Stipe hardly ever uses kicks in his fights he’s always been a puncher. Against Jones walking him down would make even less sense for him to kick. Heavyweights are too simple for Jones. Aspinall will have no answer to the amount of weapons Jones has in his arsenal.

Seeing a hole in John's game is easy when you're not in the ring. Imagine how many of John's opponents said that before they got in the ring with him, only to be another conquest of John's. Tom is a great fighter, but John will do what he does and will go down as the GOAT.
That being said, I think Tom is a beast. But him fighting John is a beast going after the monster of MMA. It will be explosive.

I agree he hasn't fought someone like Tom, but I'm going to have to say Gane is as big and as athletic as Aspinall. He took Francis into the later rounds before losing. Jones literally walked through him being the smaller man if anyone really thinks Jones is a smaller man. But everything is just couch-jockeying until they do meet. I can't wait till they do. And I hope Tom brings it because his fights always end relatively quickly as they're stand and bang where someone catches a haymaker and lights out. John is a tactician in the ring, and that will be the challenge. Only other fight I wanna see more than this, is Jones v Ngannou.

Pretty sure that Aspinall would've finished this version of Stipe in the first round. Still, Jones would be his biggest challenge so far. I hope the UFC puts some pressure on Jones so that we either get this fight in summer or he is stripped of the title

I see no issue fundamentally with what Jon is doing. If he feels he is, at 37, essentially doing legacy fights then fair enough. But he needs to relinquish the belt if so. The champ should fight the next guy in line, that's their job.

Stipe couldn't have been further away from being a legacy fight. If anything, majority of the fans watching thought it should've never been scheduled and was boring. The only 2 fights that could actually expand his legacy are Poatan at LHW and Tom for the unification. So by the rules he either vacates his title at HW and puts dirt on his legacy to chase a super fight with alex which will be over within 2 minutes after jon took him down or he does whats right and DEFENDS his belt against the scariest and best fighter in the HW division which is Aspinall.
No the UFC should strip his belt. A champ that’s declining to fight the next best contender doesn’t deserve the belt and shouldn’t be able to vacate. He had that option before the Stipe fight but that’s just my humble opinion. I agree on the rest you said.
It should have happened the moment he injured his shoulder. UFC should have told him either you keep the belt and fight the number one contender when you are able to fight or you can have your legacy fight with Stipe after you healed up but then you have to vacate your belt now. Because we can't hold up the HW division for such a long time and we know you don't have the grace to relinquish the title on your own.

@9ico Jon said out his own mouth he can't get motivated for guys who are just the next hot thing. Tom is the next hot thing, so was Reyes at the time. Popularity has nothing to do with Jon's motivation. His whole reason to move to heavy weight was a new challenge. No disrespect to Tom, but he's just another guy. He might become something bigger, but right now, that's all he is. If John fights Tom and wins, it's not a legacy defining fight it's just Jon beating the new guy. If he beats Alex that's legacy.

In Aspinall last 2 fights he got hit with bombs but just managed to drop his opponents first. If he can’t finish Jones in the 1st round, it’s Jones fight to win. Also Jones favorite kick is the oblique kick, Tom has a bad knee, that knee is gonna get rebroken.

I love how everyone is saying Stipe was slow. In the first round before he was taken down he was crisp. Why he was slow was Jones started killing his body with leg kicks. Once that happened it was over for Stipe.

I saw Chael say that the Interim title is dissolved when the Undisputed title is contested, after thinking about it, no Chael that isn't how it works historically, it only works that way if the Interim and Undisputed champions fight each other, there have been instances of interim champions losing their titles without losing a fight, ie Tony Ferguson and Colby Covington, but that was because they pulled out of unification fights, and both got a title shot later on, but the instance that stood out in my mind was back in 2008, Randy Couture was the Undisputed UFC HW champion, but he was trying to get a fight with Fedor who was not in the UFC, while he pursued that an interim title fight was announced between Tim Sylvia and Antonio Nogueira, Nogueira subs Sylvia becomes Interim champion, then he and Frank Mir coached a season of TUF and agreed to fight at the end for the Interim title in December, meanwhile Randy gives up on pursuing the Fedor fight and agrees to return to the UFC and is slotted into a main event for his undisputed UFC HW title vs Brock Lesnar... in November, one month before the Nogueira vs Mir interim title fight, Lesnar TKOs Couture and wins the Undisputed UFC HW title, not only did they not dissolve the intetim title, but they went ahead and did Nogueira vs Mir for said interim belt, Mir KOs Nogueira and is declared the interim UFC HW Champion and is billed as such in the build up to the unification fight with Lesnar, so, it would seem the rule is, the interim title is dissolved once the unification bout begins, because then the winner can rightfully be called the Undisputed Champion, if the interim champion pulls out, their belt is dissolved, their opponent gets a replacement to defend the Undisputed belt against, and they are granted a title shot upon return, if the Undisputed champ pulls out, the Interim champion is promoted to Undisputed champion, and the champ that never lost is granted a title shot upon return 💯

The thing about Jones is there is no hose in his game. He just fights in the moment and makes his moves up as he goes unlike somebody dead tried to stick to one game plan even when it’s not working.
