I don't expect these manufacturers to give me a great out of the box software experience - it's a given that I'll put CFW on any Linux handheld. So apart from that, I don't see what the flaws and issues are supposed to be here...? These handhelds have come a long way and this is good quality for a budget price.
Actually, anbernic stock firmware came a long way, it's not bad at all (aside from being ugly lol) , since my first purchase (rg35xx plus) there have been maybe 20 updates, and now it's good, everything works, performances are good, sleep function is pretty much perfect for a non-andtoid device (like less than 10% battery drain in 24 hours sleep). It's all around very good
@@frankysour yes I received my RG40XXV since I wrote that comment, and the stock firmware is not bad. I put Knulli on it though and that's what I prefer.
There is a new Trimui item called the Trimui Brick its like the miyoo but a little bit more bigger plus no thumb sticks so definitely looking forward to it once it comes out this year
Im glad you said that about the dpad because I also fee like its bad but every other reviewer talks about how amazing it is! I felt like I got a defective console lol
Not dogging this review or his experience whatsoever but: I bought the 40xxv as my first device of this kind (by any make) and then as I am want to do, got antsy waiting for it to arrive and started watching coverage of it. I absolutely love the thing. The 2 biggest things here on the reviewers device that very much would have driven me crazy - the dpad and very cheapy sounding shoulder buttons. There absolutely must be some defects on his unit that explain his problems because my dpad is exactly right and I love it. As for shoulder buttons - I can’t tell as much as I can with the dpad but they seem straight up different too. They aren’t as loud and the sound isn’t a hollow thwack, it’s definitely more of a click.
@@GameXData thanks for the vid! I did sub and like too. I was fully prepped to be really annoyed if my D-pad were like the one on yours as I primarily just want to play metroidvania and jrpg on the device. I need that dpad to purr haha.
I ordered the SP, while waiting for it, rg40xx H came out so I ordered that. Then while waiting for the H, V came out so ordered that again. While waiting for the V, another device comes out.
Does this support charging while using? How well does it pair to wireless controllers? And does connecting to a larger screen i.e. the mini HDMI make a difference with the screen choppiness you describe?
Tbh, if you're primarily looking for something to connect to a TV, I wouldn't recommend any Anbernic device. They've gotten flack in the past for skimping on their battery designs, leading to some extra heat while charging. Especially if charging while outputting to an external display, I probably wouldn't have a ton of confidence. Instead, I might recommend spending a bit more for an Android-based handheld from Retroid or Odin. Or, if you're mainly looking to play on a TV, maybe consider a lower-end mini PC or PSTV. You'll likely have a more comfortable time from those options in the long run.
"Makes the entire handheld feel cheaper" well its not an Ayaneo device is it? I think this handheld is great for anything up to ps1, i wouldn't use it for anything more than that. For n64 and up i would buy a different handheld. I think Anbernic's decision to make different handhelds with the same chip is a decent idea, it means a lot of already available custom firmware will work, or might only need a slight adjustment in development and people can choose whatever form factor fits them the best. I don't mind it not being as pocketable as the others, but that's the whole idea. If i wanted something more pocketable with with this chipset and power i would just get the Anbernic RG35XX plus or a Miyoo mini plus. Just having that bigger 4 inch screen is so nice, especially with my favorite console the SNES. The whole problem in todays market is how quick enthusiasts are to buy a device they might not even need. I have the original RG35xx which doesn't even have Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, so getting the RG40XXV is a welcome upgrade.
i updated to knulli without ever switching on and configuring the stock OS to get the analog stick LED configured. Now i have no way of configuring this LED in knulli? any advice on how to get the analog stick LED to switch on?
My first guess is that this is due to the RG40XXV not technically being supported yet. Though, from some initially searching, it seems like it might also be an issue with the supported RG40XXH. One Reddit post I found mentions a patch to fix it: www.reddit.com/r/rg40xx/s/Wc5dmN68Kd
I'd recommend using USB-A to USB-C cables for budget devices like this. C-to-C charging often isn't made available due to hardware limitations and, even when it is, can put strain on the battery due to how cheaply these handhelds are made.
Just bought this yesterday. I didn't do any research prior. This video is helpful.

@@GreenTeaViewer yeah that's fair, actually knully is a real eye candy, and the scraper function particularly is lovely.

Ah, the neverending cycle of Anbernic releases...I gotta give them credit, they at least know how to keep the handheld scene interesting.

Knulli has a script (app) for that which is not included yet by default. Upcoming muOS will have it by default.
@@TheJarnojarno ok thanks how to i get access to the script?
What setting do u use to get ape escape to play correctly?
Iirc the only setting I changed from default was disabling frameskip.
is there pokemon included for this?
Not sure but it takes sd card so you can load roms on there
