Made my first portage at Algonquin Park in 2007 and absolutely loved it. From 2007 to 2014 we did at least 3 portages a summer. Very grueling indeed. Nothing better than spending a week portaging through the vast beauty of this place. At the time, these creatures were the last thing on our minds and never had any type of incident where I'd rack it up to one of these things. Thank the Lord. Absolutely beautiful place, recommend it to anyone who loves the outdoors.

I’ve never been myself, but it’s on my bucket list of Canadian parks to visit. Heard a lot of good things over the years about it.

Tim and his cousins had to learn their lesson the hard way! Should have listened to the youngest cousin from the start. I used to be in the same position - the youngest in the group with my older cousins and friends out in the woods or someplace and have that uneasy feeling. But they would just ignore me. Thanks for the story, DW!

Thanks Isaiah! I can relate to this one in a few ways. Growing up we had a cabin on lake Winnipeg. My parents sold it to my uncle when i was 13/14. Then spring if the year I graduated they bought another one right on the lake not far from my uncles cabins. In total we have 7 family members with cabins in the same sub division. Me and my younger cousins (ranging from 2-7 years younger than me) would pretty much do the same thing as Tim and his cousins. We would ride around all night, or play airsoft in the woods at night, or head down to the beach. Thankfully we never had an experience like this one, but over the years we did come across a couple bears, and a cougar. I almost rode into one one night riding home from my cousins cabin down a trail. Bloody thing was standing in the middle of the trail as I flew around the corner. That wasn’t a nice feeling…
