You should still buy a Wii U
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.День назад
Recently, a ton of folks excited for #XenobladeChroniclesX Definitive Edition have started saying this new port makes the #WiiU completely unnecessary. Those folks seem to be missing one crucial factor though: the gamepad. As much as #Nintendo's moved on from dual screen systems, developers' usage of the gamepad during the Wii U's lifespan made for some pretty interesting experiences. Even if m...
Are iPhones ready to be your next gaming handheld?
Просмотров 44628 дней назад
Earlier this year, Apple was forced to open their App Store to accommodate emulators and (in certain regions) third-party app stores. That new support combined with a history of the App Store being a solid gaming platform, should make iPhones ideal gaming devices for those not looking for dedicated handhelds. Unfortunately, the reality is much less positive. BlueSky: bsky.app/profile/gamexdata....

    In order to play StarFox Zero listen carefully, don't play the main story first. Go to training mode and spend about 8 hours learning the controls, because the motion controls are kinda complicated. There's a minus button that swap screens and you have the ability to turn the motion controls on or off in the pause menu. It's easier to shoot everyone in first person mode, where as all ranged mode is easier for avoiding enemies.

      When I've had similar problems in the past, it ended up being a small issue with file placement. (Despite me having checked 20 times before.) Generally, a good next step is to start from the beginning placing your files in the right location. If that doesn't clear things, you might even consider redumping your online files to make sure nothing got lost.

      Homebrew isn't illegal. Installing Aroma and the Dumpling app will likely be more reliable. However, through the browser version, the common remedy is to restart your console, clear your browser cache, and try again. If it still freezes, you'd just need to keep trying.

    I’ve been spending entirely too much time on AliExpress since I finally took the plunge and bought a decent lightsaber there for half the going price with all the high-end features that the Amazon sellers VERY DECEPTIVELY do not actually provide. I’ve wanted a fully loaded retro handheld for years now. I always hold off because I’m awaiting the perfect design that meets all my wants. It turns out that the solution was taking advantage of some phenomenal sales to grab the TrimUI Smart Pro AND an Anbernic RG28xx. I’m a massive fan of the GameBoy Micro for its incredible pocketability and the way its tiny screen makes pixel-art look just gorgeous. I kinda like the looks of some other twin-stick models. But between the 30 dollar price tag and the awesome stuff that CrossMix is doing now, I couldn’t argue. Maybe if I really turn out to enjoy it, I’ll end up going for a Retroid Pocket instead. Or I could also get one of those sweet Batocera drives for my Steam Deck.

    I think you understated the multiplayer functionality because every PS1 game that has multiplayer works, just hook up an extra controller. This also applies to the emulators, so let's say you want to load up UMK3 or Killer instinct on a SNES emulator, BAM! Tekken 3 or Rival Schools (PSX2PSP version)? YES! Marvel VS Capcom or Alien VS Predator on a CPS2 emulator? OF COURSE! All the native multiplayer works and ive had so much fun bringing my PSTV everywhere to relive these old multiplayer experiences

    Unless you want to play the handful of remaining exclusives - no there's no reason to own a Wii U except for the novelty. As a person bought one at launch (and still owns it) I think others forget how it was like owning one in real time. There were painful gaps between games. Nintendo exclusives were hit and miss. Use of motion or game pad controls were force fed at times. Big third party devs weren't interested enough in making games for the console after about 1.5 years on the market. Personally think the Switch is what the Wii U should always have been. Second screen was a cool feature but I never thought it was cool enough to outweigh all the downsides.

    • @GameXData
      @GameXData 5 дней назад

      No shade on your perspective, but I do think you're overemphasizing your perceived history with the system over the current user experience. This video's specifically about showing the unique gameplay experiences afforded by the addition of the gamepad. These days, those gameplay experiences are truly the biggest selling point for picking up a Wii U. With it's entire library behind it, there are more than enough games within interesting gameplay that is lost in translation on other systems.

    I've been saying this for years. Mario Kart 8 two player without that awful vertical split screen, along with making Mario Maker levels with the touch pad alone make it a better unit. But adding the fact you can play DS games on it and use it for maps makes it superior. Plus the controllers don't lag like the awful joycons, and you have full backward capacity to wii games and wiiware games.

    I love the Wii U.I bought it the day it came out.I don’t understand why it was such a failure.There is nothing wrong with this console at all.The public just decides to “hate” on something,and the rest of the world follows their lead.The Batman game is awesome because the controller is great for loading up and using it to set things up.The public totally blew it on this console.They don’t know what they are missing.

      As also early adopter, it was so weird to see public reaction to the Wii U in real time devolve into hating on it for fun. It definitely needed more games released for it, but there was consistently solid releases from beginning to end. • @GameXData
      @GameXData 6 дней назад

      PS4s are relatively modern. Kinda like what's considered "classic rock," I think most consoles are considered retro after about 20 years. I know Gamecube and PS2 started to be folded into that category a couple years ago. Pretty soon Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 will follow suit.

    My personal take is sadly no. Different story for people who are just against emulating at all for whatever reasons they may have, but if you aren't, well my own Wii U rapidly transitioned to paperweight after the Switch came out, and now even if I want to fire up original XCX, well I could run it on a desktop, laptop, or Steam Deck quite well. I think its main niche is probably Wii and GC games, which again are very emulatable consoles, and an original Wii can be had pretty cheaply if you only care about those. Not quite but nearly all the games I enjoyed on the U have been ported to the Switch at this point. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze Pokken Tournament Xenoblade X (Pending) Mario Kart 8 Smash Bros. Ultimate ...And that's sadly or fortunately it, really. My own U is running custom firmware and hooked up to an SSD, but even that really hasn't kept the dust off it in recent years. I may look around to see if any friends can find some use for it, because I still think it's a great emulation platform for someone who doesn't have something else set up. I just do have something else set up. But here's a couple practical reasons besides to dislike it: The tablet, even if you're like me and get something in near-mint condition for pennies, is still another thing to charge and its battery life is kinda disappointing in something like XCX that'll have you constantly using that tablet. The consoles seem to have been dying on people in recent years at a high rate. You don't really see that for stuff like the Wii or GC at the moment, even if the controllers are getting rarer.

    I still think the optimal use for the Dualscreen, is to have the main Screen with action gameplay, and the secondary (touch screen) to assume an "tactical" function. Arguably, Zombie U had the perfect setup for it, although, the game didn't really utilized it to its fullest (since the game had plenty of places where it would be safe to just ignore the main screen, while using the gamepad). Where I did use the "always active items menu" was on WindWakerHD, where I had some fights changing weapons on the fly. But, still, Wii U Gamepad still had too many uses that gone underutilized, and got ignored because of it. And, one of the reasons people still think of the Gamepad as a gimmick, is because the games that used it, didn't made full use of it, making it possible to completely ignore it to complete the game (and, some people go out of their way to undermine the use of "the gimmick"). Ultimately, I'd say that what the WiiU lacked the most, to promote the gamepad's functions, as Online Multiplayer. Take, for example, Splatoon! Since the Wii, I already said that motion controls were up there with mouse, as the best method of aiming for FPS. But, no one took it seriously, since was only used on the Wii, and the games didn't really give any emphasis to its use. It took until Splatoon, to have people notice the difference using movement controls make. Yeah, to play the story mode and the multiplayer with "non experienced players", using just the stick and spray n'pray strategy was enough (and, I saw too many people using it to discredit motion controls). But, it took some people becoming an Action Movie Hero to really convince the enhancement said "gimmick" brought to the game play! Optimally, I'd say that the best way to show case the gamepad as a improvement to gameplay, rather than a gimmick, would be an online multiplayer game that requires quick inventory management to get ahead of others. That, or, go the Wonderful 101 route, and make a PVP where you're a mage that needs to write the spells on the go to use them.

      Tbh, if you're primarily looking for something to connect to a TV, I wouldn't recommend any Anbernic device. They've gotten flack in the past for skimping on their battery designs, leading to some extra heat while charging. Especially if charging while outputting to an external display, I probably wouldn't have a ton of confidence. Instead, I might recommend spending a bit more for an Android-based handheld from Retroid or Odin. Or, if you're mainly looking to play on a TV, maybe consider a lower-end mini PC or PSTV. You'll likely have a more comfortable time from those options in the long run.

    Oh man? Darksiders 2 saved so much time having the menus on the gamepad. That game had such long load times going into and out of the menus. The only problem was you couldn't use it for unlocking upgrades and powering up your gear. So you could change gear on the fly? But any other customization still required pausing, unfortunately. But it's still way improved over the other versions. Too bad it does run too well the farther into the game you get and patches to the Wii U OS made the game perform even worse after the company behind the game already went belly up. Luckily Darksiders was saved eventually, just not for the Wii U version of 2

    • @Nintendude.
      @Nintendude. 8 дней назад

      @GameXData I was thinking multi-console connection via USB or using the USB LAN adapter either for online or offline play. Someway similar to what the Gamecube did with Mario Kart Double Dash and 1080 Avalanche. I've checked online if it would be possible and some say that one of the Call of Duty games does has this feature for up to 2 consoles but there is no video evidence so far. I think games like Splatoon could have used the second game-pad option for the local VS mode but if that was not the case this "LAN" ability could have been of some help - especially if it can connect up to 8 players. Another game that would benefit from LAN would be Monster Hunter 3U as well as motion controls and/or gyro aiming for long ranger weapons like the Bow and Bowguns,.. maybe even have the option of using the game-pad as a Scope? Still the game-pad has lots of great uses in Monster Hunter 3U as a Map, Text and Voice Chat, as well as Quick Item Crafting while the last 2 main games in the series do allow you to move now while the menu is up the WiiU version you can still perform any action while making items on the game-pad. In a sense I thing a Game like Among Us (playing online at least) would worked better on the WiiU than I think on the Switch.

    • @Nintendude.
      @Nintendude. 8 дней назад

      @GameXData Another case would be if the WiiU had the option to use the 3DS as another controller similar what Super Smash Bros did. But imagine if it would be standard for almost any game that uses the game-pad, it could be used as a second game-pad for another player. The idea of a WiiU game that can only be played by using a 3DS Or another idea would be a game that would use 1 Game-pad user and 3 3DS users. Or 4 players using 3DS as a controllers. I think games like the already mentioned Among Us would worked as well. Another example would be Gamecube games that use the Gamecube-Gameboy Advanced Link Cable such as Final Fantasy the Crystal Chronicles and The of Zelda the 4 Swords. As in everyone can see themselves on the TV trying to complete the main goal as a team but also MAYBE trying to fight among themselves in other to stay on top of end up with the better loot/reward.

      @@GameXData Lastly (though I think less innovative) when it comes to WiiU games there are the 2 basic "MAIN" ways to play them. 1. Playing the game with the Game-Pad and with it's features. 2. Playing the game in it the traditional controller style (Zero Features included) But there is a third option companies could have used or should I say continued with. 3. Have a WiiU game that plays like a Wii game. NO I am not talking about WiiU games that uses a Wii remote just for button input or for other players, like Smash or Runbow (There are a ton of those) Nor I am talking about using Wii-Mode OR they should have continued making games for the Wii itself (although that last part would have been cool and might have made Nintendo more money for the Wii owners that skipped buying the next console while WiiU owners can still play the newest Wii game but that's another topic) NO... No... no... I am talking about making FAT A** WiiU games that used all the might of the WiiU Console with the power of the Wii Remote with motion plus (or Wii MotionPlus however you like to call it) which came so darn late in the original Wii's lifecycle - HECK they could have even made a better version of the motion plus. I think Wii's motion control gameplay could have been refined or improved with the added power of the newer system and experience companies gained from the WiiU's predecessor. No Game-Pad, No Traditional Controllers just play it like a Wii game ....but better.

      It sounds more so like you wish the Wii U or specific games had an additional set of features rather than the gamepad not doing enough. I also found it strange that Gamecube games never made it to the eShop (considering the Wii U is backwards compatible already), and I'd love to see more LAN options for certain games. However, I often find that devs made decisions about how to use the gamepad based on their own idea of what fit best for their game. For example, devs probably wouldn't want the 3DS as a controller for most gamepad-heavy games because the original models lacked triggers and a right stick. Even for Smash Bros, it wasn't the ideal extra controller. If a feature like that were made available for every game, that might've meant either more constricted development or worse user experiences.

    My biggest gripe was mew being exclusive to this $50 ball. Pokemon fans are collectors and most will never get mew in a game where mew is the chase pokemon.

      Same. Although, I'm afraid Nintendo would see those features as liabilities. Considering how many folks saw the Wii U gamepad and 3DS' 3D display as gimmicks, I could see them not risking a repeat performance.

    I have a Wii U, and I'm doing another playthrough of Xenoblade Chronicles X while you weebs wait for the switch port😅, and I also own the Wind Waker and Toilet Princess😂 great games BTW. You know what, that Black Ops 2 version on the WiiU has dual screen multiplayer, one player could play on the TV and the other on the tablet, it was pretty cool.

    MK8 on Wii U you were able to look at other player's items on the game pad. So for online play at high Elo it was crucial to always keep an eye on the gamepad and check enemy items, and then you could dodge red shells or pull the breaks when you're first place and you see someone holding a blue shell.

      It’s honestly one of my favorite uses of the gamepad. On a technical level, shifting maps and player order to the gamepad seems small, but it adds just a touch more nuance to the gameplay.

      hell yea, all nintendo consoles through to the wii u, plus motion controls for the wii games. Good peripheral support for backwards compatibility as well. HDMI Wii. 2 screens. It's a dope system for all sorts of reasons. Plus it has a small but surprisingly good library and you can get current nintendo games for 5 and 10 bucks if you want physical copies for it, the great titles are mostly all very cheap and the lesser ones are expensive haha. Having the minimap in resident evil revelations is great as well, I beat that one on inferno. Fun system. IDK why people agreed to pay 60 bucks for games on the switch when they're ports and remakes. I never got one bc they failed when being tested on pricepoint. New Nintendo is awful, and the company in general only acts right when their back is up against the wall. Their rabidly loyal fanbase will ensure that will never happen again...

    Great video. I have gotten frustrated by hearing the same bad takes over and over again. The Wii U has a use, and it feels like anyone saying it doesn't is just repeating advertising for the switch.

    As long as there are exclusive games that Nintendo refuses to port, I’ll never get rid of my Wii U. Xenoblade X was a pleasant surprise but they’ll never port Nintendo Land or Kirby and the Rainbow Curse

    if you already own a wiiu, there isn't really a need to get the switch ports of some games as when buying them used, the wiiu version will be cheaper 9 times out of 10 like dk tropical freeze, super mario 3d world and nsmbu. yeah sure you miss out on some extras but those weren't intended to be there in the first place and mostly there to warrant buying the game again edit: also wow is your wiiu dusty

      No matter how often I wipe down the system or gamepad, both seem to immediately get dusty and covered with fingerprints the moment I point a camera at them. So, I've kinda just rolled with it.

    sorry im a total noob at this kind of stuff. 1. is the thumb drive required? as far as i can tell we only need the sd card for dumping the files and then putting it in the computer. what is the importance of plugging both into the wii u? 2. running this doesnt require any pre installed softwares like homebrew right? thanks in advance and sorry for the noob questions

    • @GameXData
      @GameXData 11 дней назад

      Both are great questions. I use a flash drive to expand my device's storage. If you have a ton of digital titles you want to back up, the extra storage may be convenient. However, it's definitely not required. As for software, you're correcting. When you go to the dumpling website, it'll momentarily run an application, but it disappears when you restart and doesn't require you to have installed any other software or firmware beforehand.

    Thanks for this review. I have an intel Surface Pro 8 and on fairly simple tasks say email, web browsing, RUclips playback with around 70% brightness I would get about 4-5 hours out of it. From the sounds of it in a similar work load the Surface Pro 11 would get 8+ is that right in your view?

    • @GameXData
      @GameXData 11 дней назад

      That's correct. Individual experiences may vary slightly, but I've typically had no problem getting at least 8 hours on a charge for less intensive tasks. For my scripting sessions (where I have Word open with a few tabs in Edge), a drain of about 10% per hour is fairly typical.

    With the switch 2, i hope they keep in mind how many switch 1's they have sold and you can use the switch 1 as a controller for the switch 2, so they can make crazy games like the wii-u had, would be fun.
