I'm getting an NKP RS11 later this week, and as mentioned by another commenter, ky fictional railroad has a few of these. They were quickly retired, and sold off in favor of newer EMD & GE options, but 2 managed to find them selves back on the roster after a buy out of the eailroad's eastern sister. Black Hills and Front Range(or Black Hills Southern, or BHFR) had 5 units, however, they didn't much like -50° during the winter. The road numbers were 1156, 1157, 1158, 1159, and 1160, those numbers now are for BHFR's new fleet of ET44AC’s, which will be replacing the older EMD & GE road units, mainly SD45's, C40-8's, and earlier GE 6 axle units. The SD45's will be going onto the Lima, Portland & Eastern, in Ohio, the same railroad those two RS11's came from.
Fascinating my friend. What scale?
With the access of CSX getting there SD70ACE in 2004
Baldwin DT66-2000 centercab transfer locos
it's shocking you're the only railroad youtuber with this type of video up about this locomotive
Please do the U28B I have a photo you can use
Thanks for the suggestion Fell free to email me the image if you’d like, would you liked to be credited and if so, how would you like to be credited?
@ironhorsehistorian9871 yes I would liked to be credited
@@ironhorsehistorian9871 and honestly it's your choice how to credit me
Personally I’d prefer to credit wherever I get images as you can tell by my video bibliographies, I just feel it’d be wrong not to credit
@@ironhorsehistorian9871 no I mean HOW to credit me
GUYS, COME ON! a single GG1 could at least be restored to operation, just please....
interesting loco !
Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway 2-8-8-4 ("Yellowstone" type) articulated steam locomotive built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in Phila., PA.
The Monon! I was born too late to see them in person.
I remember as a kid seeing the EL-3's in new haven stripes in Ridgewood, queens, nyc during the mid 1960's hauling freight on the bay ridge, Brooklyn line, the power of those electric s was awesome!-my first impression of railfanning, thanks!
Undoubtedly the best designed and most recognized electric locomotive ever produced. 🚂
I love the C liner!!!!
I have an HO scale BL-2 painted in C & O livery. Got it back in the early '70's.
Wow, what a tour to go on.
It's pronounced, "Ahh roo stuck"
Flying Scotsman being towed by GG1s actually happened in 1969, not the 1970s.
The NRs have Kocknum Sonics MKT75 5 chime horns
Thank you for taking the time to watch my video and leaving an informative comment. Hope to see you again in a future comment section.
Also judging by your PFP you know more about this class of engine better than a Yankee like me. Are there any sources you can recommend regarding Australian engines?
Well, NR33 was in a level crossing incident it was hit by a truck in low visibility conditions, and the containers crushed NR33 and completely destroyed it which NR33 was subsequently written off after an inspection of how viable a return to service would be
I do recall seeing that during my research.
I heard they had frame problems, preventing restoration
I have many miles in a U-18B on the SCL. The engine had a lighter weight and could go on the 220,000 Lb branch lines, which are all gone today. If you wanna see some U18B's in action check out Pickens railroad, there painted the orange MOW color.
The Delaware Lackawanna and Western had 6 H16-44s. They became part of the Erie Lackawanna after the merger. They were sold to the CHP in Mexico around 1965 or 66.
My last 6 months of engines service, I operated these techno-turds. I cursed every mile I went with that computer on wheels. I ran the "trash eights" out of LA until I went to zone 5 to finish my career running VRE commuter trains in and out of DC. It was sitting in a pill box or a bunker. Jan. 4, 2011 was my last run on train #95 to Richmond, VA. Turned it on the wye at Acca YD, then parked it at the Staples Mill Rd. station. I wanted to piss on the thing, but people were watching. My first run of my career was on a GG1 as a fireman on a passenger train, I ended it on another GE.
I ran many SD45's. I ran the "Hustle Muscle" twice out of Denver on the Joint Line. The ex GN SD45's were only 368,000 lbs. They were flat land screamers, but they were not mountain goats. The wheel slip light always flickering going up hill out of Denver. The wheel slip light would would flicker while in dynamic braking. The SP SD45's weighed from 403,950 to 413,870 lbs. These were mountain mashers.
1:37 Weight is 230,000 pounds, not 55,000
What song(s) are in the opening and ending of this video? I’m really enjoying binging these videos! Great info! Whoo whoo
Great stuff! @ 2:40 love those colors! I really like the high short hood GPs!
Years ago there was a plan to restore/display 2 of these at a small rail museum in Otsego County, NY. I believe they are rusting on an overgrown siding off of Route 7 in Cooperstown Junction, NY (just NorthEast of Colliersville, and Oneonta. If you look on Google Earth, 42degrees-29’41” N and 74degrees-57’55”W, you can just make out one of the hulks under the trees. There is some rolling stock there as well.
👍
Detroit And Mackinac/LAKE STATE had an ex L.I. C420, no. 976 which was scrapped due to fire damage.
Ridin' on the GG1 locomotive/Penn Central Monday mornin' rail/15 cars and 150 restless riders/3 conductors and 25 sacks of mail/All along the westbound odessey/The train pulls out of Grand Central and rolls along past NYC buildings and fields (OK, I'm no Steve Goodman)
The electrical components (in particular, the transformers) of the GG1 used PCB's, which are now banned, so the components would need a lot of design and construction to replace, more than museums could afford. They are not likely to ever ride the rails again.
Thank you for the video on the Allegheny (2-6-6-6) as it is my favorite locomotive and as you said, railfans of the Allegheny can dream of a restoration or possibly a brand new Allegheny if one of the remaining steam Loco builders would build it and if there was money to build it.
Thank you for the video. The Allegheny (2-6-6-6) is my favorite steam
The First GP7 ever made is CNW 1518, Built in October 1949
Fairbanks Morse’s Erie Built & C-Liner locomotives look great, and if I ever do HO model trains, I will have Fairbanks Morse Cab Units.
I know Tyco had some C-liners, maybe Life Like as well. I’d do a little bit of research
PRR tested the E33's but the interfered with the Pennsy's Trainphone. They were sold to the New Haven instead. When PC was forced to take over the NH, they became part of their electric fleet. They used mercury Ignitron tubes ( not ignition ) to convet the AC to DC. Conrail investigated replacing their electric fleet, and tested 2 locomotives ( the GM6C and GM10B), but decided to shift as much traffic as possible off of Amtrak lines, as well as taking down the wire or abandoning the other electrified portions.
Wondeful locomotive ❤
The original experimental unit was designed to have 8 750HP 408 series engines. Each one was self contained with integral cooling system and main generator. The power pac ( my term) could be lifted out and replaced quickly in case of a problem( Way ahead of it's time). Due to restrictions, only 4 were installed. It was tested on the B&O between Philly and Elsmere Jct, De. The post-war version used 2 1500HP 608SC prime movers in place of the 408's. Intended as single units, PRR ordered theirs as Semi-permanently coupled pairs. PRR derated them to 2500HP each ( 5000HP per pair) after they moved them to freight then finally helper service. Pennsy did experience traction motors overheating problems in helper service out of Altoona on the Horseshoe Curve. In the early 1950's, NdeM sent theirs back to Eddystone, where they were upgraded with 608A prime movers, but keeping their 1500HP rating.
I love old locomotives❤❤❤ SD 7 is wondeful.
That locomotive so strange
Are there any locomotives that can run of patographs or Diesel powered electric? It would seem like a better solution than the battery electric locomotives you hear about.
Battery electric is fake technology. They simply cannot match overhead line electrification.
Very late to a party. Electro-diesel locomotives exist, but they have higher running costs as they need to carry redundant equipment and their horsepower in diesel mode is much smaller compared to a regular diesel. Thus they have always been built only for niche and very specific applications.
Awesome i wish some one would do one on the E-33 virginian,,,,
Already done my friend. Check out my video on the EL-C. Posted back in 2021 :)
Too bad the railroads of the Americas (it's not just the US and not even just North America) almost all de-electrify whenever they can. Unfortunately this was not one of the few exceptions. One nit: Early in the video you mention rectifier technology, but the EL-2C locomotives used motor-generators, as you correctly state a bit before 2 minutes.
Interesting observation. Thx for watching :)
Super. I love all six of the different C-Liners, four or five axle. 💙T.E.N.
Do the sd40-2
Better add that to the que my friend. Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching.
They have one at the Henry ford museum!
You do realize there's only one M1 Mountain type left right only one was saved one of the tenders were also say that it's not being used for the T1 project
Southern Pacific and Cotton Belt both owned SD45T-2's alongside the SD40T-2's as mentioned. The 20-645E7's in the SD45T-2's versus the 16-645E3's in the SD40T-2's always broke crankshafts. The same problem existed on the SD45's,SD45-2's,FP45's/F45's,SDP45's,and SD45M's. This is why both railroads were rebuilding the units as SD45T-2R's just like the SD45's that became SD45R's with 16-645E3's. After the merge most of the rebuilt tunnel motors were redesignated as SD40T-2's on Union Pacific's roster. In 2008 during the economy crash Union Pacific sold large fleets of the SD45T-2R's among other units but certain SD40T-2's were also involved. The two largest aquires of tunnel motors post merge were KCS and DMIR. The tunnel motors actually remain in class one usage under Canadian National with DMIR reporting marks and most of the units have been rebuilt as SD40T-3's.
I have 2 Fairbanks-Morse models in HO scale. One is a FM 12-44 and the other is a FM 15-44 all in the Central of Georgia livery. Cheers from eastern TN
More engines of 🇦🇺
I’ll see what I can do
