It is common for dogs in season to be moody and want more cuddle time. The time that they are most likely to be able to conceive is after the red blood when the discharge turns brown or straw colored - that is the time when most people think the female is ending her heat and that is when she is able to conceive. What I am not familiar with is an 11 YEAR OLD female dog coming in season. Please ask your vet about what you are seeing so as to ensure this is not a symptom of some other issue. I use powers in food for NuVet Plus and FortiFlora when puppies are eating mushy foods because their teeth have not fully come in. Once a puppy is able to eat hard food then you can switch to the wafer form of both and use it as a training treat - I break them into 1/4 so I get 4 "treats" out of one wafer. Thank you 😊

Hello Kimberly, I'd wait a month after her first heat cycle is complete. So schedule the spay for 2 months after you see the first sign (blood) that she is in heat. The first heat is usually not as obvious - meaning not a much blood and swelling as the following ones so sometimes people miss the first one because the female keeps herself so clean. This is why having dogs sleep on a white sheet or bedding can be very helpful. Thank you.

Yes, different breeders do the tail docking in different ways and lengths - there isn't a "standard" and there couldn't be because we don't know the puppy's growth pattern when we are docking the tails at 2 - 3 days old. I use my own pointer finger as the guide for all puppies and pray I've gotten it right ❤️😍 Thank you Arlene 😘

Thank you for sharing about your dogs and cats - this helps to set expectations that they may not be best friends but they can enjoy being in their home together. My friend Kim (the one who has 5 of my dogs) also has 2 cats. Her cats love being in the room with the dogs and will cuddle if everything is right - meaning everyone is being relaxed. But if one of the dogs gets the zoomies the cats leave the room immediately.

Ears are cropped if you are going to show a dog and try to take them to champion in AKC shows. You can show an unaltered dog their 1st year.

I understand. Where i lived and had gotten my pup, I couldn't find a vet that would crop her ears. After she turned 11 weeks, i couldn't do it because I didn't want to cause her pain. I am thinking about showing a pup and she will have the ears clipped. I like the look of both for different reasons.​@@JanisAllen-vx6fl

Thank you Margo! Lucy would benefit from meeting your groomer first with just having a bath and a blow dry in the salon. A bath every 3 weeks is a good goal. You could set it up that you bathe her and then 3 weeks later she goes to the groomer. Then 3 weeks after she is at the groomer you bathe her and 3 weeks after that she goes to the groomer. Lucy is used to clippers moving across her body so when it does come time for clippers to be used she will be ready. Thank you ❤️

Hello, The "Places" Beds - I can say, "Places Everyone" and they all go jump on the bed 😂 When we are training puppies it creates a wonderful boundary - structure. When 6 week old puppies first begin they know we are doing something special when they are put on the places bed. It helps them realize this is training time. Watch along and you will see when we transition them to coming off the places bed to do their routines. Hope you enjoy my videos!

Hello Cindy, Libby's tail is the same length as her siblings! They are still in the Teddy Bear groom style so the inch and a half of hair on them masks the lenght of their tail. Libby's tail is 1.5 inches long. She is a very young puppy and she is tiny - she will grow into her tail! I personally don't like a tiny nub of a tail that you can't see wagging - I want the tail to show me when the dog is very happy so I have my vet dock them with the thought that they will be about 10 lbs and they will need a tail that shows off when they are wagging or afraid. Libby's tail is perfect for her body! (And you may recall I was the one who groomed her - well I left 1/2 inch of coat on the end of her tail because a puppy can move very quickly and I do the final tip of the tail with sissors - I never want to cut a dog when I am grooming it. The reason we put Libby into this cut was so her mom, Patricia, could pick her out and realize when she was in a video. But at that time I said it was not a perfect schnauzer cut - it was to distinguish Sugar and Libby quickly. I promise Anne will do the final groom on Libby before she has her Gotcha Day and then she will be very well groomed!

None of my dogs that live here are afraid either and I think that also helps teach the puppies that are here in Puppy Prep School because they watch their pack and mothers to see what normal behavior is. This is why I would never want or allow someone to take a puppy super early (before 8 weeks old) - little puppies need to see what great behavior looks like from the pack they live with! Yes, Julie, we build their confidence and ability to focus by doing "stay" inside in a safe, secure place first. Once they can do a trust worthy "stay" for 3 - 5 minutes indoors, then we graduate to a place they know outside. Eventually we build up to taking them to a new place, like Home Depo, and we practice "Stay" in a public place with new people and other dogs walking by. You can do this too with your boy by building on what he has learned with us! Thank you!
