  • Update: I just saw Army Painter's Speedpaint 2.0 announcement and that modifies my conclusions a bit. I'm still posting this because a most people out there still have Speedpaint 1.0 and this is relevant.
Will using a varnish over painted layers stop Army Painter Speedpaints from reactivating or bleeding through?
Yes. Yes, it does. Want to see the actual test and my conclusions? Click on the video!

AP made lots of public acknowledgements here on RUclips leading up to one released this week on Speed Paint 2.0. They have been talking about this publicly at least for 4 months.

So I went back to check and you might be right. There's a bunch of AP videos I missed after their "We are listening" video. It's possible they mentioned the reactivation issue in those and I missed them. Crap.
I've got some homework to do.

@@YourAverageBearGaming I don't want to dismiss the problems you encountered because your experiences are real and I have not had 100% success with the line either. When they look good, they look good, and when they reactivated, not so good. I watched each of your videos on the topic because I was interested in learning how you were going to solve it. For me, extra long drying worked, but I have a spray can of varnish at the ready.

There will be 3.0 just when you get 2.0

@@pdubb9754 That's what baffled me about these paints. I have seen pro painters do some amazing work with them. So was I doing something wrong with them, or were they doing something extra?
As with so many things, it's probably a combination of things. But I was really bothered by so many community leaders discounting the phenomenon. So I wanted to demonstrate that if you are encountering a problem, you aren't crazy or alone.

@@TheKamilkrawczak I really hope 2.0 works well. AP is a great company and I want to see them continue to succeed.
But maybe they could hire more testers and fewer PR goons?

But I don't think you've been paying much attention not only did they address the property of reactivation they said that they are listening actively listening to the community Some people like reactivation some people don't that is why they created speed paint 2.0 And they're taking preorders for the Mega paint set we also know what the colors are Also watch it painted just released a video that showed the reactivation property is still there but has a small window and dries fully

I have absolutely missed a few things. No question. The "apology video" I've talked about before didn't mention reactivation, only the separation from their normal acrylic line.
But there was the 2.0 announcement (which I think is neat) and other videos where they work with pro painters that I STILL haven't watched because I'm slacking.
For the record, I've let Speedpaint dry for a full 24 hours before and I still got "reactivation." At that point, I don't think reactivation is the right term for it. Granted, they might never have anticipated people wanting to layer over the speedpaint, but I don't think any other "contrast" paint or acrylic paint behaves the same way. That's a design flaw, not a feature.

You do realize the AP apology video wasn't even about the speedpaint it was about their notorious difficult paint to mix.
Speedpaint 2.0 is addressing the reactivation thing. Again its a mixed issue. Some people seem to love the reactivation because they can wet blend while others hate it and complain. They're a company so why should they apologize if some people seem to like the reactivation? The fact they are addressing the issue shows they care about feedback and want to fix the issue to avoid bad feedback. Yeah the speedpaint reactivation is an issue but they are addressing it, what more do you want from them You? You overcrticial of AP, I mean compared to other companies AP is amazing with their community not like GW or even Vallejo which their community doesn't even exist

I think I have been pretty evenhanded about my criticisms, but that's a matter of opinion so I can see where we might disagree. Pointing out there's an issue and testing whether or not it IS an issue isn't unfair (IMO).
I can see that they are addressing the reactivating issue with the development of Seedpaint 2.0. But I didn't see any explicit mention of reactivation, at least on RUclips. Maybe there's a whole dialog happening on Twitter or something, but I don't Twitter, so there's that.

@@YourAverageBearGaming its in 2.0 video from last month. They don't explicitly say it but the words Reactivation pops up.
So they are fixing it and show a test between 1.0 and 2.0.
The fact AP is even addressing this is a wonderful thing. Not like GW which downsized their washes pot sizes so you get less for your money. No company is perfect but AP is probably the best company that does want their customers happy and markets well

@@lifeinjersey9846 Yeah, I saw AP released the 2.0 announcement video literally as I was uploading this video. I posted anyway because 1.0 is what most people have, so it was still useful.
I also missed a few other videos where AP worked with community testers on Speedpaints... That's what I get for not clicking on the notifications bell I guess.
At this point I am wondering if I should address all these things I missed in another video, or stop beating the dead horse. Honestly, I'm not sure which way to go.
