    Great content. I'll check through your library, but whats the method to remove a peened tang?

    • @DynamoSwordChannel
      @DynamoSwordChannel 3 дня назад

      @@Ryan-ob6gp much more difficult, you basically have to re-heat the peen and get it soft enough to remove the pommel. It's easier to just re-wrap the grip with the pommel still peened, unless you really want to remove the grip and replace it. Even then on keyed tangs it's more simple to remove the grip with the peen intact and sandwich method the new grip as the Peened Pommel will stay in place.

    Is it rigid enough? The other rapier with the same hilt is supposedly very floppy. I bought a hanwei replacement blade for a custom rapier and was very disappointed: blade is 6mm at the base has perfect distal taper and is still very floppy, point was bend and the secondary bevels are done at a 45° angle and the blade does not spring back to true entirety

      It is, it has flex but not whippy at all compared to others I've handled, completely different blade than the 17th Century Italian Rapier, just the same hilt.

    Hah. I saw bearing swords when I went to the Leeds Armory Museum years ago. I thought they looked cool as all hell but forgot what they were called and could never find more information on them. I find more info on them a couple of hours ago after it popping in to my memory and remembering that I have chatgpt now and then you mention them too. What an odd coincidence. If I were to buy a decorative sword to hang on a wall it would be one of those. They just look so impressive.

    Nice review! It answered some questions I had about the Windlass version. As for the threaded tang/steel tube grip, I would avoid using the sword for cutting anything more solid than plastic water bottles or tatami mats. Hitting a pell will most likely cause vibrations that might result in the pommel falling off, the threads being a potential failure point.

    IIRC, the Albion version is more historical in function and the actual prop was an aluminum alloy made thick which was why it is too heavy.

  • @xXxCatsnakexXx
    @xXxCatsnakexXx 21 день назад

    Aluminium castings AND hollow, with an aggressively distal-tapered blade & much deeper fuller is the way to go. Having the bevels look the same as this version, AFTER distal tapering would be the only challenging part.

    I would love for you to do a video of the sword that the late Jody Samson supervised making at Albion Armory. I wish I had ordered one when they were first released, because they are even more expensive now. My issue with the sword you are reviewing right now is that the size is not correct. The Atlantean sword from the first Conan film had a pretty small handle. Arnold was not able to grip it with both hands. That is why the sword had some changes to it in the second film.

    • @DynamoSwordChannel
      @DynamoSwordChannel 23 дня назад

      It's the same size, yes they extended the handle of the Destroyer Film Sword, but that also shows in the Albion version as well. Arnold griped the Barbarian Film Sword two handed, it shows especially when he grips it in the Witch's Hut and during his training after being resurrected by Akiro. It would be nice to have one of those but like you their price is out of my reach.

    What's the significance of the point of balance?

    • @DynamoSwordChannel
      @DynamoSwordChannel 23 дня назад

      It's the balance point of the sword and where it centers to the overall weight of the sword. A more forward (closer to the tip) P.O.B is going to make the sword more tip heavy and I general feel heavier in hand. A more back (closer to the guard) P.O.B is going to feel less heavy and more light in hand.

    • @spock_elvis
      @spock_elvis 23 дня назад

      @@DynamoSwordChannel Ok. Thanks. I wonder if it's difficult for the swordsmith to figure out were the point of balance will be while in the process of making a sword.

    • @DynamoSwordChannel
      @DynamoSwordChannel 23 дня назад

      It could be depending on their experience, there's a lot of factors that can change point of balance, overall weight, distal and profile taper, as well as the weight of the guard and pommel. Fullering can also effect point of balance.

      @DynamoSwordChannel thanks a lot, Iam not in the US, but Europe, can see though that it is available here as well, overall, was split whether to get the Marto or Windlass edition, but seeing that the pommel can be polished on the Windlass, then its decided. • @DynamoSwordChannel

It was his quirk. He was paranoid about everything, a conspiracy theorist and a rabid flat Toril-er "if Toril isn't flat explain maps" he was also convinced his family was kidnapped by tiny goblins flying dinner plates, like magic carpets, after his family vanished after telling him to wait in the town square until they get back. Though the Albion is a very nice piece, for the price, I think I would have been just as happy with this version, not to mention $2000+ richer! I did, however, consider getting the WIndlass scabbard for my Abion, but after looking into it, there seemed to be some minor size differences that would prohibit it from fitting the Albion. Also I bought two of the Windlass Royal Armouries swords the 14th Century Long Sword and the 15th Century Two-Handed Sword so should have both of those reviews out in the upcoming weeks. From what I've heard it's a good sword, heavy like the Atlantean but not as heavy and we'll built. I'll let you know when I end up buying one and when a review it!

      @@DynamoSwordChannel how about his dad's sword after the Atlantean sword snapped it in half. I'd hang that on my wall. Maybe a replica head of Thulsa Doom alongside. ❤️

    I myself started with an old Highlander stainless steel display sword that I was given as a birthday present about 25 years ago. Thankfully, I didn't try cutting anything more than cardboard boxes with it. It wasn't until much later that I acquired my first real sword from a mall shop that was going out of business, an Onikiri katana that may have been a step up from their usual baseline models, though still 1045 steel, but with a better heat treatment and better fittings. I've had it for nine years and handled it a lot, ito is still tight, habaki and tsuba still tight, and even the saya still holds the sword in when turned up. Most of my collection are budget ranged price. The only one that isn't is The Vindaaris from DSA.

      Nice, yea I think most of us have started in that phase regarding being sword collectors. My first sword too was a cheap Flea Market Katana with red nylon ito and a silkly embroidered saya that looked like one of the presentation boxes most mid tier functional katana come with. My first real sword was a birthday gift when I was 14 and is the Deepeeka 1860 Saber. You can see it in my collection video as I still own it. First Functional sword I ever bought was a Hanwei Practical Katana in 2003.

    If one wants a better-looking historical sword for the price of a Marto you might as well buy a Windlass and then spray clear coat on it; either some high gloss enamel or polyurethane.

      True but sometimes the glitz and glam of the Marto swords have appeal to enthusiasts. If not they'd had went out of business decades ago. Sometimes Shiny sells, lol!

      @@DynamoSwordChannel true. I was kind of watching and cooking at the same time I wrote that 😂 what I meant to say was "..a better, historical looking" not " "..a better-looking historical". By that I mean that many of the Marto swords are very decorative and gaudy which certainly appeals to some people. But if one wants a sword that is less decorated with simple and clean lines then Windlass might be a better choice.

      Yea I agree too just added it to place similarity between the Characters from the film standpoint since Howard always affiliated Conan as being a decedent or the Cimmerians themselves decedents of Atlanteans.

    Marto is owned by Windlass

    • @DynamoSwordChannel
      @DynamoSwordChannel Месяц назад

      Yes but they still sell swords as Marto brand. Pretty much Windlass bought Marto for two things, the Conan film sword License and to have a European based store front to sell in that area of the world. Toledo is like the Lonquan of Europe and there are quite a few smith's and sellers operating there.

      @@DynamoSwordChannel very true. Also some of the Marto hilts get fitted with Windlass blades for sale in the US (not sure about elsewhere). Also for a time on the Museum Replica website one could find some swords that were very clearly Marto hilts but they wlhad functional Windlass blades. Their "Eric the Red sword" was one. You can still find the description on the museum replicas website if you search "Windlass Eric the Red" & find the page (it will say on the page discontinued). However searching on the MRL site itself only the Marto & Marto letter opener show up. The description for the hybrid was "This Viking sword has a high carbon steel blade with a wide fuller. The pommel and guard have been lavishly sculpted with sea dragons and intricate knotwork. The wooden grip is covered in black leather and has three knotwork rings. Includes black leather scabbard with beautiful antiqued brass hardware and a leather baldric belt." The grip was different than the Marto version but it's definitely the Marto hilt. It was $350 where the Marto with stainless blade is $295.
