Barrows is in MB just down the road from Hudson Bay Sask. I was hitching going south from The Pas on the #10 highway at the Cowan-Winnipegosis junction with about an hour of light left, it was mid to early fall. I figured I could hit the next town before it got dark. Man was I wrong. I was walking on #10 at the bottom of duck mountain, it got dark fast with the sun behind the mountain. Anyways, it got so dark I couldn't see my waving hand in front of my face. I heard something coming towards the highway trough the thick brush and pines until finally in broke through and walked beside me in the ditch for a mile or two, seemed like 100 miles. I could hear and feel it's foot steps as it walk slightly behind me in the ditch. It was bipedal, walking like a man. It was scary being able to feel it's quite stomps. Well that's how the steps felt, because I have been charged by a bull moose during the rut. Not to mention being around four legged farm animals. I could finally hear a vehicle before I could see its headlights because of curves in the road, but when the lights finally became visible, the thing walked calmly into the tree line. The f@cking car sped by ignoring my waving arms. As soon as it went by I could hear it breaking dry branches under it's feet moving into the cleared ditch a few meters behind me again. All I could do is flick my lighter and yell! I was freaked out. I couldn't smell anything different, only feel and hear the bipedal strides mixed with my beating heart. Finally I seen another light coming not noticing the sound this time. I decided I was jumping in front of this next vehicle stopping it, or getting put out of my misery by the vehicle. But the vehicle stopped and told me to jump in the back of truck ending my terrifying ordeal on a northern/central Manitoba highway. I think about it now and then, and remember hearing something not to far off the road splashing around in an old gravel pit, or pond etc. a bout 15-20 minutes before it got dark so fast..."

The best advice I've ever received is: Never be the prey. Stay calm, think clearly, & trust your instincts. Know your environment, how to use it, & how to defend yourself. Knowing me, this type of encounter would become my obsessive focus until I fully understood what I saw & became an expert on it. I wouldn't tell anyone either but I might spread a few scary stories to keep others away for mutual protection. Great story, thanks for sharing! Cheers mate 🍻

Ran across some one story of an individual who was found living feral outside on the coast of North Carolina. This was back in the eighties. His skin had become so thick through mosquito and bug bites as to become impenetrable to any more bites. Cover your skin in clay or mud and even the bugs can't find you.

In the mid 80's there were still people living in Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky/Tennessee....

I have never hiked the trail and i have watched a lot of documentaries about this trail and people doing the 2200-mile hike and not one person never mention anything about crazy things like this going on. So, I am skeptical. This could be something that I possibly would like to do someday.

There are feral people in northern CA too. They will go through your camp and rifle through your stuff. You can feel them following you. I used to hunt wild pigs up there. I just got in the habit of leaving a whole hog hanging for them when I left. You could buy 5 tags for $7 and easily fill them. So with 4 hogs I could fill my freezer and a few others. I did not see why I should not leave them something. Either they or a bear would get it.

This sounds like b.s. I have not been a patrolman for about a decade but I refuse to believe that ANY trained and sworn law enforcement officer would not unholster his service weapon and point it at the suspect, who just broke into his fucking cop car, before he started giving any kind of verbal commands to the crazy naked criminal!!! If he charged an officer whose car he just broken into and was screaming obscenities and obviously ignored all verbal warnings, he’d be the luckiest fucking hillbilly on that mountain, if he just got pepper sprayed or tased cuz most cops would have just shot his ass. That’s just one of MANY things that don’t add up in this video.

Not hunting, but a wildlife photographer was taking pics of hummingbirds in the Rockies(this was early 80s), and when developing a closeup of a bird perched on a branch noticed the boar grizzly laying on his belly in the bush watching the guy. From about three feet away.
