    There are two prices - the buying price and the selling price. With few exceptions the selling price once left a shop is going to be atleast 25% below the buying price which is the tax element of the product. Yes in a booming market with demand there are people that will pay up when things start to stall the everything plunges because the free flow capital has been sucked out of people. Here is an example of image, Rolex are regarded as an exclusive brand made in small numbers with high end Swiss workers. Reality - Rolex make over a million watches a year every year - are they made by skilled Swiss workers ? Nope they are made by French workers who cross the border every day because the taxes in France are half those of Switzerland plus the cost of living is about half too. Now put that into the guitar market with Fender and Gibson, their production numbers are huge not the same level as the 50s 60s or even 70s or 80s. More guitars are made by one manufacturer in a week than were made in the whole of the 50s. Scarcity makes value - image makes value in bull markets - bear markets show the delusion that existed in the bull market.

    I have a few Japanese JV Strats from 1983 and a Paisley Telecaster JV also from 1983. Also a 1957 USA Fullerton reissue from 1982 and a 1962 reissue USA Fullerton from 1983. So, they are all valuable and lovely guitars. Today I bought a new Limited Edition Fiesta Red, roasted maple Player series Strat with Custom Shop Fat 50s pickups. I wanted a good Fender Strat with great pickups, tone control for the bridge pickup, 9.5" radius with modern jumbo frets. The roasted maple was another reason. I am very confident it will be a great guitar. Played the standard version Player in a shop years ago and was very, very impressed. I would have bought it, but another guy in the shop bought it while I was there and they didn't have another in Buttercream in stock at the time. I'm glad I held off all these years and got this wonderful Limited Edition Player. Despite having my lovely 'vintage' Fenders, I have and never will be a 'cork sniffer'. It's all a load of nonsense. As this gentleman says, it's either the right guitar for you or it isn't, notwithstanding your budget. The Player series has been hugely successful for Fender, at least the Strats have... Currently, I see no other Fender Strat available (other than the Player Strat) with a 9.5" radius with medium jumbos. Sadly Fender dropped the American Standard which I think was a backward move. Thanks for your rant, I totally agree.

    My 1996 Crimson or blood red Squire is beautiful! The paint is perfect and it feels and sounds great! I have a genuine 1968 Tele blonde made in Korea and i’m not sure if it’s a bootleg but it looks and sounds great and may be a plywood body. Regardless it is a real 1968 and plays beautifully. I have tons of guitars and are a professional metal musician so i haven’t played these in a while,pictures of them are on my IG and i have vids here that show them every now and then. Love meeting other guitar and drum collectors and i loved your video and content! Subbed! Ultra

    Never sell to a shop unless you are ok with losing your money. They have to make money, and they have to sit on it. I've never not regretted selling a guitar or any piece of gear to a shop. I think most people need to consider the business owner. Good video! Thanks for the perspective.

    When HB, Jet, Fazley and others offer strats or teles with roasted necks (worth $500+ elsewhere) for a retail price of $150+ you obviously do not need to consider the "main" brands. If you are a man and know how to use a file and a screwdriver you possess enough skill to do basic setup on a budget guitar. It would be crazy to think of it as an investment, when a quality instrument can be had for the price of a no frills family dinner. The big brands have themselves to blame for moving their production to China 30-40 yrs ago and letting people without respect for copyright to learn wood and guitar production. It would be obvious for a 7yr old to realize that a flood of copycats would follow especially with advent of CNC and other modern manufacturing technology. Thanks Gary for keeping us up to date.

    Guitars are made from 6 individual main parts that can all be swapped out. You have the body and neck, then you have the pickups then you have the tuners and bridge and then you have the electronics. Body, neck, pickups, electronics, tuners and bridge. You can swap any of those out and make a $70 guitar as good as a $7000 guitar. Mainly because the $7000 is sold for the brand name or the endorsements.

    And you add to that the hugely improved quality of Indonesian and Chinese guitars, the drive to buy an American made guitar is diminished. I play an 80 Gibson ES-347/79 ES-335TD that I bought when they were sub 2000 (the latter was sub 1400). I wanted to get something that fit with those guitars but was a bit different. I did a bunch of research and there was so much information about how good the Yamaha Revstar Standard is. Why go out and buy someone's $1200 Epiphone off of Craigslist when I can get a used Revstar for less than 700 on Reverb or Ebay. I missed the covid era gear buy up because my rig hasn't changed in 8 years. But I have seen this great divide between overpriced name brands and underpriced well built Asian guitars.

    Apropos of nothing, the Princeton 68 Custom is a really good electric piano amp! I just recorded a bunch of tracks with various pieces of gear, and though my Supro Black Magick was the amp to handle the guitars, the Princeton was delicious on Rhodes piano! You can dial up the reverb for roomy sustain, put a little trem on for kind of a Leslie-ish warble, and the darker character not only handles the bass frequencies great -- it tames some of the plinkier tone of a Rhodes' upper register. I like mine alot as a guitar amp, too... But as the secret weapon on a piano track, it's different gravy.

    what about plastic knobs with rubber bands around them then a cable with 3-4 layers of heat shrink on it, that way you can save the original tone and sound but not get shocked, I plug all my gear into power converters so they get good celan consistent power so they last longer sound better, I shut off the power strip the power converter is plugged into that the power converter I plug amps into. YES I use TWO converters I plug the power converter onto a power conditioner, and that is plugged into a power strip that has a safety breaker all that in it, so my power is very celan and very consistent, if I had another I would use 3 if I had another, one to run two conditioners cleaners, one would run the effects, one would run the amps, I would run them off two totally different circuits o\in the house, 20 amp circuits, also I use better circuit breakers than what comes in most homes, I use a special power conditioner voltage REGULATOR style! then I use a plug in conditioner that will have like 4 outputs, 4 usb so forth all protected.. so that protector runs off a wiring in house that's using a conditioner surge protector circuit.. then a protector conditioner plugged into the wall that I run a power strip fault protector off of. then into that I plug i one power conditioner... I then do the same on a totally different breaker in the box, then I will run my effects off one, the amps off the other .. at times, now I just have everything off one protected/conditioned breaker, then a 4 way usb outlet conditioner filter fault protected box, then the one RR-15 off that, then another RR-15 into that.. effects and amps into t hat, so like quad conditioned .. if I run the two stereo big 100 watt stack then they use their own circuit, 2 RR-15's into a walled conditioner surge protector w/USB's as well, effects would run off a totally different circuit in the breaker box.. I'd like to get an industrial conditioner protector to run BEFORE the breaker box but no go in the place I am at... if I build that's how its going to be, and I will run 2 meters and boxes, one for the home one for the studio/gear so i can start off with good power right off the bat, if you do not think this matters you are wrong, it does, unless you have a conditioned power already, older homes, you want it, anywhere you have a lot of homes near each other, you want it, signals can bleed thru form a blender or whatever, clothes dryer.. filter it out, stabilize it and insure its protected for faults you are good to go, protect your investments and always run good celan filtered power thru them it pays off no jokes, tone alone its worth it to me... you can hear the difference specially at higher draws .. yessir, try it you never know?

    I have not noticed the Apocalypse as of yet. In 2019 I was getting used Mex Fenders Strats for $300 to 350 & Mex Fender Teles for $425 to 475, now folks want $500 for more for a Strat and 6 plus for Mex Teles. I found some great guitars and created some amazing fraken-strats but have not bought a used Fender for over year because folks are asking to much (in my eyes). I welcome the prices to fall and cant wait to get a plexi for a reasonable cost hahaha.

    I think the economy being bad is directly related to everyday cost. People don't eat jobs or the stock market. The issue is with food prices, gas and incidentals. Pre-lockdown coffee creamer was $4,99 its now $7.99. Chips are like $7 and the GD bag is smaller. Shake-n-Bake is $8 for damn bread crumbs and they don't give you the bags anymore. But yeah guitars. I always get the crap end of the stick because I am left handed. MAP leveled the playing field in list prices, but in vintage I always see these dealers that go "ultra rare" left haded *** and charge way more than the right handed equivalent. Guitars are even subject to steady price inflation. When the American Vintage II came out it was $2,099 now, a couple of years later, they are $2,299 people feel that crap. Anyhow, it sounds like the people coming at you to sell guitars sound like the buttheads from those Pawn Star episodes. You know how that goes. Most people always want what they buy to be at the cheapest price, and what they sell to be for a large profit. I've seen some amazing hillbilly crap on marketplace for astonishing prices.

  • @Natch67
    @Natch67 17 дней назад

    Mexican made is fine. Usually the corners cut are in the hardware and some finishing touches like crowning the frets. By the time you replace the average tuning keys, sometimes bridge saddles, and perhaps a graphtec nut? Your initial $800 investment is closing in around 1k. I accept this because I want to add certain touches and since I'm not exactly devaluing the guitar (as an American made)? It doesn't bother me at all. Mainly because the body and neck aren't so different from American made. However, a Japanese Strat will get you instantly closer to an American (sometimes more) made than a typical Mexi. And, is why I prefer them (Japan) overall. (2 cents.)
