Great video. I grew up in coal country in WV. Growing up we had 7-8 coal mines operating. Coal trains all the time. Now there is only one mine open and still coal trains 3x a day. Keep up the good work. It is important that people realize that America was built by coal miners, farmers, loggers and steel workers. Without them you don’t have energy, food or buildings. Thanks for sharing.

Though that prep plant building may be old, I am sure inside it has the latest machinery. Prep plants have come a long way from the 70s when you'd see screens/crushers, cyclones and thats about it. They have magnetic separators, flotation cells... and of course the crushers and cyclones are hi-tech and of course low emissions.

Only knew the speed because it was an older EMU where the driver cab had a window into the passenger cabin so I could see the speedometer. Because of course id sit up there to see how it was operated.

Funny how "back in the day" we lamented these "modern" loadouts vs. the old windowed tipples with coal company logos painted on the side. Now, they are the stuff nostalgia is made of. Don't forget to appreciate the coal hoppers. Where I live, it is nearly 100% round bottom coal gondolas. That high-bannered switch stand is also unheard of up this way (northern West Virginia). Nice job. The dreary winter day makes it even better!

Trains are a very needed thing for industry and passengers in the USA. Our coal fields here where I am are not as productive as they once were. Most of tracks have been removed. In the rural areas they are just walking and 4 wheel trails and in the small municipalities and small cities they have been turned to walking and bicycling trails. Still have an active dead end spur that crosses the Ohio river to Benwood WV where the steel mill used to be owned by B&O.Those trains put me to sleep at night crossing that bridge and there were tracks to the Bellaire Ohio loading docks from the Penn Central and the B&O railroad less than a block from my home and huge turntable was in the field 2 blocks away. I walk my dog daily where that round house used to be.

Very well done: great photography and audio (excepting the wind in the pacing shot), tight editing, excellent subtitles and no attempt to “play-by-play” voiceover narrate…or worse, play canned music. I’m amused by the introduction, as well; the moon landing-worthy soundtrack strikes one as a bit pretentious. A minor point, however…I stand behind this as an example to others in the hobby.

@@railfanmicahturner. I think we all hate our voices when we hear them played back. Your voice is not bad. Go for it and narrate your videos. Give something that your kids and grandkids can remember you by.

Hey, I got a great suggestion for you very nice looking real fanning video but two strikes against you or maybe one take your damn writing that you write maybe leave it up on the screen a little bit longer but the main part structure your editing and put it up on top of the video so you can pause the video and you can read it instead of at the bottom of the screen when you pause a ton of other video clips and thumbnails come up and block it so you can’t read anything I know you can fix it. Maybe I’m not the only one that complained about it but maybe I am. Let me tell you it looks like you have a lot to say I wish I could read it.

Engine 440, I have seen that engine passing through Jacksonville on the tracks that runs along HWY US17 on into Orange park Florida. That train goes down to the coal power plant somewhere down in Miami Dade County.
