Hi John, always love your videos!
So I finally got my first Carrera D132 startset a few weeks ago and then I got an extra car a few days ago, and now I noticed how this new car seems to stick to the track better than the first two. All of them are stock Carrera cars, unmodified in any way. So the first two cars tend to slide off the track very easily, I really need to slow down in the curve very much if I want to stay inside. I can only think of one thing which is different - tyre-wear - the new car got the new tyres. So my question would be I guess whats your experience on this. What factors increase the probability that a car will slide off the track, other than speed of course (bad driving in general). If I true the tyres (is that the term?) will the car be less likely to derail? Is it just about the grip of the tyres? How about different makes/models of the car (slot car that is..), does that matter?
    Much appreciate your response!
    Cheers

Hiya, and thanks for the kind words!
Tires are a science in of themselves, but the basics are easy and make a big difference.
First... are the tires (and the track) on the older cars clean? Tires pick up everything, and frequent cleaning is a must. A little soap and water wash on the tires works great, and a lint roller works good before a run. This is assuming the older tires are not hardened. Carrera tires tend to either turn hard, or gummy, sometimes even both over time, especially if they're not run often.
Once cleaned, a small drop of oil worked into the rubber helps as well.
If the tires are going bad, just replace them. Keep the old ones for tire barriers and such. You might find that tires need to be replaced long before they "wear out".
Tire truing is the correct term, and can make a difference by both maximizing the contact patch of the tire, and smoother running allowing the tire to remain in contact. I actually have a tire truing machine (tire razor) ordered, and should be here in a few weeks. Tire truing is much more important if you choose to run the cars without traction magnets.
Different makes and models can make a difference... even 2 identical cars can run different, but that's another story. Point is, a Carrera classic NASCAR will be outrun by a Carrera F1 car, because they are lighter and have a lower center of gravity... much like the real world. To reduce that effect, we run similar classes and types (Porsche 917's are their own, F1's are their own, DTM's, etc). This keeps everything... within a mistake or two... of each other, which is close enough for us.
