When you throw the blades DONT LET GO OF THE CHAINS. You let the chains slide down your hand giving you control of how long and how crazy the chains can get. Keep em short unless going for a twirl and you can end the twirls by slamming em on the ground. Watch how Kratos pulls on the chains to change their directions and how he lets the weight do all of the work. You seem like you’re fighting the chains and blades to do what you want.

The 'blade' is still omnidirectional...you can't make something hot enough to melt through steel not be. They are science, not magic, though the kyber crystal sort of bridges the gap a bit between the science and force aspects a bit...but still. She shape of of the blade would just give it a slimmer profile on one axis, which would make it a far better 'cutter' on that axis and than any lightsaber that is thicker.

I watched Star Wars in the Theater in 1977, so I've been a star wars fan for a long time. It seems to me that the Dark Saber is a throwback weapon. A weapon designed before the 'cuts in all directions' style of sabers were available. To me that is very confusing and in may ways silly.

I think you're forgetting the fact that Light Sabers are typically only ever found in the hands of a Jedi or a Sith lord. It's not like anyone just has the choice of picking a light saber over the DarkSaber. And George Lucas has said that light sabers are pretty unwieldly when they're on, that's why people need to use 2 hands, most of the time.

See, the darksaber fricks with me cause I ALWAYS expect the blade to point the other way, in line with where the guard is, well, guarding. whole thing just looks backwards and frankly, ugly as it is. What happens if you choke down on with the closed position and try to hit with the blade close to the pivot?

I feel a flaming blades main strength would be prolonged contact. Not laying against them, but something like 1-2 seconds of contact per strike. Sure your wounds would be partially cauterized, but the potential damage internally, with the heat preventing any proper treatment would be *crazy* with a heated weapon.

I think its wrong to compare the darksaber to other sabers. I dont know the exact lore how its made but i think its a upscaled version of the normal cutting knifes they have in the starwars universe. I dont think it has a real crystal in it, and more of a artificially made one.

I have a theory. Lightsabers have weight, a LOT of it given the way it's swung about. That the ignited blade gains weight. Notice how in the hand it's effortless and light, until the saber is lit. Flicking the blade around is equivalent of flicking about a full weight sword. That leads my theory that the blade itself is a super plasma contained in special magnetic field. That the plasma has weight. That the containment field is provided by the Kyber Crystal which is what effects the blade color. And you will notice, repeatedly in the story, the Dark Saber is HEAVY. Everyone talks about how heavy it is when they ignite it. Giving the impression that it slowly, steadily gets heavier when it's ignited. Not by a huge amount but it ever grows. The thinner side to side, thicker end to end allows more space for an object to pass through the plasma. The purpose being that the Darksaber is a heavy cleaver. A chopper. That its weight is meant for blasting into an opponents defenses and maximizing weight behind the strikes. That those who use it never use it with a light hand or grace but are always chopping, always cleaving. A Mandalorian Metaphor about always driving forward. A less elegant design, but largely a symbolic design. I have a small challenge for you, a fast one. Mentally picture your favorite lightsaber battle. And ask yourself how much their blades weigh by the way they're moving around with them. How far they're blows bite into each other and how much weight is being driven back and forth. This may change a bit of how you view that fight. Jedi and Sith both often favor power styles with fencing style blades being rare, smaller and often easily knocked around. Such as how Dark Sidius and Count Dooku used their lighter blades to flick around other sabers. I'd say their sabers are in the Rapier Range while Anikin and Obi-Wan are more traditional long-sword myself.

I don't even like the story of the dark saber. Star Wars Rebels says the saber was built by the first mandalorian turned jedi and was "liberated" from the jedi temple after his death. So, a proud warrior race grave robbed a jedi convert and somehow made his weapon a symbol of mandalorian leadership AFTER it's been carried by the leaders of the Deathwatch terrorist group. How does that make sense?

Personally I choose to believe the Darksaber blade is shaped the way it is as a matter of personal whimsy, being built by the only Mandalorian to join the Jedi Order, he may have been mirroring a physical weapon that he was already familiar with. Claiming the edge to be "stronger" than a standard lightsaber is an effectively moot point given how strong a standard lightsaber already is (I don't consider severing a guy's arm in a bar fight to be a particularly restrained weapon when even the friggin' Empire has stun guns) This does not excuse the backwards guard, of course, or the magical heaviness that nobody besides Din ever had to put up with, and even Din doesn't unless the sword is powered on. That implies a separate will at work. So, what, the handle hides a tiny midichlorian aquarium inside of it, and they were cool with Gideon? Yeah, that makes no sense. It's like somebody didn't realize that InuYasha's Tetsusaiga doesn't belong in Star Wars.

Crappy design or not, It opens the lore for the creation of the best lightsaber ever by introducing Saber-resistant Beskar as part of the construction. If they want to continue to use it 2-handed like a Katana Instead of its namesake Sabre, the laser longsword cross-guard like Kylo made, was dumb. A massively trimmed-down version of the Inquisitor's knuckle bow, in Beskar like a 2-handed Swiss saber would be way better. It would be Even Better if they used them 1-handed and cast 1-piece Transitional Rapier/Spadroon/Beefy Smallsword Hilt/Guards from Beskar. I think a 1-piece oval cast Beskar Hilt shell with a shaped ricasso/ usable finger rings, Cross guard, with knuckle bow, Large Side rings extending off it double shell guards above the finger rings would be awesome.

I tend to agree with the fact that the dark saber is really uncomfortable and awkward. I hate the handle . Also I have to say that I agree with the fact that lightsabers have low weight and that's why I believe that Vader's saber was meant to be handled by the bottom of the hilt where the rubber is. Reason being that u get the most range out of the sword while the ignition button, or slide, is within thumb range. The rubber prevents slipping. Thanks for the video Tyranth! My best guess is that since the darksaber in lore is a status symbol blade, maybe the single-edge-edness is more of a flex? Yes, *YOU* can use any weapon angle to fight, but *I* can and will beat you using only one.

You should do Raizo's kyoketsu shoge/chain blade from "Ninja Assassin"... Apparently the actor Rain figured out how to actually use it and became pretty good with it even though it just seems impossible to wield properly as depicted onscreen.

I agree with what you are saying. However to be fair the reason in universe for the overall design and blade style is because it is mandalorian. It fits the culture and combat style. Is it ideal? No but it fits how their people would be trained with basic metal weapons.

Well technically Darksaber blade is double-edged, so it doesn't matter which way you hold the handle, you can flip it how it fits you. You can even melt with the flat surface of the blade.

Yes, any lightsaber could theoretically cut through Beskar if applied long enough, however certain kyber crystals and certain lightsabers are indeed more powerful than others. The darksaber is documented in canon to be more powerful than your typical Jedi lightsaber.

If I remember correctly, Pre Vizsla was originally suppose to use a viroblade to fight Obi-Wan, however David Filoni chose to create a unique light saber instead after John Favreau was cast that why the dark saber has an edge as it was based off a viroblade. The weight of the lightsaber isn't explained until Star Wars Rebel were Kanan was training Sabine to use the dark saber, it was basically that the wielder need to bond with the kyber crystal to make it lighter.

My favourite lightsaber handle is the Hacksmith saber handle >> I would love to see you use it honestly The biggest issue with the darksaber is that they're trying to make the antithesis to the lightsaber and in order to do that, they'd have to make a black hole on a stick because there's no such thing as black light. Even in their world. So this is what we get lmfao The only way you'd get black flames or anything like that is with a sodium lamp and only with combustion-based light.

I dont know if it holds any truth, but as to why it may make sense that the darksaber is shaped differently is that in comparison to every other lightsaber we see its much much older. It was made over 1000 years before the Empire was formed after the fall of the Republic. Also before lightsabers were a thing and even after many people used Vibroswords. And seeing as it was created by a mandalorian, someone who probably used vibroswords a decent amount they may have created it to a similar design to what they were familiar with. All this, accept how old it is, is completely speculation on my part but think it makes a bit of sense, its probably designed differently because its an ancient lightsaber.

Strange, I never took the Darksabre to be directly inspired by a katana, it always looked more like a genuine sabre to me.

Lightsaber weight has been changed a lot through canon. At first they were completely weightless so having the force made it easier to not slice your own limbs off. I don't know if its specific to the darksaber but in a rebels episode where sabine is training with the darksaber she says its a lot heavier than shed have expected. I also imagine the force helps compensate for for this but its definitely not needed as its just another weapon. And to your point about it being flat is stupid. Yeah for the most part youre right. The only thing i can think of is that lightsabers arent all powerful. They dont cut through all heavy materials like butter. I imagine having a proper edge would make its cutting abilities a lot stronger. And the shape isnt anything really lore breaking. Theyve had weird shaped lightsabers in legends and now we have the lightwhip in canon which also makes zero sense.

And it only exists because George didn't like vibroblades being able to withstand saber strikes despite them being part of his setting for more than a decade prior. An unnecessary injection that only cheapened the setting.

Darksaber is meant for dueling individuals nor warfare, its ability to destroy mandolorian metal because the heat is focused on one single edge or point. The kyber crystal has a will of its own effects, both wielder and opponents. Thru out rebels and Mando they talked about swords affect on people.

Honestly, any lightsaber type weapon, other than maybe a spear, would be a pretty bad weapon for a non-Jedi. It's a weapon that has an above average chance of hurting its user and nearby friendlies, because of that 360 degree blade that cuts through anything. And that's why the spear is a maybe as well... definitely don't want to be using that in formation, for example.
