  • We are coming up on a new semester of college and freshman to upperclassman alike are starting to prepare for classes. Here are some of my tips I've learned through my years as a chemistry major on how to set the foundations of a great semester. The first few weeks of the semester are where you create your habits for classes and it really can make or break the amount of work in each of your chemistry classes. Hopefully some of these tips can give you a refresher on how to start a semester off or you'll learn some new stuff on making the most of your chemistry classes.

    Thank you for this. I’m starting chemistry (in the UK though) but I’m worried about job prospects after the degree. Any job ideas?

      There is always grad school if you want to go into research but outside of that there are plenty of STEM positions that aren’t necessarily titled “chemist”. I actually have a video titled “Chemistry Major | What can you do with it” that covers this if you want to check it out!

    how early fo you recommend to get into research. In my school research positions are fairly easy to get into but im just a first-year so I don't quite feel prepared yet

      I’d totally recommend getting into research as soon as possible! Even as a freshman you’ll learn a whole ton in lab and they will teach you what you need to know! (As long as your research is with a professor)

    Hello Zahl! I would like to ask if what are the books that are best as the foundation on cumulative knowledge in Chemistry?

      openstax has 2 general chemistry books for free! For organic chem I really like "Organic chemistry as a second language"

    hi zahl i would like to ask when is the best time to start trying to do undergraduate research ? like i mean at what year second third etc ? just concerned cause im pretty sure i wouldnt know enough stuff at the first year ^^'

    • @zahlazizi
      @zahlazizi  2 года назад +2

      You can totally start research in your first year! I am actually just about to release a video about this but professors generally like having people who can stay in their lab and learn the ins and outs over years. Freshman will have a whole 4 years to learn in their lab which is better than seniors who are just about to graduate.

      @@zahlazizi thanks for you're answer i really appreciate it'll help me a lot! but is it like i choose one research lab with a professor and if i was able to get in stay there the whole 4 years or am i able to choose something different like a lab or a professor with a different research topic ?

      You can totally hop around labs if you find a lab more suited to your interests! Especially if you start early you could be in one lab for a year or two and switch to another later on. Usually people stay longer cause they may get better chances at publishing a co authored paper
