Snow Globe Rescue
США
Добавлен 17 дек 2020
During the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, my wife and I started a snow globe collection. Early on we found snow globes that were in need of repair. We learned how to repair show globes and our motivation became looking for snow globes that have been abandoned because they have issues. We bring them home, fix them and then add them to our collection. We feel that we are rescuing them and are giving them a second chance. We really didn't have an interest in snow globes before. We started 2020 with 2 snow globes that we've had for over 20 years, we now have over 200, most of which we have repaired. We find the experience fun and rewarding and we really enjoy the collection. In this channel we want to share with you tips and techniques that we have developed for repairing snow globes and hopefully you enjoy what we are doing, learn something, and maybe even start your own collection.

Is there any other way to get these open without breaking them? I have a snowglobe that's about that tiny I've been working at opening it for an hour now and just realized upon looking inside the edges of the snowglobe with a flashlight it looks like stripes of super glue in it, it's a miracle I didn't shatter it trying to twist it. I don't understand why snowglobe makers would use super glue instead of hot glue, it pretty much guarantees it can't be fixed without breaking it.
What is in the "snow water" is it just model snow and water?
Hi. The globe contains water, clear glue, and a bit of alcohol. The snow is a fine grain snow that was already in the globe.
Thank yooooou! I was searching for a hard base snowglobe, didn't know the term, so all i saw were the music ones 🤣
Hi. We are happy that we could help!
Hey you two. So sorry I haven't gotten to you guys on guessing the tunes for you. It's not that I didn't want to, when I tried to click the link, it wouldn't show on my end. Let me know of any other way, if you still need music box assistance.
Hi TJ. I created two videos with the tunes. I'm not sure what links you used, however, I just tested these two links and they are both working. Let me know if they work for you: ruclips.net/user/shortsgY04FDTP35w?feature=share ruclips.net/user/shortsDtJQr-88qbU?feature=share
Hey again. I tried to click on the link that you sent, but it gave me an error saying something went wrong. Don’t know what’s going on. You could try to email me the videos and see if that will work.
Sure, I'll give it a try. Our email address is tespi74@gmail.com. Send us an email and we'll try sending those videos as email attachments and see if that works.
Hi! Where can I buy the articicial snow for snowglobes?, I bought one that doesn't sinks. Do you have a link please? Thanks!
Hi. There are three links in the video description of all of our videos to companies that sell snow globe parts including snow. Check out Episode 19 to see our review of the snow that we found at one of them.
Hola, soy de Argentina. Vi tus videos. Estoy por fabricar bolas de nieve aca en argentina. Pero no se con que pintura pintar las figuras de adentro para que el agua no las destiña. ¿Usted cual usa?

This is close to the globe I have and exactly what I needed to know to fix it! Thank you!
We are happy to hear that. Thank you for letting us know. Good luck!
Where can I buy snow globe glass replacement?
Hi. There are links to three online vendors in the video description that sell snow globe parts, or you can do what we do and find an inexpensive used snow globe at the thrift store that has the same size globe and repurpose it. Good luck!
What is Cinderella worth?
Hi. That is a good question. We have not been able to locate this globe online to get a value.
Why do you put clear glue in the water?
Hi. The clear glue makes the water thicker so the snow or glitter fall at a slower rate. Other options are glycerine, plain water, or using baby oil instead of water. You can check out Episode 32 where we do a side by side comparison.
Hi what is the size of the globe you usex
Hi. I just measured it. It appears to be a 3.5" globe.
Thank you. Your video helps me a lot. You are awesome ❤
Happy to help!
EXACT information I was looking for!! Thanks guys!🥰
Glad we could help!

Yes it is! A pretty cool one.
That is a aqua blue greenish color of jumbo glitter
Yes. We like the results on this one.
I love that music, one of my favorite carousel horse music box, tune is that was friends are for by Rod Stewart, and horses are my animal.
Nice. Rod Stewart, that is cool! We agree, horses are great. We have many carousel horse snow globes.
The Tune that is playing "For Elise by Ludwig van Beethoven"
Thank you! That seems to be a popular music box tune in a lot of the snow globes we have come across.
Looking forward to restoring a couple cloudy snow globes from the 90s I bought online for my collection. This was super helpfull! Thank you! 😊
We're glad that the video was helpful. Good luck with the restoration. We are sure they will look great!
Hi! I love watching your videos. I have a snowglobe where the electric wires have been disconnected from the battery and was hoping for help on getting the wires attached. Do you have any videos with electric? Thanks!
Hi! We are happy to hear that you are enjoying the videos. Check out Episode 91 on Basic Soldering Techniques. It should help.
I have the exact music box
Nice! One of our subscribers told us that it is rare. We have not come across another one.
Because of Hurricane Ida, i lost my apartment and my 50 or so snowglobes were pit in a plastic tote with blankets between layers go protect them. My storage unit got broken into and may got broken. The ones that werent broken either lost water, the ornament inside detached and is floating around or the water turned colors or is cloudy and many have separated from the base. Does changing the water affect the ornament inside?
Hi. Sorry to hear about your snow globes. That is unfortunate. Changing the water in the snow globe does not have a negative affect on the ornament. Good luck!
what is the clear glue that you add to the water?
We use Elmer's Clear glue. However, you can use other brands of clear glue as long as the glue dissolves in water.
Great job and thank you for sharing. Blessings from Texas. 🙏🏻😇🙏🏻
We are happy that you enjoyed the video. Thank you for the comment and thank you for the blessings, we can use them these days.
I really enjoyed this video, thank you for this ! Is there a way i can contact you personally via an email or something of that sort? I'd like to show you a very interesting case of a snow globe which i have no idea how to begin replacing it's water...
We are happy that you enjoyed the video. You can email us at tespi74@gmail.com. We'll see if we can provide any advice. Thanks for the comment.
Was this sold in Disney World Parks?
Not sure. For some reason we were under the impression that this one coming from the Disney store. We heard that Disney is not is not making these large globes anymore. We haven't verified that.
I want to thank you both . I have so many heart felt globes that have been given to me from all over the world . I just didnt know what to do or how to fix them. I spent too many days / nights looking at them and crying because I didn't know where to go to get help and how to combat the task. I was so afraid of showing my collection off or even having them out because of this of being cloudy or the figure wouldnt sit right or would pop off and leak . I know you havent posted in a while but if or when you see this, I wanted to say thank you , I cant Express how thankful I am for you both. You have saved so many important memories. You both change lives and may not know it. Thank you for all that you do and most importantly giving hope to those who were so lost . Thank you so much!!!! I hope you both are safe and healthy , and living your best lives !!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi and thank you for the comment. We are very happy that we were able to help you. We have been dealing with several health issues this past year including a move due to one of the issues and we have not been able to work on any globes for a while. I was going to say how do you stop the brown reoccurring and going green.
The alcohol in the globe water prevents algae and bacteria from forming.
Why doesn’t the glue set?
Which glue is having an issue; the glue to hold the figurine on the stopper or the hot glue to seal the globe?
Im gonna try making my own globe with a polymer clay sculpture your videos are very helpful
That sounds like a great project. We are sure it will be amazing!
I have found my people lol
We are happy that you found us!
U use silicone for aquariums to glue the sculpture to the plug?
We use Zap-A-Gap to attach the figurine to the rubber plug, however, early on we used used Super Glue and Gorilla Glue and they work as well.
@@snowgloberescue8887do you know what i could use as a waterproof sealant for a painted sculpture?
@@snowgloberescue8887thanks!!
Hi. We have used water proofing sealant spray made by Gorilla as well as Minwax. They both seem to work well.
This is awesome. What about ones that have a usb port and switch on it?
We have never seen a snow globe with a USB port. We have come across many with switches for lights. We are careful with those not to get the electrical parts wet during repair.
@@snowgloberescue8887 do you service others for people or just your own? Also just checked it’s like an android plug in probably to charge it

What an in depth video comparing these substances. Now a hard question, is there a ratio combining these substances for the best result? I have a snow globe from Las Vegas I had to repair and didn't know this tiny niche has an encyclopedia of information for reference. This is hands down the best comparison for what I needed. Thank y'all so much.
We have not been able to find any concrete information on what ratios to use. We have come up with a ratio that works for us through trial and error. We use 65% water, 30% clear glue, and 5% isopropyl alcohol. We do know that some manufacturers use up to 30% alcohol as an antifreeze.
I have received this exact globe (although mine has glass shards where the globe should be) I have heavy duty work gloves, pliers, tweasers, a container and boiling water. wish me luck!
You can do it! Good Luck! Let us know how it turned out.
I’ve just flown from the USA to my home country and I brought it over the flight and after I unpacked my stuff I realised that the base was detached/broken😭. It was so heartbreaking because I thought there might never be a solution to fix this. I was finding ways to fix when I found your video with exact same snow globe. I hope that I’m able to fix it like you did. Thank you so much for this ♥️
Sorry to hear about your globe. The good news is that you can fix it. Hopefully our video can help you get through the process. Good luck!
@@snowgloberescue8887 are you sure the glass won’t break after I pour the boiling water? Also what type of glue should I consider to seal the globe back in and for putting the figurine on the base
In order to prevent damage to the glass pour the boiling water up to the top of the base, keeping the glass out of the water. We have never had an issue using this method. For attaching the figurine to the stopper we use Zap-A-Gap, however, you could use Super Glue or Gorilla Glue. We have used both in the past and they appear to still be fine. We use hot glue to seal the rubber stopper.
With Hydrogen Peroxide you normally want it to sit in a clear container and be exposed to sunlight on a very warm/bright day (high UV levels).. with a lid on (to keep the gases inside) or exposed to a UV lamp for 24-48 hours. Of course it also depends on the material... I'm not sure what the figurine is made of or the kind of plastic.. but just submerging it is not enough by itself .
We need to try it the next time we have this situation. We found that the hydrogen peroxide that you buy at the pharmacy is not strong enough. We need to find a higher strength concentration in order to bleach the discoloration.
YOU SHOULD MAKE A VIDEO OF HOW TO ACTAULLY MAKE ONE. THE SOLUTION, MIXTURES, HOW TO CURE IT. ETC. BEATIFUL ROSE
Hi. That is a great idea. We recently found out from a florist who sells these that the manufacturer adds 1/2 teaspoon of white vinegar and 5 drops of chlorine bleach to the water. That is all they do. We'll put that on our to do list. Thank you!
@@snowgloberescue8887 really thats all? Nothing is done to the actual rose/flower? Its hard to believe
That is what they told us. We thought the rose may have been process somehow before being placed in the water. We will have to try it one day with a fresh rose and see what happens. Here is a link to their site: www.bardflowers.com/rose-globe.html
I was supposed to get this recently as an early birthday present from someone. The order was either cancelled or something happened to it as it never showed up, heavily disappointed as i had been wanting it for quite sometime now
Hi. That is disappointing! It is a very nice and unique snow globe. We heard from another subscriber that they were sold out on Amazon. Hopefully he can restock soon.
@@snowgloberescue8887 they've been restocked for awhile now
Good. Thanks for letting us know.
@@snowgloberescue8887 I don't know how much longer it will be stocked for or if it will even restock once gone, which is partially why I wanted it to be my gift this year in the case it doesn't ever restock again. You don't typically find many remote controlled snowglobes when looking, especially not ones with so many songs or carousel themed
Yes, it is definitely unique.
I have the last one mine is also missing water so that would be my vote. It is 2967 out of 9500.
Yes, we want to get to that one as soon as we can. Interestingly, the hourglass part that contains the water is plastic. It will not be like the standard glass snow globes that have a rubber stopper. This one will most likely have a fill plug like most plastic snow globes. The first thing we have to figure out is how to open the end so we can get to the plug. We have been dealing with health issues that have prevented us from making any videos in several months. We hope to get back to it as soon as we have these issues behind us. Thanks for the comment.
Is your water “distilled”, is your “alcohol” rubbing alcohol and how much alcohol are you using?
Hi. We use filtered water but if you have distilled water that is even better. Yes, we use rubbing alcohol, also known as isopropyl alcohol. The alcohol makes up 5% of the globe liquid.
I certainly will try to assemble some of my globes underwater! I really hate air bubbles, and I want to eliminate them if it’s at all possible. Question: is the water in the bucket distilled water? And why did you put 5 % alcohol into the snowglobe liquid? I have never heard that suggestion before, but I have actually contemplated to add alcohol. But what's the benefit? Does the liquid stay clearer with alcohol in the mix?
Hello! The underwater method of removing air bubbles works so much better than the syringe as long as the base doesn't have anything like electronics that may be affected by the water. In that case we use the syringe but we use underwater whenever possible. We add alcohol to the snow globe water to inhibit algae and bacteria growth in the water. It helps keep the water clear. When we researched how to do this we could not find a specific amount of alcohol to use so we experimented and came up with 5% which has been working fine so far. Some manufactures add as much as 30% alcohol in the water to prevent them from freezing in cold climates.
You got yourself a new subscriber 😊 I have loved snowglobes since I was a kid, but I remember that I was told that snowglobes are tacky and that they just take up space and collect dust somewhere. I recently started to produce them with recycled odd stuff which collects dust somewhere. My snow globes may well ending up collecting dust, too. But fortunately it's fairly easy to remove dust from snowglobes 😉 I want to make snowglobes which are a little more inventive than just Santa with a Christmas tree! There are so many possibilities for creating little dioramas. But most diy videos don't really cover the problems which I ran into with my first globes - like getting the right mixture for the liquid, or preventing and removing ugly air bubbles. Your videos are very helpful, and I wish xou good luck with your collection!
Thank you for being a new subscriber! We are happy that our videos are helpful. That is a great idea. Recycle old snow globes and use your creativity to make something unique and fun. You probably watched Episode 2 where we show the collection when we started the channel. You may want to check out Episode 203, if you haven't seen it, where we do an update on the collection 2 years later. We have been dealing with health issues in the past six months or so and have not been able to make any videos in a while but we hope to get back to it soon.
Where did you get this syringe? Here in Germany we can buy syringes without a needle in all pharmacies. But depending on how the hole in the snowglobe is accessible, I need a longer tube.
Germany! Nice. I lived in Germany for three years back in 1988. I was stationed in Stuttgart when I was in the Air Force. I really enjoyed my stay there. We got those syringes from a store here named Bed, Bath, And Beyond. However, you can get them from Amazon. What you need to look for is a marinating syringe, however, you want one that has only one hole at the tip, as opposed to the marinating syringes where the needle has holes on the side as well. We explain the syringe as well as our other tools in Episode 3.
It's a beautiful and very unusual globe! Do you know, how old it is? I have a few dolphins and a bunch of glass fishes and other glass marine life which I got in Murano, Venice. I will try to make a similar globe with coloured water and baby oil. Thanks for the inspiration 😊
Unfortunately there is no information on the globe so the age is unknown.
Does the hot water damage the paint?
So far we have not had any damage from the hot water, however, I can't remember if we did it with this one but for additional safety we put the snow globe in a plastic bag these days so that the base gets the heat but doesn't get wet.
Would you show us how to fix the little globe on the side?
We will do that the next opportunity that we get. However, we will most likely use the hair dryer to heat up the base where the small globe is mounted. Hopefully it was installed with hot glue since the heat will be able to loosen it. If it was installed with super glue or epoxy we may have to break the globe then install a new one. We have been dealing with health issues and hope to return soon.
