Glendale 65 - Episode 13 - Track Demo
Hi John, I've been following your great channel and I have a question. I've been having problems with my Carrera slot car track. I have this track for three years now without any issue. The problem started about three months ago. After one or two weeks without running, the track starts to have electric conductivity issues. I mean, the cars stop all over the place. I always clean the dust on the track with electrostatic dust catching cloths and also the cars sliding contacts before each session so, that wasn't the issue. I even changed the sliding contacts for new ones. So, I decided to clean all the track metal strips with ethilic alcohol 70% and the problem was solved. After cleanup, the cloth I use was filled with a brown residue that apparently was deposited on the metal strips. After that, I ran the cars every day for two weeks without any problem but, after another week without running, the issue was back again. PS: I don't detect any corrosion on the tracks Do you know what this brown residue is? I have the track on a humid environment. Could this be the problem? Is the alcohol I used harmful in any way? Is there a better product to clean the metal strips? Is there a better solution? Thanks ruclips.net/video/RrapQrVl8T8/видео.html
This is perfect. Can I purchase a Smartrace single board computer setup from you?
Hey John, I hope you’re healthy and happy. Love your channel. Are you still working on Glendale? Hopefully you are. Can’t wait to see more stuff, my friend.
Kill the music 🎶!!! 🤦🏾♂️
The app doesn't allow me to click add photos for cars, drivers or track
Use pit lanes to create a bases. Make a track with many "islands" which you switch into and out of. Each pit is set into each loop. Refuel in base sets team color. Rules...to many with each a different game
Where did you get the power supply and tire razor?
Bought the Tire Razor several years ago, built the power supply from an old PC power supply.
I think if you lay your MDF on the floor flat for about 5 days, it will get used to the humidity in the area where your building the track and it may not expand and contract at all, plus use latex products they tend to be more flexible than oil based, you might want to use a 3 inch roller setup in stead of spray, the roller will stipple your wood and match the stipple on your track surface , try 1/4 inch nap it looks to be about right , prime with gray or brown that black will cover better ! Thanks for the videos on how to build your track, great information !
You are correct, but it's not always the MDF that expands/contracts. The plastic track itself is notorious for expansion/contraction.
What do I need to “wire tap” my 40’ analog track? I understand how the wire gets attached to the track but what is the power source? I just have the old carrera power supply for digital. There’s no wire terminals on it.
Just jump from the cu track section and fan out from there.
Hi John , I really enjoy your content , I was curious if you were going to make more video’s of your track . I love your style and you attention to details, I would love to see more content on your next phase terraforming the landscape , thank you for your content it has really made me a more enthused in this wonderful hobby thanks for your time😊
Twisting the pairs only helps avoid crosstalk if they’re twisted at different rates.
I’ve borrowed and adapted this technique. After screwing down the infill piece and making sure the track is secure, I just attach the router template, using the track edge as a guide. No need to trace it out. In some areas, I’m using foam instead of MDF. I use the flexible template the same way. I screw through the foam into a sacrificial backer board and then run my hot wire cutter right along it just like you would with the router. Thanks for the inspiration! I’d love to pick your brain about the automation controllers you’re using to integrate your time-of-day lighting and weather effects. The lightning and thunder effects with real-life delays is just a next level touch.
Me and my friend just moved to Digital from HO as well. I made a channell to kind of document the change. Digital is a blast. We are still pretty green, but loving it! Good video on SRA! Thanks for posting it. Race on!
Hi John. Hope all is well. Have not seen any new posts from you. I enjoy your videos.
FANTASTIC videos. I Just bought Race to Victory as Im new to the hobby. Your vids are better than the manual!
Can you do a "fuel" race without the bluetooth app? Have the pit lane, but the bluetooth is back ordered. | thanks!
Yea you can. Not through smart race til you get the Bluetooth adapter. You can turn the fuel mode on on your control unit. Real mode is cool. As you burn fuel off you get faster but looser. You probably already figured that out tho. 🏁
Good info, great video! Especially the track clip info!
Thanks for sharing your videos with us! I’m new to digital racing after many years with HO & 1/32 racing. You have to check out the Slot Invasion Carrera guides! Much smoother at the track intersections and quiets the car down as well!! A $3 upgrade well worth it. Happy Racing and God Bless!!!
John I owned many slot cars in the late 60s now my grandson has a slot car race track oh carrea back in the day we "handed tires motors etc now it's a new world can I change tires on his carrea slot car
If you have had good results, keep it up. But you never want oil on your brushes. Break in in water works just fine.
I have so enjoyed watching your videos. Are you going to post the one where you relocated the Carrera dongles? Would love to see how you did it. Thank you for your videos.
What do you suggest for a commercial model for strictly breaking in motors? Thank you
Hi John. I sure miss your videos. You really have a knack for teaching. Hope all is well.
Next time please take the car put of the box before you begin filming … and spare us the usual, almost five minutes long, typical north American, ‘life history’ and pronouncement of undying gratitude. Thanks.
Very informative vid for us newbies. Can you tell me the manufacturer and model# of your power supply or an equivalent? Thank you.
John are you still around
This is Bar None the best Carrera track how to put together I have ever seen
im a little confused at how you are judge in your efficency of the motor you are looking at the amps the motor draws to run .... you have nothing showing your output watts what you are infact seeing is the watts used to drive the motor..... so with those numbers increasing....that is actually showing that it is drawing more amperage to drive the motor so if you ask me um thats a drop in efficency no?
Agreed. Efficiency n= Pin / Pout by definition. But we do see a change in amps- probably due to reduced resistance at the "now conforming" brushes delivering more of the applied volts to the armature windings. This leads to higher rpm which drives more bearing resistance, both of which increase output power. On top of this, these no/low load tests don't reflect the performance in service at higher loads, volts, and amps. That will show up as punch, accel, deccel/braking performance which should all be stabilized and better after motor break-in. But kudos to John for taking the measurements & for taking the time to share his know how and process in any case.
Hi John ,just found your channel today and subscribed , so many wonderful back posts I have to catch up on , I see you havent posted lately and hope your doing ok ? ,,,Greetings from Northern Europe ......Harry
I want to upgrade my analogy Carrera track to digital. 😊 I have some digital cars and a NSR Porsche 997 that I want to put a digital chip in. I am 63 and remember my first slot car race when I was about 12 yrs old or so. The tech is great now, I am getting back into this and what fun I am having. 😊
What happened to glendale
are you ok i miss you
can you use the older non digital track sections with the new digital sets?
Awesome layout, I’ve been looking at a lot of designs, trying to figure out what will be best for me and I think I’ll adopt your plan, it’s the best by far for moderate space and the layout construction is very well thought out, did you use any programs for this project layout or is it your idea?
Would love to see your track design layout.
Again, Awesome Demonstration and Class for Beginners like myself just coming into the world of 132 Carrera Slot Car Racing. This tutorial should be a must watch before you’re able to purchase this new product. Thank you for taking the time for me and the other uncertain curious people who can now buy their dream creation. What was the blue blinking light about, you never discussed it after connecting it?
That Sir, was an Awesome Carrera Track Setup Demonstration, the best yet. I haven’t purchased my set yet, still puzzled which one to buy. What set was that you demonstrated? Glad I found your video, I will definitely use your technique. Can’t wait to see the next video. Thanks
Thanks😊
What ever happen to you. I learned so much from you when I began.
Thank you for the excellent explanation, so useful. 😊
My local "TJ Maxx" (in Britain, it's called TK Maxx), I was amazed to see a Carrera 132 Digital set in a huge box selling for £299.00 (reduced by £100.00)! Can't justify buying for space reasons but it totally got my inner child all revved up :-)
John, hope all is well with you and your family. wish you would keep posting content. I learned so much from your videos.
Any new videos coming?
Hi, I am new to larger scale slot cars. I have only owned HO scale. I was curious about when you glued the body mounts. Does it affect the handling of the car or is it just to remove the rattle noise?
Any more videos planned?
If I have two pit lane set ups can one be used as a pit and the other used to house the pace car with full functionality of pit fueling, etc and pace car functionality at same time?
Thank you for this very informative video. I’m new to the hobby and would like to know more about your power supply. I don’t see anything like it on online.
Does the carerra app connect dongel work with the Carerra GO sets?
A belated Happy Thanksgiving John, hope the best to you & your family & fans
