I make 7 meat loves a month. I always blend my eggs & Sea weed. I use chicken Livers (2 lb) and 2 pounds of (90%) beef, turkey, chicken, turmeric, garlic, flax seed, lg. can of pumpkin, 3 lb of carrots, 3 lb broccoli, 1 pound of squash, 1 lb sweet potatoes 3 lb of fruit. I grind up the veg, and fruit, blend it to all the meat. Takes me 3 to 4 hours, which cooking at a low temp (300 degrees) and I totally know what is in the food. It is a labor of love. And also they get yogurt and when I do my breakfast a half of egg, because they eat by 8 and I eat at 11.
I watch some vets from Canada. I have been feeding my meat loves for 6 years. Also I add brown rice cooked, just about 2 cups to my mixture, certain spices. I freeze all and I thaw when needed. I will have to try Ginger. (I grow sweet potatoes so they get those as well). They get bones!!!! All get protein treats and bully sticks. (They gross me out....but). Love to see what you prepare. Thank you my dear!!!!!❤. I have a mini black schnauzer Pepi and a toy rescue Ellie.

Hi Shawn! I’m excited to hear that you’ll be doing more in depth videos in regards to homemade food. I will definitely be tuning in.
I’ve fed my dogs homemade for over a decade but was never fully confident in the nutritional balance so I fed a mixed diet of homemade, dehydrated food, and freeze dried raw. I won’t go into detail about recipes and ingredients because I am no expert, but the one thing I would recommend for anyone making their own food is “variety.” Change up the proteins, organ meats, vegetables, and fruits in all of the batches. Feed a rainbow of colors. Don’t get stuck on just one recipe, one protein, same vegetables. Of course, this advice is for dogs who have no food allergies.
One thing that I have learned over the past year…having my dogs used to variety and different foods (including commercial dog food) was one of the best things I ever did. I struggled with my senior dog who got sick and lost her appetite. Some days she just wanted homemade. Other days she would only eat freeze dried. Some days she would only eat boiled chicken. And on bad days I had to hand feed The Honest Kitchen’s dehydrated goop. She was used to all of it so no stomach problems. Having different options on hand (and already part of their diet) can be truly a life saver.
Can’t wait to see more in depth discussion / knowledge about this topic on your channel. I’m not a Schnauzer mom but I do love your channel 💛😊🐾

Thanks for the info on your feeding philosophy. Here are some comments, which are intended to be "thoughtful, kind, and considerate," as you said, from a fellow lover of Wordle, Spelling Bee, and Connections. :) I think many people will lack the time, energy, motivation, or money to feed their dogs as you showed. It's a lot to do and a lot to keep track of to ensure it's healthy and balanced. I can see why many would choose commercial food for its ease and cost and for peace of mind. (Or why they'd do as I do--feed mostly commercial, supplemented with some home-cooked food.) Personally, I do not have an issue in principle with kibble. The possible presence of pesticides does worry me, but I don't know how much is in kibble vs. other foods, nor do I see a lot of what I'd consider reputable info on this (that is, not from blog posts (depending on authorship) or Facebook groups). Are chemicals in kibble thought to be from packaging or from how it's grown? Some of the food in the video didn't appear to be organic, so couldn't it also have pesticides? I'd love it if someone could point me to unbiased info on kibble on this front, or really any front. I'm also not clear on why dogs need human-grade food--high-quality food, yes, but I'm not sure why it has to meet human-grade standards. I think a lot of the movement away from kibble is driven by marketing from fresh food companies. But I don't think processing is inherently bad. All kinds of foods are, technically, processed. Home-made food that goes in the freezer is processed. So I think with kibble, as with many foods, there's a big range. I'm sure much is ultraprocessed and unhealthy. But I think some is high quality. I would LOVE to hear from veterinary nutrition experts on your channel.
I make a stew similar to yours that I blend with water and use to coat the kibble and to stuff into Kongs and licky mats. I also make a lot of homemade liver and salmon treats in silicone pyramid mats--still working on how to get them to release well (sometimes they come right out, sometimes it's a struggle). My dog loves red peppers, carrots, sweet potato, and bananas. I often give him a little hard-boiled or scrambled egg. His favorite seems to be anything with liver. And cream cheese--the best way I've found to get him to take meds. :-)

Thank you for sharing this! Yes! I am going to reach out to some of the experts I listen to and allow to influence me to invite them to join me for a conversation. I appreciate your perspective. At first I also questioned the motive for kibble bashing and thought it was motivated by fresh food makers and then I started seeing more facts in a variety of forums and national news that caused me to think this was a bigger issue. Then 2 dogs I know (that don't live in my home) started having the common symptoms that are described before a dog has serious issues (blood in stool and throwing up blood) - one of these dogs spent a week at Quakertown Vet Hospital and the other one was there for 2 days. Once taken off the dry kibble and put onto the foods you see me having my dogs eat, these 2 dogs survived. There are hundreds of examples of this I have seen and I just don't want to be a statistic in that scenario with a dog that isn't thriving. My dogs are more alert and brighter on this new food routine and I enjoy doing it so I will keep doing this until I find a better kibble that I can incorporate into what I am now feeding. THANK YOU! More to come on this topic.

Just wanted to say, I enjoy watching your video with your fur babies. I have 2 miniature schnauzers Kooper and Ginger. Ginger just gave birth to her first litter of 6 (3 males and 3 females). My dogs diet consist of ground turkey, beef liver, fresh sweet potatoes and carrots, frozen green beans, spinach, and peas, and rice in an Instant Pot. Once everything is done I add coconut oil, turmeric, and ground egg shells. I make waffles that consist of ripped banana, peanut butter, oatmeal and egg. They eat fresh fruit. They love when I cook, when I give them kibble it takes them a minute to eat it. I just purchased a book with over 120+ recipes for my babies and can't wait to try something different.
I don't know if I can or if you want to name of the book that I purchased. I would gladly give you that information.

I rotate Juliette's protein using 97/3 ground turkey, ground pork, ground beef with organ meat, salmon and will be adding ground lamb to her diet. The vegetable I rotate between is butternut squash and asparagus with she loves, cauliflower, carrots, fresh spinach, yellow squash, zucchini, peas, green beans, fresh broccoli, celery, peppers (any color) and brussel spouts. Apples, blueberries, strawberries, bananas, pears are also rotated. When preparing the food I always add either turkey or beef Primal bone broth that has extra nutrients in it and add fresh eggs to my mixture.
My favorite person to watch is Dr. Judy Morgan and have purchased and read several of her books. Dr. Judy Morgan's book Yin and Yang of Dogs food is an excellent book of what you can feed your dog and also has numerous recipes in it.
I have also tried several of the subscriptions human grade dog food, gently cooked dog food, air dried foods, dehydrated foods. Since I am very concerned on what goes into my dog food and how fresh it is I love the option of making the food myself. My backup plan Is Dr. Havey's Paradigm Green Superfood or Raw Vibrance Superfoods blends.
The Nuvet Plus, Omega 3 fish oil and real mushrooms blend goes into her daily diet. Juliette's favorite toppers is finely grinded cheese, Northwest Natural freeze dried goat cheese or their freeze dried Salmon Shiitake and Maitake Mushrooms. For me going into the kitchen and cooking for Juliette is one of the small expressions of showing her the love I have her her. After over 13 years of cooking for my animals I cannot image going back to kibble in any form.

Maui and Moanna love your stew! I cook the Costco beef as well, with 3 big sweet potatoes, and a whole package of chopped green beans and blueberry or apple. I add 1 can of pumpkin puree and last week I started adding 2 T quinoa per pound of meat for added protein. I’m really trying not to buy kibble!!!! The stories are so scary, and until they start regulating dog food like human food…I’ll be cooking for my pups.
    Things I’m adding as toppers:
-I rehydrate Vital Essentials freeze dried raw duck, rabbit or turkey (human grade with organ meat. Maui enjoys it, but Moanna gets runny stools from it. Is she too young for raw?
-I also just bought Spot Farm human grade freeze dried food and rehydrated that and added to the stew. I’m looking for allergies with this chicken so they’re only getting about a teaspoon every meal. An 8 lb box makes 32 lbs
LAST BUT NOT LEAST…they each get 1/2 teaspoon of nu vet plus and forta flora probiotic
I’ll keep you updated on the Spot Farm. It’s just nice to have some food on hand in case I run out of cooked food.
