When you think it’s as easy as cut out and replace. Even the good metal is hiding a bit of rust . This sill replacement turned out mint take a seat enjoy this fast flowing video of how I prepared to weld in the inner sill on my 79 hz , still a long way of seeing this on the road again but as I like to say. One less piece to the puzzle.

This was unexpected for the most part , but I went out and bought myself a new bike .. definitely got class and all the style, hopefully turn this old farm bike into a sweet racer .

Here is a fine example of moisturized metal, Over 30 years worth of moisturizing leaves an incredible effect, anyway so I’m digging deep on this part, simple dimples welding and more hammering.. enjoy!

A simple design really requires the most attention, patience and precision. Many mistakes and hours into the build, a simple hinge ends ups being a two day project. Well worth it though .

Welcome back, this video shows you how to recreate, some old parts into something worth welding in. The more I look the more I want to add on, on top of getting stuck into the pickup, i have made quite the progress on the hz and ..stay tuned.
Holden HZ panel prep
Просмотров 6 тыс.3 месяца назад
This week in the shed I show you some simple tips that may help you in the future, when it comes to prep work, leaving the tiniest specs of paint on the edges can effectively wreak a good join. I’ll show you how a weld can be used as a tool , well other then joining metal to metal .
Custom T bars and Over riders

Here I search for new ways to shape and form steel as there’s a section coming up on the hz that will need a gentle touch of fabrication work. These tbars came out swinging, I’m unsure of the solid square bar one though. Possibly good for lip work… anyway .it definitely shows the longer you put time into something the better the results.
Rusty rear panels made Easy

Here I take a look at the inner rear quarter panel on the hz Holden. After taking out the trash, I get stuck into forming up a replica replacement. As for grinding back the welds, you probably don’t need to go as far as I did as all this is well hidden and as for a reference if someone really wanted to see ya joins, they could be left alone (sealed and a coat of paint the new section will give ...

Some panels can be re used, in this video I show you how I tackle the rear quarter panel on the Holden ute. Some would say using second hand panels is not the right approach but if that’s all you got then a little more time is all you need , as far as buying new panels for replacements, iv certainly spent equally the same amount of time adjusting and preparing them for use .
Hand shaping custom panels -fitment to finish

Alright so the panel is far from original. The next best thing is a custom panel that works. A lot of hammering and smoothing out required no instructions included for this sort or work. Go for it lads

This one works and works well. A simple tool ,, well if you don’t have a bead roller that is this air powered hammer is worth the build.
Rear spreader bar for Hotrod plus a nice start to the firewall
Просмотров 8565 месяцев назад
This weeks work in the shed started off with a lot of new ideas , some penciled in others not so much . The spreader bar was definitely in the air from day one and still today I can’t go passed a rod not looking for these bars . I’m thinking I need to go bigger on the front one though.. I’ll save it for a rainy day. The first step to making a firewall. I wouldn’t say it’s anything close to bein...

Love watching you work 🙂
thanks mate 🤘🏻
Super nice work mate!
appreciate it mate🤘🏻
Magic work mate
cheers mate 🤙🏻
Its a tough enough job without having to shoot video as well. Thanks for the effort in putting these together. Much appreciated.
certainly not easy to get the angles without throwing sparks into the lens , two lenses this month . much appreciated your time to watch my progress cheers
looks pretty cool to me well done......i used to turn myself inside out trying to make 1 piece patch panels, the remembered something i was told as a kid.......make it in pieces and weld it together joe
appreciate it mate thanks heaps 🤙🏻
Doing it proper nice work you have skills.. lots out there that think they know what they’re doing and don’t love it keep up the good work
Thanks, will do!
Thats a very neat job mate..well done..gotta tackle the inners on my fc ute will definatly b using few of your ideas..thanks for videos i enjoy em all..ps..was that 2mm sheetmetal u made it out of?..or thicker?.cheers
cheers mate yeh it’s no easy task just uncovering more work then intended, the inners are 1.6 and outer coming soon is 1.2 , I’d recommend getting them made up that way you can add the extra where ya need it .
Great job once again you proved you don't need expensive tools to make rust sections
Interesting i've never seen a quarter panel in halfs! Did the part come that way or you can't buy the whole quarter?
hey mate nope this panel was from another vehicle, I trimmed up for this video, the original panel was a full side panel but I really wanted to keep as much of it as original as could. so a lengthy half was the way .
check out Rusty panel RESCUE 79 HZ
luv ur work
thanks mate 🤘🏻 a lot more to come
Awesome 👍
cheers mate 🤘🏻
Great work as always mate. What size holes do you drill for your plug welds? They look about 8mm? Cheers mate
thanks mate 🤙🏻 your close on it 7 mm bit . though on thickness of sheet 1mm >0.8 I would use a 5 bit with a bit of heat . 1.2 >1.6 7 bit 1.8> 2 8 bit 🤙🏻
@@WingitCustoms thanks mate!
Bloody brilliant mate👌
thanks mate 🤙🏻
Great job, lot of work for something you won’t see but it will be structurally sound.
A lot of work indeed but yes nice and strong again.
Amazing work
right on 🤙🏻
Very good 👍
Thank you! Cheers! 🤙🏻
I would never have gotten the idea to make these myself! Well done. Best way to finish the gap is with a mill, but not always readily accessible to most people!
ah a mill … one machine every man must have , definitely looked into one myself, and would make a great addition to the shed , in time . 🤙🏻
@@WingitCustoms could be finished in a Triton work centre. I know they're 30 years old but with a metal cutting disc in a circular saw, can shave it up to the desired height. Can still do stuff in them that challenge drop saws. Very adaptable.
cool stuff great result.....i bought some from UES here in perth they are called back flap hinges . they were quite reasonable......but nothing like making your own, well done
I checked them out really got some good stuff cheers . cheers again , they aren’t the easiest thing to make .
Bag it
cheers mate bags it’ll be 🤙🏻 there’s a sneaky new add on coming for the shock mounts . stay tuned
Looks awesome 👍 air bags are the go as I’m doing similar set up on my Ute Don’t worry about fuck ups coz it’s how graceful you recover that no one notices 😂😂😂
haha. nice the importance of recovery nothing els to worry about 🤙🏻 thanks
looks good and sturdy should do the job well.........can't help you make a choice between coil overs and bags.....i prefer parallel leaf springs, just so much simpler i think specially on a pick up,but not my truck cheers joe
yes it’s not an easy call, I couldn’t disagree there I looked at parallel bars over and over , something that stuck, I haven’t seen a banjo diff with the triangular links ..
thanks for tuning in , more to come.🤙🏻
That's an impressive piece. Fit and size all perfect. Personally, I'm a Jag IRS bent, but coilovers are pretty cool.
I like the fact it’s a bit fatter at the bottom, it’s a better look in my opinion.
It’s all in the hands and the hits
Oil can-ing
Is the term you were looking f
that’s the one ha cheers 🤙🏻
Nice one. Im a halfarsed welder and fing struggle with shrink welding up rust cuts. Meh,body filler... But good tip.
appreciate it🤙🏻 I find rusty panels sometimes can be thrown at a wall then to be used .. ha
Awwsoke job mate. Subscribed!
Thanks for the sub! cheers mate 🤙🏻
Great work looks good cheers
Thank you! Cheers!🤙🏻
In South Africa its called the chevy el Camino.ive got one,a 72 that im alsow busy rebuilding completely
time and appreciation the Chevy el Camino is a beaut I’d love to get one over here . the early ones really stand out. cheers 🤙🏻
Whats your way of dealing with the other sides of the welds. I mean the inside of the panel?
good question I’ll throw something up in the next video 🤙🏻cheers @john2ndname
Fantastic work and video. 🤙😎
cheers 🤙🏻 more to come .
Looks good 👍
Thanks 👍
Amazing video mate! Subscribed!!
Thanks mate 🤙🏻
You’ve definitely shown me that a real car is a steel car you’re definitely very talented with a hammer and dolly and a mig welder one ☝️ question y not use tig ? First time I’ve ever seen anyone use a leather glove as a way of cooling a weld down.. in all my years a panel beater I’ve never worn gloves anyway top work love it
I appreciate that comment, cheers mate. it’s like all people with preferences, not necessarily the right way , I like to cool it down to reduce the warping but just enough it stays warm in its cold position. leather gloves hold some heat but drop it over a fresh tac and you can feel the sheet shrink back flat , that’s if it crowns .. blink and you’ll miss it 🤙🏻 cheers @michaelbyrnes7944
Glad you were able to keep the body line Joe, seen it filled so many times when repairs are done in that area
Yes it’s definitely a hard line to keep , I haven’t seen to many undamaged ones other then fresh replacements 🤙🏻
nothing wrong with what your doing....great tip about the tacks bringing down that centre bit.watching you rub your gloved hand over the weld reminded me of mum running her hand over where i hurt myself when i was young. enjoy your simple approach well done joe
Hah nice one . It can easily be pulled in to far, something to look for as you tack. Thanks for the comment 🤙🏻
I like it
Is your last name Wing? Cuz😎
unfortunately not mate , cool name though.🤙🏻
With a name gotta love it😎
That was a good effort come out pretty good definitely a hard thing to duplicate
I’d agree but not impossible, 🤙🏻
What’s the music at the very beginning
just presets 🤙🏻
Real nice job on the overiders, goes to show what a bit of hard work with basic tools can produce 👍🏼
Thanks 🤙🏻 mate , after an hour it becomes a metal meditation..
Looks perfect if ya made it out of stainless u only gotta polish it save $$ on chrome 👍
Right on I recon it would work🤙🏻
I watched it twice to get the details. Great Job. Question? What is the copper coating you put on after/before you weld the new pieces on. 🙂 Rob
ha cheers rob , the copper weld through primer you can source from any paint supplier..bit pricey. but amazing stuff .. as it carries copper flake its best to seal it all after aswell paint of choice . just an expensive primer you can weld straight through mate
Your tool worked out good done Nice shape
Right on cheers definitely beats down the shapes
Awesome, are you getting that part chromed later on?
not at this stage , there quite a bit I’d like chromed up . I recon pulling all the parts together towards the end of build ,
g'day mate i'm a bit late to the party, only just found your vids and enjoy them very much as it is very much inline with what i do. i have rodded 2 jailbars so have a bit of knowledge about them ....re the bonnet emblem google a thing called ....... muggy weld ....be surprised at what you can do with it and for the gauge panel for what it would take to make it usable a repo one would be cheap cheers joe
Welcome aboard! I’ll look into this muggy weld cheers , iv been looking at the 37 speedos aftermarket they are relatively good priced and hold the original look , not to keen on cutting out the dash on the 37 , the two gauge dash looks mint, I haven’t been able to find aftermarket gauges for the 41 though..
Well done sir !
🤙🏻 thanks for tuning in
Not bad mate can I give you one tip when your making things like this give yourself extra metal and before you put in the beads and stuff pre stretch your metal as when putting the shape in then you have metal there that will take instead of the panel shrinking from each side.
cheers Wayne the old pre stretch technique definitely helps. 🤙🏻
@WingitCustoms all good mate , loving your builds so far 👍
