I went to Alaska with my grandpa for a month when I was 9 yo. We went to Seward and caught salmon on a river walk by snapping them with only a thread tied to our hooks. One of the coolest experiences of my life.

being born in AK and living here. the views/scenery seen through a video on a screen really don't give in how breath taking it is here. yes, the cameras give insight, but man, in person, it's another world. lots of good views, places, destinations. but there's always a downside to every place, no matter what.

Cruises are super fun, and typically it's not just staying on the boat you can get off at each stop and do an excursion or just go solo. It's not everyone's cup of tea but it's a cool way to see a bunch and have your food and room&board pre-determined for each stop.

I was raised with ford dodge and Chevy so I love them all but my favorite engine as far as dependability goes, it's an ls , I've done put them through hell and they just keep going so ls swap everything unless you want it to stay original

Honestly bro, I've been watching you for years and had mad respect for you. After watching you enthusiastically snagging those salmon however, I really lost a lot of it...
Snagging in AK is freezer fishing, not sport fishing. It probably sounds strange, but the point isn't to use skill to trick the fish into biting, it's to get food as quickly and as efficiently as possible, like spear fishing or dipnetting. Most of us up here also find snagging in any other situation taboo. I'm not trying to sway your opinion, just giving mine as someone who grew up here, and maybe to run a little defense for Mav experiencing other types of legal fishing.
It’s legal, efficient, and the traditional method in some places, so you might disagree with it, but I don’t understand how you can lose respect over it.
Hearing the manual 7.3 idle really brought back some nice memories of driving around in the old truck with my lady. I really wish I could go back and buy it, or just another 7.3 in general. I really miss that old truck.
That salmon bowl looked delicious. I eat smoked salmon with cream cheese, capers, red onion and sriracha sauce on bagels or rice cakes almost every day. Wish I could get salmon like that. I’m late on this. But I hope that you can see this. You can snag salmon at Port Hope (halfway in between Ottawa and Toronto) during the fall. I have picture proof of my catches. They’re huge and the experience is something else with the hundred or so peeps on the canal. Right next to a nuclear waste plant and you see trains all night long. It’s effing amazing.

hey mav, you may already know this, but if the water starts foaming and boiling over the pot, you can blow on the bubbles to make it go back down. you know a lot more about cooking than i do so you may be well aware of this trick, but i learned this trick from my girlfriend and it helps a lot.

Yeah, you’re probably right about cruises. I’ve been on a couple only because it was a massive heavy metal festival. So based on that I say if it’s a theme cruise for something you’re passionate about then you might enjoy it. Also, I did a trip last year without my van and I was absolutely miserable. I’m doing it again next month but with better planning and not going anywhere I haven’t been before. Hopefully I’ll survive 3 days without my van.
I took a cruise once and loved it. I didn't think I would, my girlfriend talked me into it. The big advantage is you know your vacation is not going to get ruined by "Breakdowns" and hotel double bookings and such. It's totally worry free vacationing. Ya you can tip a few and not worry about DUI's. Careful though as you may ADD to the populous of your family!!

A tip driving a pickup with this much torque, start out in 2nd gear. Let the clutch out as slow as you give it fuel. First gear can be too jumpy.
1st can also be considered “a creeper” gear in these older power strokes! Mainly used for pulling a loaded trailer!

These are essentially stocked salmon. They’re released as smolt and come back a few years later
some rivers here in norway, if you catch a salmon by hooking the back or belly you have to give it away to the eldercenter/homes

My older Ford the first gear was like a granny gear for climbing steep inclines. The normal driving I always started in 2nd gear.
