Yeah, I had already forgotten how many compromises I had to make with this model. It looks pretty straightforward, until you actually start cutting in things.

I think yo nailed it in the head. Well, on a couple of points, but mostly that painting felt a lot more fun. I'm using them on a new project and they are still very usable and enjoyable. Not a fluke!

Thanks for the feedback. I'll admit I struggle to find the balance between informative and expressiveness. Perhaps if I do another one of this model kit I'll try for a shorter format.

Probably, but I would go bigger if I could. I don't remember what size I used for the armigers (i mentioned it in the video), but it was probably 4 or 5mm. You could probably get away with it, but the joint would be loose and liable to disconnect when you touched it. But if it is all you have, it will do.

Yeah, exploration is half the fun. It can get pricy though. I finally picked up the Speed Paint 2.0 to see how much better these are. I have medium hopes =)

I probably have to go thinner with those paints and use more layers. That's the plan for the repaint. I hope it works!

Glad to have helped motivate your new project. It's probably one of the easiest magetization projects I've had. I recently completed 2 more without magnets and honestly, they are way more posable with magnets.

It really is almost impossible to know what GW plans to do with "out of stock" models. They aren't transparent about what is a one and done release and what they plan to continue to keep in the range. I honestly can't tell if it is a strategic plan to leverage fear of missing out or if it just bad planning.

Glad I could help. This is a great kit, but magnetizing is a pain. I know others have done it, but it's probably not for beginners.

Yeah, I've come across a few nasty errors in the instructions. I used to get pretty upset about it, but I've just learned to accept it. I'm probably giving GW a pass, but at least they make plastic toys as opposed to say airplanes, or pharmaceuticals.

I don't have any experience with kit specific magnet sets, so I couldn't say one way or the other. I will say that if this is your first magnetization project, getting a kit like this is probably a decent approach. My preference is to have a variety of disk magnet sizes on hand so I can magnetize any kit I want, but that takes time and a bit of money so it may not be the best approach for everyone. What I will say is take a good look at the joints you are trying to magnetize. Measure it up so you can use the largest magnet that can fit the available space. You will never regret having too strong a connection, but the opposite is too often true.

So you're out of the closet at work? That's pretty awesome! I know a few people at work I can trust with this sort of personal tidbit. Mostly because they collect Lego, or Star Wars figures, or something similar. The rest of my coworkers have no idea how big a nerd I am. Heck, I don't even tell women I'm dating until I have a decent sense for how chill they are.

It looked like a pretty awesome place! I wish there was a store like that near me, but I'll make sure to pay them another visit next time I'm in Dallas (I'm usually there once or twice a year).

I am very curious about what you found interesting about the video. I have a sense for what I want to accomplish when I make one, but I don't really know what my viewers get out of it- not really. So your feedback would be insightful. Also, you might not already know this, but Warhammer 40K minis are famous for being addictive. There's a real danger you'll end up with a shelf full of plastic crack in a few months. So I want to apologize in advance =P

And I just realized you bought the lamp, not the mini. That's probably for the best, LOL!

No gimmicks or speaking too much on the specs that we can all see ourselves on their website. I wanted to see it in action on a normal setting and that’s exactly what you gave us. Thank you again. I did buy it, they sent it to me within the week and I absolutely love it. Now I just have to fight the urge to buy a second one to put on the opposite side of my desk for the ultimate lighting. Haha.

Cable connections and ammo feeds are the bane of most magnetizing projects in 40k. Sometimes they are fine without a connection (they end up in the right place), but mostly they are a pain.

@@YourAverageBearGaming yeah problem I'm having is lascannon piece when stored breaks on that flimsy connection. And I'm never adding magnets to cables again after fully magnetizing 6 centurions with options for assault and devastator

I may have to give this another look. I've heard mostly people saying it's a tougher project than usual, but a few people have mentioned it is easy. Maybe it's a difference in experience?

I mean, it's absolutely possible. I think I saw someone post a RUclips video where they did it and it looked good. It just seemed finicky AF. My opinion: We're better off not doing it. Unless you're really good at it, or really enjoy this type of challenge. For the rest of us, nah.

Glad this helped! I rather enjoy magnetizing these because they are so big. Bigger parts like these are more forgiving, allow you to use beefier magnets and just hold up better. Out of curiosity, what tools are you missing? If you don't have a rotary tool, it will be VERY useful for any magnetizing project and a decent kit won't set you back too much. Well worth it, IMO.

I've tossed this idea around and I do something like this to magnetize my models to their display case. If you don't mind me asking, where do you buy ferrous metal for projects like this? I've bought a few metal disks and bearings and it turns out not all materials are magnetic- but you don't find out until you already paid for them.

Those Deathguard looked SO COOL. I didn't pick them up since I am not a fan of Chaos armies, but they looked amazing.

I've been tempted a couple of times, but I don't really have the space for all the machines and chemicals. More to the point, I don't think I have the patience. A buddy of mine sent me a pic of his 3D printed Imperial Knight collection and it looked AMAZING!

@@YourAverageBearGaming I hear you my man. Truth be told is I still buy GW sprues from my local game store. I'm spending more and more time doing digital-kit bashing and am falling in love with all the options for customization 3d printing brings to the table. It's not just about sticking it to Geedubs. That said, if the models everyone wants remain out of stock then many are going to have to consider other routes. 3d printing is one of many ways to get your models. Nice work on the video, just subscribed!

HAHA! Yeah, I figured it was possible, but it looked like a huge pain. I wasn't feeling it and I thought it was kind of a big project for a beginner (that's who I usually make my videos for).

And they keep making and promoting amazing new flavors we can't buy.

I don't actually play the game, so I haven't had to deal with the kind of tragedy you've described. Getting stuff shipped to Australia sounds like an expensive, whole new ball of wax.

I was looking forward to the new Striking Scorpions kit. But I missed the pre-order announcement and everything was sold out when I checked. I think I was like a day late...

I've heard of people dropping minis and watching them shatter when they hit the ground. But having them run over by a car is a new one for me. Sounds painful. What Warhammer Cafe did you visit in Texas? I live in the state and am always looking for cool new stores to visit.

I mean, all they would have to do is to do a better job projecting demand. If they slightly exceed the demand target they would knock the scalpers right out. And it's not like they would lose a ton of money on each extra kit... each one probably costs pennies to manufacture. Most of the expense for this type of product is in RnD (in this case artists and 3D modelers).

I know I am not rational about proxies. Hell, I don't even play the game so it wouldn't matter. Still... I have a hard time making the jump.
