My 11 year old daughter has always been a tomboy but last year some of the kids at her school started to convince her she was trans. She had joined an after school "art club" that met once a week, which turned out to be an LGBTQ club. Her last day of 6th grade I got a text that said, "I have to tell you something. I'm trans." After talking with her, she basically just said that she doesn't have any issues with being a girl but she likes boys clothing and has a lot of boy interests. I was like duh, we raised you so you didn't have any gender stereotypical limitations. Things like Nerf guns, Legos, Star Wars, Spider Man, skateboards and whatever else peaked her interest were always welcomed and I certainly wasn't going to force her to wear a dress for any occasion because I can't stand formal wear. We had to go to a wedding last year and I bought us matching Tux-shirto T-shirts. The whole trans thing seemed to have died off over summer break but a few days into 7th grade, I noticed a pink and blue bracelet and trans flag that her friend drew on her arm and I just about lost my 💩. I wrote her a letter that brought up a lot of concerns. I told her she needed a break from all that and that until she decelops on her own and is able to better understand herself, there was no reason to be a walking billboard for the pride flags and jewelry. When I gave it to her I said that I didn't want to have any angry conversations but the letter wasn't all I wanted to say and that we should talk about all of this sometime soon. In the letter I mentioned that transgenderism is like the secret door in the movie Coraline. They'll tell you that your family doesn't understand you the way they do, so they are your new family now and the hormones, medications and surgeries are the buttons for eyes. It's been 2 weeks since then and from what I can tell everything stopped. I'm not in a hurry to have that more in depth conversation too close to ripping off the bandaid but I don't think she really wanted to identify as trans in the first place. She sounded upset and apologetic when she first told me in person, as if she didn't know how it happened, similar to the way someone might break the news of an unwanted pregnancy. Since then we picked up a bunch of cargo pants and kickass t-shirts for school. She's always appreciated the practicality of the pockets from boy's pants. I'm a proud father of an awesome daughter. I don't care if she winds up staying a tomboy or falls in love with another girl one day but I'll do everything in my power to make sure she stays healthy and functional for whatever path life naturally brings her along.

My spouse who is an amazing teacher in an alternative learning high school, after a 30 year career that she loved.... retired because she couldn't deal with nor further support the gender/trans ideology. It's truly sad that teachers of her caliber decide to leave because of the turmoil. These ideologies have similarly destroyed the sense of belonging within our LGB community circles.
It is such a sad thing that the kids lose the teachers who can protect them from this madness. I understand however that these teachers can't do it anymore. But the bad teachers are staying. That makes the problems worse.
One of the worst things about this is that once your kids have been exposed to this stuff, part of the indoctrination is that parent's views are "out of date", thus inoculating them from the influence of their own family. There is a real concerted effort to get between children and parents, making parents the enemy and preventing parents from knowing about what is being said in school and about changes in their child's identity.
It seems this is at the core of this madness. Indoctrinating the kids into this culty way of thinking and keeping it secret from the parents is a crime
The humming, so immature, disrespectful and cult-like and frankly creepy. Why can't all voices be heard and digested? As for the chant, how horrific. The misogyny of it all is so ironic.
the lack of grades can confuse the kids if they are on the spectrum. they many not know what the expectations are. it is harder for them to connect what they've done to what was expected. the goals aren't clear to them and it is not clear to them if they have reached them. it can lead to utter confusion at a basic level. It also can deprive them of the sense of accomplishment, where there is a clear goal and they can try and try until they accomplish it. Exactly. They need the structure.

The focus should NOT be on the grade. The focus should be on the Learning. There is a difference. Focusing on the learning helps a child grow. But performance should be measured. At least periodically, if only to help the outliers needing addictional or different learning experiences to promote their growth. Test results aren’t a competition. They are a measure.

Thought-stopping techniques need to be called out as such when they happen, the whole time they happen, in the spaces they happen. Same with name-calling (also a form of thought-stopping).
As a former teacher, the #1 reason for getting rid of letter grades was because the parents pitched a fit when they didn’t get the grade they wanted their kid to have. Their kid’s “emotional well-being” was more important than an “arbitrary” grade that “didn’t mean anything”, and parents kept opting out of standardized testing. The teachers that didn’t believe that (who actually had expectations and a clear “you’ve passed or you haven’t”) had their lives made a living he** so they left long ago. So what we’re seeing is the downstream of YEARS of parents and former schoolchildren saying loud and clear that this is what they wanted. Now we’re finding out it doesn’t work.

These kind of things really scare me that they can reach peoe who are educated and intelligent! And that through her work.
I think your podcast about gender is so important and nuanced and compassionate. However, I think the medical benefits and psychological costs of masking are a very different topic. I understand that Maud talked about it because it was related to her experience pushing back on school policies she didn't agree with, but I wonder if you two appear to be agreeing with her ideas about masking since you didn't comment on it. Personally, I think Maud's criticism of a teacher wearing a shield and mask is unrelated to your podcast, and I don't agree with her take on it. This teacher might not have the option to work somewhere else and might be at high risk for dying from Covid or live with elderly people who are at high risk if she were infected. Masking children is a whole other issue with complexities and not simply another example of a "woke Left." The science was unfolding at the time during the pandemic. A lot of people did die from Covid. I still work with people who wear masks because they are at high risk of death from infection. I've been noticing very thoughtful podcasts about gender issues (not just yours) tossing in all kinds of other issues without subjecting them to the same intellectual rigor that is given to the topic of gender issues. This might detract from reaching the wider audience that would benefit from the analysis of gender issues. When I hear someone dismiss all masking, I think "kook" and am likely to stop listening. (Worse, some gender critical podcasts (not yours) are expressing political views on the American election that I and most of the left don't share, strongly undermining my trust in their intellectual capacity and morals.) Many of the other tangential issues about schools Maud discussed I found interesting, but the masking issue really touches people who have lost loved ones to Covid and divides people. To reach a wider audience with your nuanced discussion of gender issues, I think it's best to keep focused on just that.
That humming and chanting...how weird and disturbing. Reminds me of all the Evergreen University footage. The students there also chantet some of these phrases. I wonder what goes through the minds of the "hummers" when they watch a video of themselves chanting and humming. Are they able to (with some distance from the event itself) see how weird and cultish it seems?
Really hate to think that the children of today who never get truly graded on their work ethic and abilities are going to be our future leaders and caretakers of their elders. Put out crap you get more of it. Let's focus on everything but education in our schools and this is what you get. I hope soon the tide will change. The people in the work force now see entitled attitudes in new hires...just wait till these children get out of school if it doesn't change
I come here for hopefully good discussion on the stated subject -- the absurdities of the "Gender movement" and what it is doing through it's capture of so many systems. I also believe in supporting the weak, the poor, and disadvantaged. I am in an uncomfortable predicament. Resistance to "gender ideology" is associated with right-wing politics and religious fundamentalism. I am neither. But in this battle I often see attacks on policies and groups working to help the disadvantaged masquerading as part of the "desist" movement. Perhaps If I'd continued with this video to the end there might have been something of value. But I just couldn't. The guest lost me in the beginning with her statements and denigrations putting them out as fact. What she said is literally the education policies of George W. Bush's administration. - Hold teachers responsible for failing schools. Not the society that keeps the children and family in misery and poverty. 10 year old Shawn dodged bullets to get to school this morning but it's poor teaching that prevents his learning, not his terror and hunger. And I guarantee, most parents have no time to "volunteer" as they are trying and failing to pay rent and feed the family. - The absurd statement that they want to tear down the achieving schools instead of lifting up poor schools. Perhaps she meant demanding an equitable amount from the budget -- some of which might have to come from the wealthier districts? The Bush policy of cutting funding to failing schools until they improve. "The beatings will continue until morale improves." I could be wrong about the guest, maybe she was out there fighting for poor districts to be better funded? - "Merit" the ultimate measure of the right. "Pull yourself up by your bootstraps!" And when you have no boots? Of course, to point out the lack of boots in entire segments of society means you are just an anti-merit woke-ist. - Then a comment about the unions. For Stella and those living overseas, I remind you, the United States has no universal healthcare. People need health insurance to receive care. Those who have insurance usually get it from their jobs. (some of it) In the case of many teachers, this comes through their unions. One of the reasons the Right fights unions is to break it's strength in demanding benefits. Think of the great savings if employers didn't have to pay into healthcare accounts. Moreover, the same people denigrating underpaid unappreciated teachers and their union are the first offer "thoughts and prayers" when they are killed trying to shield children from a rain of bullets. What is the merit in doing that I wonder? I am not a teacher, but I know many. None caught up in promoting this gender agenda and all having to navigate their around the imposed policies, abusive parents, and driving Uber when not teaching.
Clearly you did not listen to the whole episode. Also, the policies that Maud is challenging have been shown time and again to hurt disadvantaged kids more. When you lower the standards at schools across the board, the families who can pay tutors will make sure their kids don't fall behind. The families who can't afford tutors will be left behind. In New York City, and in some other cities, they are literally trying to take away programs for high achievers (of all races) in order to appear equitable, in other words lowering the bar for everyone, rather than invest in under-performing areas to lift them up. Call her positions right-wing, if you want, but it used to be the liberals and the Democrats who wanted policies that helped marginalized people. Many of the policies Maud has been fighting, only help the families affluent enough to compensate in other ways.
This is very cultish. This meeting would put off most average, sensible people. I don't think "left wing" people necessarily want to be included in this rubbish.
I just saw that "hummering" and it reminded me the film Midsumer. It very pshychologically agressive. It puts people in a ( je continue en français je ne sais comment le dire) dans un état de sidération.
I was thinking about this idea of taking an avocate along to meetings where gender ideology might be getting railroded. It would have to be someone who's values align with your own, but also, the potential pushback is likely to be 'inclusive' in the most discriminatory way. It reminded me of the various kinds of service animals that people have to assist them with special needs. Its unlawful to refuse attendance of such assistance animals. Perhaps we need trained dogs to help us navigate a gender radical world, particularly in meetings where diversity of views and meritocracy of ideas may be vilified. It might be helpful to has a dog that can neutralise vilification of gender critical dialogue. Any adhom such as calling someone a transphobe and other pre-emptive though crime policing, can be de- incentivised by a very protective and assertive anti-censorship dog called Trigger. He would give gender radicals a 'trigger warning' from the gender critical position.
This story got me pumped to really get involved in my three kids' education. They're very young, so I have a lot of time to do the right thing. Some of the struggle will be working with my spouse on this, as we do not agree on this issue. Plus, I don't want my kids learning about s*x from strangers. That's creepy. I can teach them in an appropriate way.
@@robertmarshall2502 Part of the issue is that whenever we have a "discussion" (read: argument) about this, it devolves, and we can't get to the issues, and talk about what each of us actually believes. My wife doesn't feel safe to share with me, she says. It's very possible she doesn't have extreme views like a lot of activists out there, but I don't know that, so I'm left guessing, and I have to fill in the blanks. I love my wife dearly, and I know her motivation for this is compassion, but I think it's misguided. And I've told her this. If you're the praying type, pray for me. @@St.MartinofToursPrayToGodForUs Sorry mate, sounds like a difficult situation. Without clear communication it's very hard. Hopefully you can find the middle ground first, where you both agree on trying to raise your kids well, and then explore the edges from there
I really don’t see how someone can be as selfish as unmaskers/people like this. It was a global pandemic, people were dying in masses, NYC didn’t even have enough space for all of the dead bodies and this woman thinks her kids school being open without masks is more important? There was a virus killing hundreds of people on a daily basis and yet you as a parent is completely about your toddler having to wear a mask? The teacher wearing a mask? What if that teacher has an immune deficiency? Is immune compromised? Has a family member at home with cancer or respiratory problems that will most certainly die if they get infected with Covid, but as a teacher they’re forced to go to work to have their income due to parents like this, protesting for the schools to be open. And then you have the audacity to complain about the teacher wearing a mask and face shield? Maybe you should take a second to consider other people just for once.
Unfortunately masks (especially those that most toddlers wore) do not stop the spread of a respiratory virus. The vast majority of children were also not at risk from the virus itself, as negative impacts were highly age stratified. It was not long ago that individualized care was considered the pinnacle of medical advancement and it was widely accepted that all interventions contain a level of risk. Individual risk versus benefit must be considered even in the face of a pandemic, especially for children.
@LP-dc7fh That's an extremely misleading claim. N95s and KN95s do prevent transmission very effectively. Surgical masks, much less so. Cloth masks, not at all. It's unfortunate that as a society we didn't learn our lessons from the pandemic, which is that buildings need to have high quality ventilation and filtration to prevent constant infections. HEPA filters, open windows, use of fans -- these are cheap, easy tools to prevent needless infections. And yet we don't do them, forcing anyone at elevated risk for serious illness and longterm complications of acute infection to wear masks, only to then be scoffed at by people who believe misinformation and disinformation. And by the way, repeated infections over a lifetime strongly contribute to dementia later in life. The cost to society of doing nothing to stem tide after tide of infectious diseases within the population is astronomical. But, sure, God forbid a teacher dealing with germy kids all day wear a mask. Nobody's kid is so precious that teachers should have to put their health and their lives on the line like that.
She's thinking about the impact on her child's development which is not at all unreasonable. Two things can be important to consider at the same time. The need for balance and nuance on hot button issues is one of the themes of this episode. If you know all the right answers and cannot tolerate a different perspective because it's a life or death, black and white issue...then, well, I don't know, good luck?
I work in health care so I know its incredibly rare for kids to be harmed by Covid 19, unless their health is very compromised. Older employees or ones with certain health problems can do things to protect themselves, including staying home, to avoid Covid.
They were masking 2-4 year old toddlers in New York City until June of 2022! (Yes 2022, not 2020) Maud isn't talking about the initial mask mandates. But looooooong after people could go to bars and restaurants in NYC (and many other places) without masks, they were still requiring toddlers to wear masks in school. By that time it was already clear that there was absolutely no benefit, but rather that it was harming the littlest of kids to do this.
@@MysticMom75agree! And there were no studies on the effectiveness of masks in stopping the spread of covid using toddlers or children of an age as the subjects. From my experience teaching, masks were such a joke with small kids.
As a single issues podcast, it isn't necessarily a problem to take no position on other injustices, such as Israel/Palestine matters. However, there is a danger that in consistently allowing hasbara from one side to go unchallenged and not platforming alternative perspectives, an accusation of an implicit position on this issue may stick.

I got chills when I saw the video of them all wearing white and humming. Such a cult 😭😭😭

My daughter, 35 now works for a German Company, weive I South Africa. Het company had a, I would call it a training session where they were told that sex is assigned at birth. She was sti pregnant at that stage. And she fell for this. She is very educated. Her boy, and he is clearly a boy, is nearly 2.
These kind of things really scare me that they can reach peoe who are educated and intelligent! And that through her work.
Weird how otherwise intelligent people can fall for this garbage.
This is so helpful. How can I get in touch with Maud Maron? I have a question about IEPs and would love her opinion.

Really hate to think that the children of today who never get truly graded on their work ethic and abilities are going to be our future leaders and caretakers of their elders. Another interview with an well versed guest.
My report cards always said "tons of potential. Doesn't apply himself."
I just saw that "hummering" and it reminded me the film
Midsumer.

@@robertmarshall2502 Part of the issue is that whenever we have a "discussion" (read: argument) about this, it devolves, and we can't get to the issues, and talk about what each of us actually believes. 53:21 It’s JUVENILE & CHILDISH 🤷🏾♂️😂
I'm glad you said this, because it needs to be said.
I was fuming when I heard Gerald Nadler's statement. I lost all respect for him.

I have little patience for people complaining about Covid policies. It was an emergency. It is hard to listen to her on other topics then.
We should complain loudly about the Covid policies, it was a manufactured Plandemic, not an emergency !
@@MysticMom75agree! And there were no studies on the effectiveness of masks in stopping the spread of covid using toddlers or children of an age as the subjects. From my experience teaching, masks were such a joke with small kids.
