Great informative content. At 1.45 you referred to them as c-c wheel arrangement. This is a classification usually used for diesel hydraulics or any other loco with just one traction motor driving all 3 axels on one bogey. They’re actually referred to as a Co-Co wheel arrangement where there is 3 traction motors for each axel in each bogey. I remember when they were introduced they were actually black banned for a short time due to cabins being considered unsafe, dangerous pointy intrusions etc, minor stuff. They went on to be really useful engines. Although way more powerful and heavier than anything that preceded them on VR. Keep it up.🇦🇺 1:45

Ah the memories of the C's. C510 in the early 90's had a noisy turbo and was louder than the rest. Always knew when it was in the depot.
They were numbered 501 to 510 and were referred to as C 5 oh **. Had a foreman in the workshop make the mistake of calling C510 5 oh 10 once.
From that day on till the day he retired he would be reminded every time it came in.

The track Melbourne to Adelaide was broad gauge all the way (no change at the border). It was later changed to standard to allow trains to run from Perth to Melbourne without a gauge change.
The standard gauge referred to in the video ran from Melbourne to Sydney (not Adelaide). It was built in the 1960's from Albury to Melbourne, eliminating the change at the Victorian and NSW border.
The two GM locos as shown at the start of the video were actually "Commonwealth Railways" locos. The Victorian locos were designated "S Class" painted Blue and Gold, They were rated at 1800 HP. I think all the Victorian S Class locos were converted from broad gauge to standard when the standard line opened to allow through running to Sydney.

All 10 C Class were fitted with the 5 chime Leslie super Typhoon horns, later some were fitted with the Nathan horns.

The first 9 S Class ran on Standard gauge to the Victorian border where they were bogie exchanged(trucks for US viewers) to 5'3" broad gauge. The 2nd batch ran right though after the standard gauge line opened between Albury and Melbourne in 1962.

Commonwealth railways loaned the VR several locos for a few years.

There are quite a few holes in your video. National Rail Corporation had all the C class from the early 1990’s until they disposed of them to Silverton Rail in the early 2000’s after long term storage at Junee with the exception of C501 which went to Seymour Heritage Rail.
Silverton Rail reactivated a number of them and renumbered them into the Silverton numbering system as the “Cs” class, hence Cs4, Cs5 etc.
After Silverton Rail was amalgamated with other companies the remaining fleet then went to CFCLA, SSR etc

C classes never had Nathan K horns. They are all started with Leslie S5T horns however C502 and C503 have Nathan new cast p5 horns. Some of the other C's i.e. 504, 505, 507 and 508 were upgraded to Leslie RS5T horns.
    C501, 506, 509 and 510 retain their original Leslie S5T horns

"C" class locomotive weight is just on 134 tonnes, not 135 as mentioned in the video, 134 tonnes is the maximum weight allowed for all locomotives on the standard gauge ARTC network for intermodal, general and express freight working (Brisbane-Sydney-Melbourne-Adelaide-Perth). Heavier weights are allowed on the Hunter Valley NSW coal network only.
