In my opinion, the dash 9 is the most popular dash series ever
I don't Railfan like I did in my early 20's (1971-79) but I had no trouble telling one loco from another as I do today. At least many roads put the model on the cab. I lived next to, and partly on, what is now known as NJT Bergen line. But the EL days had Alco, FM, GE, and EMD power. I took hundreds of 35 mm slides back then but I have no idea where they are now. I didn't throw them out I just don't know where they are.
I'll have to look for these. A lot of NS goes through my area.
Most of them are still in service, NS has some in storage though
2:06 This is mostly incorrect.
CSXs C44-9Ws (Actually C40-9Ws) came with K5LAs for the most part.
NS's have K5LAs, but a select few have K5HLs, 9823 has a K5LLA, and 2 others have RS5Ts
BNSF's have K3LAs for the most part.
CN's had K3Ls, K5HLs, and some other weird horns mixed in
UPs had K3LAs and RS3Ls
To be honest this guy is wrong about the engines with the Lower engine ditch lights! They are actually dash 8s!
The dash 9s came with mostly K5Hs and K5LAs with some RRs putting K3LAs, P3s and K3Ls on em. The K5HLs were put on the newer ES44ACs and DCs. Also the only RR whos made AC44C4Ms was BNSF the rest are technically AC44C6Ms or CWMs. GEs ES44AC was SUPPOSED to replace the AC4400CW while they also tried producing ES44DCs to replace the dash 9s but don't quote me on it I believe the FRA made it a rule to only buy AC traction power. Hence why only 3 North American RRs (NS, CSX, and CN) ever had the DC traction version of the ES44AC. Also don't forget NS was the ONLY buyer of the unique standard cab C40-9.
You forgot BNSF
The fact that UP repainted the twins just for them to be put back into storage 💀
Does anyone know how many tons a dash 9 is capable of pulling on flat terrain?
It would be 65 miles per hour for lacking AC
Cnw dash 8 & 9 were the best too bad they're are all repainted
