewpoint, moral or otherwise…”
“…there’s a fair bit of fluidity in human sexuality, and people have to come to terms with that.”
“It’s not a disease…so it doesn’t need a ‘cure’”
---Sounds good, but then….
“Many legislatures around the world now have banned so-called ‘conversion therapy’, and to me this has been a catastrophe.”
---So it’s a “catastrophe” that people want to outlaw therapists from imposing their worldview on others by convincing their clients they have a disease and need a cure?
Poor Bill. I have been married 50 years and my wife and I make new memories everyday. We don't live off 2 years of happiness like he said. Bill is very immature and I don't think he will ever grow up. So be it, if he's happy. But my wife and I are happy, everyday. Except when we listen to lying politicians. Which is way too often lately.
Bill's not happy.
So immature about love & relationships, religion too, but he’s likable sometimes
@@kellibuzzard9431 I agree.
@@Paintit33 Yeah he is likeable. Like the stoners you met in college. But most of what he does is walk a fine line between left and right so he can make a shit ton of money. That's what he's really good at.
I can tell you as unmarried at my age. It's not a win. People gaslight themselves. It's complicated, but something happened to marriage and people's ability to manage them.
I could listen to these two talk all day. Love the respectful disagreement and the meeting in the middle when they do. Calm, rational conversation.
Rational is a bit of a stretch. Bill, like many chronic weed smokers, suffer frim short term memory loss disorder.
@@keithwilliams8342yeah and he is just so closed minded to hearing the other side. Anytime someone attempts to talk about Trump, he does the equivalent of putting his hands over his ears yelling I can’t hear you I can’t hear you
Fascinating show! Finally something worthy to watch fully immersed in 1x and not speeding up to 3x as to most of other podcasts. Every interaction and movement of lips and hands was powerful in this video.
Watching Bill Maher talk with Jordan Peterson reaffirms why I both admire Jordan and disdain Bill at the same time.
Cause you're dumb?
I've read ALL of Jordan Peterson's books - cannot wait to read the new one ! Thank you for your dedication Dr. Peterson !
This was a good conversation. I like the way that Bill and Jordan play off each other, its like Bill is the devil on your shoulder and Jordan is the angel having an argument
Much love from 🇨🇦 Jordan!!!!! We love you!!!
I love how hard Bill is trying to get JP to laugh and he just boldly states back at him. Hahaha love it
I was definitely laughing at Bill's jokes, regardless. Bill is a true comedian. ❤
It’s hard to laugh when you’re ideology is being mocked 😂😂😂
I think Jordan really thinks that laughing is "understood." I think he actually did find humor in the jokes, but he knows that Bill knows that he inherently understands the jokes and would find them funny. So why waste the time laughing when there are pressing issues to discuss?
In all honesty the timing on the jokes was pretty bad, but I’m no comedian 😂
@@PsychicRaven This falsehood of Bill being a comedian was unravelled when he had Bill Burr on. He was stripped bare of any such consideration.
Kudos to Jordan Peterson for not getting into a fight with Bill Maher and for telling him what he truly thought.

Maher has much nice lounge chairs tho
Nice when people with different points of view can have a good natured conversation about those points of view. That's how I like to remember the world, before [anti] social media.
Yeah, but as I just commented. That same media algorithm got me here in 2 hours. Social media is just a tool, so I still think it's important to not 'throwing the baby out with the bathwater'.
Agreed. But there still is the irony/hypocrisy of the left being good ???? Him constantly being ignorant... being a sanity point.... what even is the far right' common sense at this point ??? This guy helps idiocracy.
when issues have no direct effect on you, it should be easy to have a good natured conversation over disagreements, especially in person.
Nah, before that you just weren't able to witness the fights that would happen. With social media we are just able to see what everyone is doing all the time. Before that it was just that crazy guy at the bar who would start fights with people who disagreed with him. You just wouldn't hear about it.
Social media is great if you are a respectful person who likes honest conversation and is an emotionally balanced individual. Unfortunately social media draws out all the crazy people too.
I am actually much more likely to lash out during a real life conversation than one on social media. On social media I am able to collect myself and calm down before responding to someone. I am horrible at that in real life. I once got into a very dumb argument with my brother and ended up throwing something at him. That couldn't have happened on social media.
you think these people have different points of view?
Proud to be that 1 percent you spoke of towards the end
It's beautiful how much Jordan Peterson brings out the best in Bill Maher 💯
He does the same with Piers Morgan, but Piers swings back down much faster & harder.
@@Dukkha-Bhavana The difference is that Peterson educates Maher.

If you really have this thought you need to listen to The Shawn Ryan Podcast specifically with Mike Benz. It will change your perspective on government as a whole as well as the entire world and what NATO is trying to do to influence elections and how people think.
I'm grateful for Jordan Peterson for so many reasons - for one, he is a great humanitarian and intellectual giant. He is also honest and has probably helped more people then anyone else I can currently think of. Salute Sir.

Man! What a great talk! It’s so nice to hear two intelligent people who have significant differences speak so respectfully to one another and discuss important topics! Well done Bill & Jordan!
I love the Fonz, but give me more guests like Peterson. It's such a great lesson in critical thinking and true debate.
It’s good to have a mashup of different guests. I love the ones who made you think, Make me laugh, teach me something. But I also love Tommy Lee’s interview
He interviewed the Fonz?!
And Tommy Lee?
Wow...
I wonder...was he insufferable in both?
I remember going to college in the 90's Peterson is spot on many of the courses were lectures 100+ students and the professor just talked. Others especially the ones with smaller numbers of students were so boring it was hard to stay awake. I'm thinking a back he's right probably 10% of the courses were good quality
Let Jordon Peterson talk Bill. You are completely dominating this discussion!!!
Bill is anti western American values
Yes. He can go on a rant when it's something he's got a thing about. As well as being hard on the guest, it can backfire if the guest has a deeper knowledge of the subject than Bill..

A brilliant performance from Peterson. This format was able to highlight his strengths in my opinion. Pay attention to the subject discussed and when Bill takes a sip. Bill has his to hand to his chin and is really listening to Peterson and seems willing to absorb his points. I miss people talking like this. Two people from different sides of a topical coin, but not dismissing one another or hating on each other. Just the pleasure of exchanging perspectives and pursuing the conversation with curious interest.

I have immense respect for both of these guys. Good discussion here.
I was a big fan of Jordan Peterson back in the beginning of his rise. Then he kinda got a little too out there for me and I'm really just not a big fan of him anymore. HOWEVER, this format of "hanging out" with someone and talking like normal people does make him look a lot like the guy I remember. I very much enjoyed this one and maybe found a little soft spot in my heart for Jordan again.
Yeah, he went overboard recently for me
I heard of him two years ago.
Hes an entertainer, of sorts.
He's always sick.
