    I visited Reykjavik last year, and while I truly enjoyed my stay, the signs of capture were umistakable everywhere (as, to be fair, they have been in every place I have visited, at least since the lockdowns ended, but Reykjavik was an extreme case). As another commenter at Ophelia Benson's excellent blog "Butterflies and Wheels" pointed out, the endeless rainbow flags (and let's not pretend that this still has anything to do with LGB rights or interests) are not just a sign that this is a "welcoming" or "safe" space for trans people. To everyone else (like the flag of a hostile occupying force) they're a warning and an implicit threat: "We own this place, and unless you're on board with medical experimentation on children, male rapists in women's jails etc., you better stay the hell out!"

      The funny thing is that the new “inclusive” flag absolutely does not fly in actual gay spaces. If you visit the Castro District, a giant plain old gay rainbow flag flies on the corner of Castro and Market, and you don’t find a sign of the new flag in the entire neighborhood. It’s very clear that actual gays reject this ideology.

    The problem that I have with “leave the adults alone” is that my “adult” daughter who is 18 years and 14 days old is no more self aware than she was at 17 years and 364 days, but she now has an appointment at a gender clinic. She has been on the this path for a few years and is just now entering a time where she has enough life experience behind her that she can could perhaps start thinking deeply and break away. But the testosterone appointment is already scheduled.

      My problem with the "adults can do with their bodies what they want" argument is that they give corrupt endocrinologists and surgeons a free pass to do harm.
      Endocrinologists deal with deseases of hormone-procucing glands such as thyroids, ovaries, testicles, adrenal glands or the pituitary gland. But the criminals of this brand itentionally disrupt a person`s endocrine system by pumping them full of wrong sex hormones because of an illusion in the patient`s head. They should be stripped of their license and thrown in a prison until they remember of "first do no harm".

    I really enjoyed listening to Eldur but I'm impressed by how quickly he's managed to make an impact.
    I wish him all the best! It's a tough battle, we are smeared as transphobic and I can only speak for myself but I support trans people's rights to live the best lives they can.
    I don't support children being medicated, I don't support other forms of therapy being labeled "conversation therapy", I don't support Stonewall's "NO DEBATE" stance.
    This is a difficult nuanced subject. We should be looking into all areas of trans healthcare. Investigating why ROGD in girls has gone through the roof. I don't support using experimental drugs to block puberty despite having the data on side effects from the studies on the original uses of the drugs.
    I just want clear, honest information!
    It's very frustrating but I'm so glad to have Stella and Sasha to learn from. You two women have really helped me to understand what is going on.

    In Order to understand why attending a Public School is mandatory here in Germany and in other Countries, you Must understand that at the time school was introduced 200 years ago it made Perfect sense. Kids at that time often were send to do labour for the Family, either as factory workers or before on their parents‘ land as Farmers, hence they had no Education whatsoever. In Order to get people educated and made available to the Military, they had to Go to school, so they made it mandatory. Since then it hasn‘t changed.

I think you mean to say he “blew your mind”. “Blowing your head off” would indicate that he shot you in the head with a powerful gun. The phrase is typically used when referring to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

    This was great; made me think how incredibly interesting it is to hear about this debate from more different countries. Because this is one of the strange thing about these movements. I'm from Germany, myself, and we recently got self-ID laws, as if every country just copy-pastes something, and this ideology is everywhere and yet all our countries have a very different origin story of lgbt-rights from before every idea was so immediately globalized. So yeah, it's lovely hearing more about national differences and how these ideas are spreading in different ways and via different vectors, and how each country can find their way back to a more reasonable view on the issue.

      @@AnneFearon I agree that would be fascinating. Another thing though. I see Stella and Sasha as incredibly reasonable, kind and very thoughtful on this subject. Why won't people on the pro trans debate come and have a sensible discussion on how we move forward together.
      There are bad actors on both sides who will just dig their heels in and refuse to put their arguments over in good faith. Maybe it has just become such a toxic debate that it's not possible at the moment.
      I'm sure it's very hard to debate in favour of medicalising young children with off label medication without any robust data to suggest it produces successful outcomes. It is also difficult to support the less contentious (still very important) issues around women's spaces but I've seen plenty of videos on RUclips with people arguing that Transwoman have no advantage in female sport. That if you are against having biological men in a women's toilet then you are obsessed with genitals and should just stay out of that space!

    Homeschooling in most European countries is either illegal (Germany, the Netherlands, Greece, Croatia) or severely restricted, as in Sweden, where it constitutes a rare exception from the law that states that all children must attend an organized and approved public or private school. You can apply for approval to provide home schooling for your child, but it is only granted in very special situations, e.g. for medical reasons.

    I am looking forward to the states right’s versus parental rights fight. It is ridiculous that state taxes citizens at every point and the cost of raising a kid is high but parents do it anyway for their family and passing on their traditions.
    But through the insidious education system the state or federal then tries to take away their kids and encroach on their heritage and culture based on what? In the USA they hardly even touch on civil duty and national pride so on what basis should any parent trust the state or fed with their kids? People don’t have kids to become automatons for the state.
    Unfortunately, this seems quite suspicious endeavor when you think of low income families and the number of minorities kids going into the system due to drug and other issues that plague some areas. It gives question to the possibility that some of this breakdown may not be accidental.
    Ideological capture is another word for social capital blackmail. If you don’t capitulate then we take away your license. It’s coercion and blackmail.

I know we're in this difficult place because shame doesn't convince anyone to leave a cult but we need so much cultural reflection in the west about how we got here and how little critical thinking we do. All it took was for two doctors to say it and everyone else co-signed the irrational.

    I had no idea that seperation of church and state didn’t exist there.
    I’m a former teacher that homeschools and one reason is that I’m concerned about peer influence at a young age. When I quit we didn’t have trans students but I did have a student tell me while I was pregnant that if I had a boy I could just change him into a girl because boys are stinky. I looked at her and said no you can’t do that. Another student with cognitive disabilities expressed wanting to be a girl from time to time. He was pretty effeminate but if I had to guess he would be one of those rare cases of actual gender identity disorder. He had a lot of early childhood trauma too prior to his adoption.

    Homeschooling also requires a certain state certified curriculum in US as well I imagine. Plus they must do periodic checkups to see if the child is learning? In Australia some areas are so remote you can only home school. You can’t just teach your child anything you want. Like cults or or extreme religious groups. Do Amish have to provide certain basic education?

    • @TheresFuckeryAfoot
      @TheresFuckeryAfoot Месяц назад

      In the US it depends on the state but there is no “certification” required to homeschool. You don’t even have to have a college degree or high school diploma yourself.
      Most states only require you to file a letter of intent, letter to withdraw your child from public school and agree to teach basic subjects (reading/writing, math, science, social sciences). There is no follow up, there is no accountability as to what they are teaching. Someone could teach the earth is flat and only use the Bible as their “reading material”. And make no mistake, there are people who do such things. They may have trouble if they try to get their GED certificate (general education development) later but there’s a growing number of people who are simply not qualified to teach basic foundational education, who are homeschooling their whole family.
      As for the Amish, it was codified by the Supreme Court that the Amish don’t need to keep their children in school past the 8th grade. Most stop their children’s education at 8th grade and they put them to work. Also, the Amish teachers, themselves, only have an 8th grade education as well.

      Homeschooling in the US is a joke. There are some parents who take it very seriously and who band together to co-teach their students/children and give them really enriching experiences, but then there are super religious people who are just afraid that their children will be exposed to reality, so they just have them do workbooks and coloring books all day. They're usually pretty decent at reading and math, but the critical-thinking skills are usually horrible.

    • @nparksntx
      @nparksntx 23 дня назад +1

      I’m in Texas in the US and the only requirements is that we teach math, reading, writing and citizenship with a curriculum. Thankfully we don’t have government officials coming into our home. In Texas homeschool falls under private education so the same laws apply to private schools.

      @@wanderlustpilgrimit’s also used to describe people in the general public who willingly support an ideology, often without fully comprehending it, without concern for the harm it does to others, without using balanced critical thinking or discernment to assess their beliefs/ideology. They will support & defend the ideology even when it contradicts other beliefs they claim to have.
      These people may not be working in circles where donations or political sway are involved and they may not “benefit” directly or gain any power from aligning with the ideology but they are captured ideologically nonetheless. Sometimes someone is captured by an ideology because they truly believe it is “good” or “godly” or “kind” etc. they can’t see clearly what the outcomes of ideology are & the potential harm, because they’re psychologically “captured”.
