Deadly Chemistry Experiments
Today I discuss some very famous cases of deadly chemistry experiments. Some of these are from lab safety mishaps and issues with procedures and some involve dangers that weren't even known to exist at the time they happened. Throughout the chemistry major and many science careers there is hundreds of hours spent int he lab and this video serves as a reminder that science work can be dangerous if proper precautions are not taken. Stay safe out there and I hope you like it!

    When I taught general chemistry 1 lab, it wasn't a high school class. My students did chemistry after lab 3. High school was 3 hours away and they thought it was chill that I didn't require them to sign a sheet of paper to leave the class.

    Most people think chemistry is organic chemistry, okay that's probably true. The only thing I learned in biochemistry is how to spell my name with amino acids. The mechanical engineering cop at K state and I were talking in the art history museum about how reading ingredients labels at the store was the only part of my high school chemistry education we're able to talk about directly.

    I'm a software design undergrad and am looking to create a game that will hopefully include accurate chemical reactions for creating in-game items. I want to understand chemistry more before I even attempt the full plunge, but a hypothetical: if a game/simulation is designed to procedurally transform objects based upon the laws of chemistry (I didn't want to list everything), would the hypothetical environment's rendering have any use as a possible teaching aid? An Example possible experiment being a copper sulfate solution with a copper and zinc bar for anode/cathode, with explorable animations showing electron transfer and the formation of "debris" on the bars in the solution, along with easy to understand details.

    My first degree was in chemistry and the jobs don't pay nothing. Graduated in 2004 never made more than 41k. PhDs at Proctor and Gamble were not even making 100k unless they got 2 promotions or more. I went back to school for nursing and I make more than the average PhD chemist according to this.

    Took chem 42, failed exams and dropped, took again over summer, barely got a c, now I'm in Chem 3a and bombed first two exams, will not have to drop and take it again. Hardest part for me is knowing how to rearrange the equations and remember how to put them to use. Organic chem is so much easier for me to understand and I literally watch five lectures in a row no problem. How the hell do I get through Chem 3a and 3b?! I am so bad at math but I understand everything else. Any tips?

    Sharing my experience so far: I graduated with a BA in chemistry may 2023 and originally felt going into higher education was not for me. I applied to jobs left and right, but received no offerings…which resulted in me feeling like i needed to continue on to my masters, even though I didn’t have a specific field of chemistry i wanted to go into. I took the fall semester to apply to different programs and ended up getting into a masters in chemistry online which fit well with my work schedules. Since it is not focused on a specific type of chemistry, I’m taking courses that I’ve taken in undergrad, just extra beefed and I honestly find myself feeling super unhappy and like i’m just repeating the years of undergrad. I can see a positive side of it, which is that this program is helping further solidify my foundation. but Im spending all this money on something I feel won’t help me. I almost want to do a complete change and get out of the chemistry field, but what stops me is all of the years of work sweat and tears i’ve put in . + my family is very supportive of my chemistry path and I wouldnt want to to let them down. I guess I’m in a “I don’t even know what to do” state. do I quit and find a program that will focus on a specified side of chemistry or try to dive into the job search again (I still have been applying to various positions)? or switch paths on something entirely different? or stay and push through? I guess i needed a place to vent so thanks if you’re reading this.

  • @yanguangzhang7258
    @yanguangzhang7258 5 месяцев назад

    When you said "the rigor that comes out of it", do you mean that chemistry is the hardest of the 3? From what I found, physics undergrad is harder, in fact, probably the hardest science degree. I had a double degree in physics and chemistry, and physics was 3 times more challenging than chemistry.
