THE EMD GP30 IS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR AND MOST DISTINCTIVE DIESEL LOCOMOTIVES IN THE WORLD. VERY POPULAR WITH RAILFANS, MODELERS, AND COLLECTOR EVERYWHERE. I LOVE THESE POPULAR LOCOMOTIVES..
They were rebuilt to a GP39-2 standard, but in that compact body/chassis. Remember, the GP30 is much shorted than the later GP38 series. The GP39 series had a 12-cyl and not the standard 16-cyl of their cousins GP38 and GP40 series (hence why the 39 rest in between). That's why it's classified as a GP39RN.

Never saw a high hood before. Cool.
The Emd GP30 is my second favorite Geep, besides the GP38-2

The reading and northern have some ,but are now classified as gp39RN. I guess they are just interiorly a gp39 , but the gp30 outside.
