      Except it's not. If it was just a torch it'd cook the wielders from the amount of heat it's giving off. It has to use some kind of mechanism that only gives off heat when it's hitting something. Antimatter contained within some kind of shield seems like the simplest candidate for creating a glowing pillar of something with the unique property of not creating heat until it's in direct contact with regular matter.

      Except the hacksmiths blowtorch isn't a lightsaber and finally they are admitting to it. I doubt we will ever get a real one since in the real world it would have to be a plasma held by a magnetic force.

    5:59 surround the base with a ceramic ring or glass. Then wrap it in leather. It won't stop the hilt from heating up but it will take the heat away from your hand.
    Other opinions is to put cooling fins on it. This spreads the heat an is basically how your lawnmower works when removing heat.

      You mean like a vibroblade from Star Wars? Closest I can think of are ultrasonic knives

    • @kikixchannel
      @kikixchannel 5 месяцев назад

      I think those might be...rather dangerous to make. If they are to vibrate at a rate which could actually have a chance to help, not only would said vibrations be a problem for the device itself (risking the blade coming loose, for example), but more importantly...they could really cause damage to the user. High vibrations can literally cripple someone holding onto said vibrating items.

    • @Ash-Winchester
      @Ash-Winchester 5 месяцев назад

      @@kikixchannel Not if it's made right.

    • @kikixchannel
      @kikixchannel 5 месяцев назад

      @@Ash-Winchester Vibrations have to go somewhere. It's impossible to make a vibrating blade and not have something eat said vibrations. Stronger vibrations = more needs to be done to negate them. While you can most certainly wear gloves and have said material eat the vibrations to some extent, vibrations of the degree that would be necessary for you to have any real positive impact (possibly) on the cutting capacity, would be too strong for such a simple solution to do anything more than barely decrease them.
      In case you weren't aware, a larger group of people marching at just the right rate can take down literally any bridge. A few hundredths of kilograms of people can raze a bridge weighting thousandths of tons. Of course, the vibrations need to be exactly right for this, but I give this as an example of how destructive vibrations can be.
      I stand by what I said. Vibrating blade is more dangerous and harder to do than a mock-up lightsaber. Remember. A 1kg+ blade is not the same as a few grams that the head of a toothbrush or electric razor weights. To vibrate it at a high rate you need way more energy, and that means that there is way more energy that you need to cancel.

    Real lightsabers can't give off heat until they interact with something. As such they cannot be just a pillar of regular plasma/fire. Personally, my best bet is on an antimatter gas or plasma within some kind of shielding that upon impact with something gives off crazy amounts of heat until the object is destroyed/cut.

    yep the real problem with all this 'real lightsaber' talk is how to get a 3 foot (1 meter) long coherent plasma stream - without you know.. housing it in industrial equipment the size of a truck!
    There are real lightsaber 'blades' out there... have been for years - but as im sure you know they are HUGE, EXPENSIVE and generally used in heavy industry.
    Ive thought for a long time that we all might have better success at making a lightsaber like sword by looking at arc welding tech rather than oxy or butane type things - of course that would mean a physical sword not an energy beam but still - I feel its more likely to be possible. More of a 40k powersword than a starwars lightsaber.

    Dude it's not even good enough to be a mini plasma cutter or oxy accetiline torch. It's simply to small to cut steel.
    Plasma cutters use electrical arc an gas to create a cutting of up to 6000 degrees Celsius. Similar to a arc welder.
    An a Oxy accetiline torch goes to around 3500 degrees Celsius in a controlled heating an cutting using gas.
    A little toy like this is probably good In a survival kit to light fires or make crude weapons but not much more.
