Hi! I love watching your videos. I have a snowglobe where the electric wires have been disconnected from the battery and was hoping for help on getting the wires attached. Do you have any videos with electric? Thanks!
HI I have enjoyed watching how you all fix your globes. I have a question. Where do you find replacement parts. I have several of the rubber stopper that are corroded and can't be saved. Also 1 of my large globes is cracked and needs replaced (4 inch large) I can't seem to find replacement parts. Your help would be so appreciated. Thank you Keri
Hi, thanks for watching. We are happy that you are enjoying the videos. We get all of our replacement parts by disassembling other old used snow globes that we use for parts. However, there are links in the video description to several companies that sell snow globe parts. The only company we have actually dealt with is National ArtCraft where we bought replacement snow which we review in Episode 19. The rubber stoppers are something that we have not been able to find for sale by themselves. Every company we found sells the replacement globe and rubber stopper together as a set. Again, we get all of our replacement stoppers by disassembling other snow globes. Please let us know if you happen to find a company that sells just the stoppers!
I certainly will try to assemble some of my globes underwater! I really hate air bubbles, and I want to eliminate them if it’s at all possible. Question: is the water in the bucket distilled water? And why did you put 5 % alcohol into the snowglobe liquid? I have never heard that suggestion before, but I have actually contemplated to add alcohol. But what's the benefit? Does the liquid stay clearer with alcohol in the mix?
Hello! The underwater method of removing air bubbles works so much better than the syringe as long as the base doesn't have anything like electronics that may be affected by the water. In that case we use the syringe but we use underwater whenever possible. We add alcohol to the snow globe water to inhibit algae and bacteria growth in the water. It helps keep the water clear. When we researched how to do this we could not find a specific amount of alcohol to use so we experimented and came up with 5% which has been working fine so far. Some manufactures add as much as 30% alcohol in the water to prevent them from freezing in cold climates.
@@snowgloberescue8887, the underwater-assembling method works great indeed. And since l used some glass containers which were not made for snowglobes and therefore have no rubber stoppers, l could only use the syringe method if I would punch or drill a hole into the lid, which needs to be closed again. But with the underwater method this isn't necessary. Unfortunately some pesky air bubbles can show up later, if there are air pockets hiding in the figurines, and then work their way up to the surface. That's why I don't seal my containers immediately. I can repeat the underwater-assembling procedure if necessary. I prepared a ten-liter bucket of destilled water, because l don't want to get ordinary tap water into the globe. I have covered the bucket, and I have used the same destilled water several times by now. I always wash my hands first, but I will put some alcohol into the bucket, and I will start to wear gloves. The case of the yellow-cream coloured Dalmatian puppies is very strange. I wonder if this is simply a production mistake, and someone choose the wrong colour 😊
Hi. Glad to hear that the underwater technique is working for you. You are correct, sometimes a little air bubble will hide in the figurine. We usually move the figurine around in the water at different angles and tap it but sometimes you still get one in there.
Hi tony Hi Ally. I watch some YT channels which restores old consoles and they use hydrogen peroxid in combination with UV light maybe that would help. Turned out pretty nice. See you in the next one. 🙏
Wow great job. A lot of steps involved in this one. It's a beautiful piece too with so much attention to detail. For the part where you put the globe in the bucket, is that regular water or more of your special glue mix? If it's just water would it mess up your ratio in the globe by mixing?
The water in the bucket is plain water. The amount of water that gets in to displace the air bubble is small and not enough to throw off the overall effect.
I have this exact snowglobe. My figure is yellowed too. I wonder if a paint restoration technique would work. Other question. You said you use 65% water 30% glue and 5% alcohol. What type of alcohol do you mean? Isopryl, rubbing or other? Also where do you get your replacement globes?
We saw a few for sale online that had the yellow figurine and there were some that were not yellow. We assume it did not start out yellow. We use isopropyl alcohol, which we understand is also known as rubbing alcohol. We get all of our replacement globes by disassembling other old snow globes for parts, however, there are links in the video description to some companies that sell snow globe parts.
We get all of our replacement globes by disassembling other old used snow globes. However, there are links in the video description to three companies that sell snow globe parts and you can get the replacement glass there. All of their globes come with a stopper.
I'm making snow globes for my family for Christmas and have never done anything like it before. They're coming out great (after several mistakes), with the exception of some of the snow, which is floating on top. I thought at first that it just needed time to settle, but now I'm wondering if it's because I used the wrong kind of glitter. I put 2 different kinds in, and one seems to fall to the bottom while the other collects at the top. There are no air bubbles. Each one is a 4 3/4" National Artcraft globe with 1/2 Tbsp. of glycerin, a small capful of rubbing alcohol, and 2 Tbsp. of glitter. I already sealed the rubber gasket in place with silicone adhesive and i really don't want to take it apart and do it all over again (again. Lol). Is there any way that I can get it to fall without taking the whole thing apart, or are my only choices to leave it as is or take it apart and start over?
Hi. It depends. We have had glitter where some settles and some floated to the top. In all cases, the glitter that floated to the top eventually settles after a few days. We would tap on the globe and shake it up each day and each time some more glitter would fall until one day it all settled. We found out with new snow you have to soak it for a few days to water log it so they settle when you put in the globe. Some glitter apparently works the same way. However if it does not settle in a few days you can try using a syringe like the one we show in Episode 3, cut through the sealer and inject a few drops of clear liquid soap into the globe. Soap breaks the surface tension of the water and can help things settle that are floating. Worth a try before deciding to take it apart and start over. If you do start over we recommend the Recollections line of glitter. You can get it at Michael's or Amazon. We have never had an issue with it. Good luck.
Thank you for your quick and thorough response! I did soak it for a couple days before putting it in, and it has been a couple days since I filled the globes. They don't seem to be settling, so I might have to try again. Where do you get your syringe, and is there a particular kind of soap (dish soap, hand soap, etc) that works best?
We found the syringe at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. They also have them on Amazon. It is a marinating syringe but what is important for snow globe repair is that the needle only has a hole at the end. Don't get one of the marinating syringes that has holes on the side of the needle. Any liquid soap should work as long as it is clear
With Hydrogen Peroxide you normally want it to sit in a clear container and be exposed to sunlight on a very warm/bright day (high UV levels).. with a lid on (to keep the gases inside) or exposed to a UV lamp for 24-48 hours. Of course it also depends on the material... I'm not sure what the figurine is made of or the kind of plastic.. but just submerging it is not enough by itself .
We need to try it the next time we have this situation. We found that the hydrogen peroxide that you buy at the pharmacy is not strong enough. We need to find a higher strength concentration in order to bleach the discoloration.
I've had good results using OxyClean to get rid of yellowing. I'm guessing these figurines are a composite which means the yellowing has gone below the surface. If that's the case I don't think there is much more you can do.
Hi. We'll have to try OxyClean the next time time we have this situation, however, as you pointed out, that discoloration appears to be deep in the plastic and not just something on the surface.
Hi! I tried the submersion technique and still ended up with little tiny air bubbles in each one. What am i doing wrong? I had it submerged the entire time until the gasket was in place. The only thing i can think of is that the seal on the inside isn't perfect anymore (maybe a tiby bit warped?) because I've made a lot of mistakes and had to redo this step multiple times with different methods. Each globe looks beautiful, except they all have little bubbles with some snow attached at the top that aren't going away. I have ordered a syringe so when it arrives, I think I will try to get rid of those bubbles with that before sealing the bottom and attaching to the base.
Hi. We have had that problem before. We get all of the air bubbles out then next thing we know these little bubbles show up. Once the figurine is out of the globe air can get into places and sometimes a small air bubble or two doesn't come out until later. Also, we have seen instances where tiny bubbles will cling to the figurine and release later. We think submerging the globe under water is still the best way to go. It sounds like you installed the stopper while the globe is under water and normally that works fine if you don't have those hidden little air bubbles. Professionals have vacuum chambers and vibrating tables to work all of the air bubbles out. What we do is we install the stopper first and make sure it all looks good, then we put the globe upside down under water and pull back on the stopper to release the air. Then we let it sit for a while, then we shake it up and tap it with our knuckles to try to release any bubbles then we put it back under the water and pull back on the stopper and let the new bubbles out. We do that until there are no bubbles left. You can do that now and get those new bubble out of your globe then let is sit and if any additional bubbles show up do it again. If they continue to show up after that then you may have a poorly fitting stopper. You can either replace the stopper or once you get the last of the air bubbles out, leave the globe upside down, dry the stopper and seal it with hot glue before any air can leak in. Good luck!
Thank you! I was able to use the syringe a few days later and get those little bubbles out. Some of them took 2 or 3 tries, but they're all good! Thank you for this advice. I might try that if I ever do these again (which may not happen as this was a lot of work, mistakes, and patience! 🤣)
I do have one that I did yesterday (several days after the others because I broke the original globe I had for it when trying to put in the stopper. 🤦♀️) I used the same things as all the others- distilled water, alcohol, glycerin, snow bits and glitter from National Artcraft. But the water is cloudy. I was out of town when the other ones were settling, so I'm wondering - will the cloudy water clear as it settles, or is it more likely that I accidentally got something impure in there? I did reuse the water for the submersion technique that I had used in the other globes, but it was all the same substances, so I wouldn't think that was a problem, even though there was glitter and snow bits in it (I had poured it back into the bottles that I had bought the water in and then dumped it into my big pan when I was ready to submerge it). I'm hoping it just needs to settle because I have had to redo these so many times and I just want them to be done. Lol Our family Christmas is this weekend so they need to be done already! 😂 Thank you for all your tips!
We're glad to hear that you are making progress. The cloudy water may clear once everything settles but the next time you shake it up the stuff that made the water cloudy and settled may make the water cloudy again. The question is why is the water cloudy in the first place. Everything you put in the globe sounds fine. Not sure how much glycerine you used but I don't think excessive glycerine would cloud the water. Maybe some residue came off of the snow. May need to rinse the snow just to be sure but none of what you did sounds like it would result in cloudy water. Hopefully you can determine the source. Good luck!
We found the ring magnets on Amazon. The problem is you have to buy them in lots of 20 and 30. We don't need that many and there are different sizes. The next time we have a magnetic impeller issue we will measure the magnet and try ordering from Amazon and see what happens.

The dog on the tv is Thunderbolt and in the 101 Dalmatians movie all the family watches the show together - hence this snowglobe 😅
We should probably watch the movies before we fix the globes! Thanks for clarifying that. Neither of us has seen the movie since we were children.
So you still haven't found the impeller to fix the battery or the magnet after trying to fix alice globe 2 years wow
We found the ring magnets on Amazon. The problem is you have to buy them in lots of 20 and 30. We don't need that many and there are different sizes. The next time we have a magnetic impeller issue we will measure the magnet and try ordering from Amazon and see what happens.

Hi Hillary! Yes, the sun may have discolored the figurine. We have seen the sun discolor the water so the figurine may have been affected as well. Thunderbolt! I recognized the dog but I couldn't remember from where. It makes sense that they are watching that show. Thank you for sharing that information!
