Mark, someone suggested a booster pedal for use with a strat (single coils) and a Marshall Valve State 8420, what to boost the impedance? Anyway, I get hissing and the overall tone isn't that great, whereas with my Epi Les it sounds great. Is a booster the answer? Thanks

That's the sound of the single coil. If I were you I'd buy the MXR 10 band EQ, use it for a boost and use the eq to sculpt the sound the way you want to hear it... cut some highs, thicken it up.

@@GarysGuitarsUSA Thanks yeah I was wondering about a eq perhaps. Also my Valvestate has a rf issue, had any experience with that? I saw somebody on utube repairing that, said it was caused by plugging in the jack while turned on from static electricity damaging a jfet input dual op?

My device i use has an "air" setting, is that compression do you think?

"air" is hard to put a finger on :-) Usually in audio "air" refers to a high end boost. but there is no hard and fast definition to the sound of "air." I would guess it's not compression.
