@@ScreenTested I think, biggest problem with implementation of idea of spring loaded hidden blade was the blade. Works better when you dressed as a monk or a noble, and not a mercenary with half of city arsenal on him. Situation B: "Sneaking stealth". Best shown in games when you act as ambush predator from hiding place, but applicable to just sneaking up to someone. Hidden blade allows to stab and grab in exactly same motion (especially for old-school assassin with removed finger allowing to close the fist around the blade), to drag and hide body. I'd like to address the comment about the knife not locking and how if it had a lock you might as well use a fixed blade. Out the front automatic knives (OTF's) do lock. They have a pretty clever locking mechanism that keeps the blade from sliding back when stabbing and I'd recommend looking into it. It wouldn't make any sense without a lock.

Well ironically there's a lot you've got wrong there. I've been designing them as a hobby for years now and I can tell you, the only thing I would agree with is the slicing and stabbing power, that's it. In-game hidden blades aren't usually spring loaded like that. They have more like a mechanical type system. They basically act like a additional limb, like a part of your body that extends and retracts all the way while you tell them to by flexing your arm or wrist muscles, not shoot out like a crossbow when you push a button with the other hand and then have to reload it again manually. They stay locked in both positions so you can stab with full force or hid it in your sleeve without risk of it flying out when you swing your arm or something. Thats a huge benefit over the fixblade because, as I tested it with my own designs, you can basically extend, stab and retract it in like one point something second with no problem and you do not have to use your other hand for it, it just works by twisting a wrist, you literally can have anything in that hand while you do it, even hold another knife and you wont waste any time trying to put it back in its sheath, it hides itself. And that is another benefit. The "officially licensed" ones aren't even that faithful to the games. Even the one that you used was much larger in the game, it was thinner and had bevels on the whole blade, not only on the edges like the shitty replicas so of cource whey would cut better. It was actually so long that they had to hide its model in the assassin's arm so it wouldn't stick out from the back. Thats why the telescopic blades exist. You can pack much more blade length into the shorter housing while folded comparing to the single piece blades that would have to be short or stick out from your wrist wich is stupid and uncomfortable. The replicas fail even with that. Oh and you wouldn't be even near cutting your finger off as it activates when you flick your wrist so there is no risk of misfire and you literally move your hand out of the blades way. Yes, they did show one such accident in the game with the canonically first ever usage of it on the underside of the arm but it makes no sense from the mechanical point of view, they just had to show it as it was mentioned in the earlier games. Of course it's not fully possible to recreate it in the real world but there are many substitute variants that for example use a string connected to a finger for the activation motion I just mentioned. I loved the video! Awesome to see a new series:) Thought a fun idea could be to have a visual slider on screen for the rating system at the end, that you could place each weapon or tool on, and then you could easily compare to previous videos in the future.
Awesome! Just found out you have channel man! Since you've already covered double bladed swords could you talk about the War Glaives from world of Warcraft? Their design is ridiculous so it would be cool too see you cover them
Tyranth, I'll say it, totally expecting backlash. Your content is better than knights watch and Shadiverstiy. Simply because you're non-biased in the videos. Keep it up man. Love the work.
Great work, Tyranth! Best of luck with the new channel - I like the idea of seeing work done on the weapons. Any thoughts on using a wrist-mounted spring SHEATH to pop a fixed blade into your hand? Not as an attack, but as a way to hide and quickly draw a weapon? Steampunk awesomeness, or a great way to slit your own wrists?
You looked like a maniac when stabbing that water bottle. I don’t mean that in a negative way. 😅 Good video format, love the mix of game geekiness, realistic perspective, actually making things!
As a prelude--I didn't read any but the most recent comments, so there is that. First, you did a very credible job working up this video...including the mods, the tests and the analysis. Second, a couple of thoughts. An aluminum blade could be used--based on a T6 or 6066, both of which are used in knife making, or perhaps a san-mai blade, which likely could be forged to meet the size/weight parameters. You are correct that the fuller (the groove in the center) was for weight reduction. As for the use of the word GLAVE to describe the weapon...again, you are correct. Traditionally, the glave is a curved pole weapon, though, in some uses (poetry, notably), it was used to denote a short sword and occasionally a two-bladed "knife". One source seems to indicate KRULL sorta expanded that concept to the KRULL quint switchblade, fusing a throwing star with a boomerang. So, overall...I'd rank this video...well, a 10 out of 10.
A pretty good and entertaining video, congratulations. I also saw the video with Shad and nate, and i think you guys get one thing wrong: you have to truly train and get used to the blade where it is, under the forearm, you constantly want to go Wolverine with it, closing the fist to hit. You have to do like rikishi (sumo) palm slaps and let the blade do its work.
Didn't realise this channel existed but was recommended to me so that's encouraging in terms of algorithm for the channel :). Nice job with the vid, really enjoyed it.
great video! I do agree as a stabber it does well. I had thought that a non-spring blade that you manually extended in a track on a brace or gauntlet would work better. It is not the original concept, might work better as a future upgrade to to the blade if it ever gets revisited.
RUclips recommendations was actually doing it's job for once. Funnily enough, I just finished listening to the Shadiversity video y'all uploaded today. I'll have to watch this vid tomorrow though. It's past midnight, and I gotta get some sleep.
yeah even the people who made hidden blade props dont know how to make it properly. so easily fixable that its funny. also as a parkourist.. it works much better Eivor style(on top of the wrist) than under the wrist. ALSO in game they are gravity.. not spring loaded.(they made these toys cheaply lol) Gravity with two safety systems i should say. they trigger not only from gravity but from specific forearm muscle tensing (some weird alien tech bs lore wise)
I always thought this would be amazing Till I remembered that people bleed. Meaning if you stab someone, a bloody blade is going back in the chamber and it'll ruin the mechanism. Also blood on your hands and sleeve
So glad to see you have your own channel now, hope it gives you room to flourish and I look forward to seeing more! Broadly you're right on all of your points. Suggestion being is it might fit more securely fully strapped to a well fitted gauntlet (and protect the fingies!) couldn't slide up the arm then - but it is a slight step away from cannon. It'd basically be a push dagger only without a handle per-say. Still be a terrible cutter/slasher though Only one thing you got wrong... Al-uh-min-yum Not A-looOOOoooOOOOoOOOO-min-um Best of luck with the new channel!
A knife also weighs less then the hidden blade thing. Also, for assassins, they may want to discard their weapon to hid in the crowd. A knife would get less blood on their sleeve then the hidden blade and it's not tied to them. Lastly, throwing. An assassin would probably throw a weapon as a distraction to enable their escape if needed.
.....This reminds me of a gun that was issued during WWII which attached to a glove and went off when you punched someone. It can be hidden and really effective at killing people at close range. The problem in the blood from the victim gets all over the assassin royally blowing a person's cover. No matter how conceable you make the device or how effective it is, the fist gun and AC wrist will that problem since it is attached to the assasin, making to dispose of the murder weapon and a high likihood you'll to dispose of your clothes.
@@PJDAltamirus0425 The only arm/wrist mounted weapon I thought was good idea was a mini crossbow with needle dart. Keep you distance, tuck it away, poison if needed, and it shoots a dart/ needle so not a lot of blood. But it would still work if Not attached to the arm.
@@1stCallipostle I don't know about Valhalla or other Assassins Creed games newer than Odyssey, but...in the pre-Origins Assassins Creed there's literally zero weapons better than the hidden blade. Period. None of them can be used for an instant-kill-chain as easily as a hidden blade, though admittedly there are enemies in some games that are immune to that. If you use a hidden blade for regular attacks then you're using them wrong. In Origins and Odyssey, if I remember correctly, the hidden blade was still a superb weapon even in regular fight, though due to the more RPG mechanics it would lose its superiority if you cannot use it for, you know...assassination.
I'd definitely like to see optimized versions of these weapons somewhere down the line. I personally think a system involving tension and the extention of the arm would be a (difficult but) more plausible version to create a stable and truly subtle weapon for assassination purposes
While I definitely agree that a knife is better for a fight, I also think that you glossed over the main function of the hidden blade. It's designed for assassination not direct combat. (Yes I do know that assassins use them in direct combat in the games but you can use an ice pick in combat as well. It's not designed for it but it can be used in that way.) The function of the hidden blade is to kill in a subtle way. Such as grasping someone's shoulder then firing it into their carotid artery. The design of the hidden blade allows you to reach into someone's personal space with limited resistance, while ensuring they don't rise their guard. However I did enjoy watching the video! Keep up the great work!
I agree with your points but interms of having a locking mechanism being analogous to a fixed blade i think the point of having it retract is to act as a sheath where as the ficed one is always exposed
Great first video on the new channel. Looking forward to the next project. That last part.... 🤣 Musical greetings from Belgium, Gunther (singer and lyrics writer of Gabriel Scar)
In the ‘Star Trek’ shows, the Klingons used a ‘Bar’leth’, a two hand held big crescent weapon, which was actually too dangerous to use in real life, because the design insured that you kept cutting yourself whenever you used it!
I’m glad to have found this channel, just one question though. Will you continue to do these types of videos with shad still or will all of those types of videos move to this channel?
i remember some kid, like 10 years ago, that made a spingloaded hidden blade with a dual action mechanism with a string attached to a finger, using drawer slider hardware and other stuff... it looked pretty neat and dangerous... i wonder if the video is still on youtube
Glad you enjoyed , it was the first episode alot I’ve already tried to make even better for the upcoming ones hopefully it just keeps getting better 👍🏼
Nice work I would add : with a knife, you can add more lever and energy, because you use your hand. While with this, you only use your forearm. It's not, by design, the most efficient way to use a weapon. But, hey, it's cool.
It's funny that you said the Hidden Blade would do well if it was attached to a gauntlet considering that's precisely what Shad gave Daylen in Shadow of the Conqueror - a gauntlet with a Hidden Blade inside, so that Hidden Blade doesn't dislodge or get broken if it takes a hit, since it's inside the gauntlet. I'd love to see you test a replica of that gauntlet, and how you feel it improves the combat capabilities of the Hidden Blade considering it won't slide off your forearm, will be protected, and will likely have a heavier trigger considering those were things you mentioned.
What are your thoughts on spring loaded knives like out the front or side opening automatic pocket knives? Not allowed in Australia but the ones I own like the microtech ultratech are quite safe and would be hard pressed to go off accidentally
Imo, folding switchblades are kinda dumb, you can get it open just as fast manually, but otf switchblades are great, you can open and use it without adjusting your grip, there's zero risk of cutting yourself closing them, and they're less likely to open by themselves than some folders
I feel like a push dagger or some sort of fist held spike would do the exact same thing as a hidden blade, while also being just as concealable. Hell, making an apparatus that just springed a dagger into your hand like Connor’s from AC3 is more useful.
Honestly they wrist blade would be effective as an emergency fall back option. For example if someone disarmed you and you might not have time to reach down for a sheave. Or if they were preforming a take down that would make using a longer weapon less maneuverable. It's use as a primary weapon is limited but an little unexpected plan c can be very deadly. Especially if you were a grappler by trade
Seems to me it would work a lot better without the spring, just a simple latch and catch so you manually slide it foward and lock it in position would be almost as fast as a spring load without the con's and keep the concealed specialist purpose of the weapon
I think using the thickness of the prop is a bad way of making a real version. When translating things from one material to another, the proportions may change. Hard rubber or foam is not as strong as iron or steal so ofcorse the prop will have a thick blade. You know the chalamasil replica Imperius is thicker than the sword is in the book. So in the future keep that in mind.
I noticed you used quite a few different camera angles/scenes and recalled that in the "Lets TALK about 2023" video you said this often was more effort than it was worth due to editing and setup. Have you found a way to make this easier? was it more due to having some spare time? did you just believe it was worth it? or am i imagining things. Great video btw.
Nope still just as much work For multiple cameras etc Its just I can justify putting that type of effort into a video like this instead of a meme review or something like that haha.
considering it's basically thrusting only, how about using a square stiletto like blade? it would definitely safen it for the user, probably make it more durable/lightweigth and maybe improve stabbing capabilities too.
...... For Assasins in specifically, a think a sewing awl, or a large nail of chisel, you aren't a killer, your sewer or a statute carver. Hard to hurt did a video praising as reason for having a screwdriver as a self defense weapon for that reason.
I'm here from the vid about this on Shads channel. Nice take btw... This type of weapon has always been a joke. A long needle would likely be far more effective.
In Assassin's Creed Brotherhood multiplayer, there is one character that does have a type of hidden blade on the top of her wrist instead of the bottom, and it folds instead of extending...
Don't know what the shipping would be. But you and even the guys at Shadiversity should look into either getting or seeking sponsorship from ballistics dummy labs. They have some awesome human analogs. Again i do not know the costs involved. Might be cheaper infact to move to America lol. Great video as always man. Keep up the amazing work and can't wait till you get to the souls games or bloodborn.
The problem with ballistic gel dummies is that they're far from a perfect human analog and work best against bullets. Against blades, they are not particularly resistive and is really to cut and stab through. The whole point of ballistic gel is to provide a consist medium for testing different calibers of firearm rounds and one inch of penetration by a bullet in ballistic gel does not necessarily equate to 1 inch in human flesh. It also allows the tester to see what kind of wound channel/cavity the bullet leave.
@@Riceball01 yeah they don't just do gel dummies. It has bone and organ analog in it as well. And the gel is setup to be as close as you can get. Thus they make it at a certain density. Besides a real pig carcass it is as close as you can get. That is why they make them. And not just for bullets, i have used them before for guns, but also tested what a ballbat would do. And it lets you see where the bones would break and where the impression would harm muscle and organs. There is a reason i was specific in the dummy i said to check out.

Keep it up man! I love to see the behind the scenes connection to the larger channel
I loved the video! Awesome to see a new series:) Thought a fun idea could be to have a visual slider on screen for the rating system at the end, that you could place each weapon or tool on, and then you could easily compare to previous videos in the future.
By order of the Holy Ordos of the Inquisition, you have to test chainswords someday
A great first video for your new channel! Best of luck to you in this endeavor!
Awesome! Just found out you have channel man! Since you've already covered double bladed swords could you talk about the War Glaives from world of Warcraft? Their design is ridiculous so it would be cool too see you cover them
Saw the episode on Shad, came to subscribe! Best of luck with the cahnnel! looking forward to each new episode!
I thought it was excellent how you just flowed right into it and that clip at the end was priceless!
Glad to see you doing this content!!! I was really into the mixing of katana/longsword stuff you're doing. Great work brother 👍 keep it up
You looked like a maniac when stabbing that water bottle. I don’t mean that in a negative way. 😅
Good video format, love the mix of game geekiness, realistic perspective, actually making things!
Hello mate. Glad to see you have another channel. Good luck with it. Very cool idea
Didn't realise this channel existed but was recommended to me so that's encouraging in terms of algorithm for the channel :). Nice job with the vid, really enjoyed it.
Great firts video Tyranth!I wish you well in your new channel.
Stumbled upon this treasure trove of a channel. Coming from Shadiversity to show love for this channel as well!
I love stuff like this . Good luck ! Been a fan of shad for years...but you have been my favorite for some time.
great video!
Amazing work man, good to see you guys branching out 👌
Oh snap, Whattup Tyranth. Good to see you making more content!
Great vid. You can tell a lot of passion and effort went into it.
4:00 just wanted to say that Eivor did solve that issue by putting it on the top their forearm, however it’s less concealable that way.
Groovy. Striking out on your own. Content like this is rite up my alley
yeah even the people who made hidden blade props dont know how to make it properly. so easily fixable that its funny.
also as a parkourist.. it works much better Eivor style(on top of the wrist) than under the wrist.
ALSO in game they are gravity.. not spring loaded.(they made these toys cheaply lol) Gravity with two safety systems i should say. they trigger not only from gravity but from specific forearm muscle tensing (some weird alien tech bs lore wise)
I always thought this would be amazing
Till I remembered that people bleed. Meaning if you stab someone, a bloody blade is going back in the chamber and it'll ruin the mechanism.
Also blood on your hands and sleeve
Thats a Very good point That I wish I mentioned haha
It might not immediately ruin the mechanism, but it's probably not great to have it gunked up.
And cleaning it out would be a pain
Well done Tyranth! Good luck!
Still be a terrible cutter/slasher though
Only one thing you got wrong... Al-uh-min-yum
Not A-looOOOoooOOOOoOOOO-min-um
Best of luck with the new channel!
nice channel well done looking forward to more in the future
How about Corvo's folding sword from Dishonored? That would make such a cool project!
That's already been done and tested by another youtuber.
@@Immopimmoso had the hidden blade. arguably done to death
Most of them have a normal knife too...
And it's usually better in gameplay.
.....This reminds me of a gun that was issued during WWII which attached to a glove and went off when you punched someone.
Opening gag got my monke brian good
Looking forward to more builds and videos!
Keep up the great work!
that's why they are so thick. to block swords.
but even in the games they show them break from that sometimes
The hidden blade is designed in video games. Because they're video games. I also think you glossed over the fact that video games are fiction.
The last second rabbit punches made this video for me😂
That first 5 seconds had me laughing as hard as watching Elf 😂
I agree with your points but interms of having a locking mechanism being analogous to a fixed blade i think the point of having it retract is to act as a sheath where as the ficed one is always exposed
Great first video on the new channel. Looking forward to the next project. That last part.... 🤣 Musical greetings from Belgium, Gunther (singer and lyrics writer of Gabriel Scar)
I like this idea for the new RUclips channel. Keen to see more videos like this one! That ending was great.
Great video Tyranth
HA! That ending was great😂. You got my like and subscribe!
Neat idea and opener for the new channel!
If I did one I would want to it be something over the top and ridiculous
I am glad to have this video popped up in my timeline since I like Tyranth and had no idea he had a channel on his own
i remember some kid, like 10 years ago, that made a spingloaded hidden blade with a dual action mechanism with a string attached to a finger, using drawer slider hardware and other stuff... it looked pretty neat and dangerous... i wonder if the video is still on youtube
What a great video to start the channel with!
Glad you enjoyed , it was the first episode alot I’ve already tried to make even better for the upcoming ones hopefully it just keeps getting better 👍🏼
Can't wait for what's to come. 👊@@ScreenTested
Nice work
I would add : with a knife, you can add more lever and energy, because you use your hand. While with this, you only use your forearm.
It's not, by design, the most efficient way to use a weapon.
But, hey, it's cool.
The main problem is the replica toys are just that, toys. The mechanics are not the same. It’s like comparing a glock to a nerf gun.
That part at the end , hilarious.😂
Oh, and it's usually safer to have a double edge otf than a double edged folder because both edges are covered when the otf is closed
I've been waiting for this video! I've wanted a "real" assassin's creed blade since highschool. Awesome job Tyranth! (Editing is top notch btw 😉)
Glad you enjoyed it man ,I saw you also leveled up your game with a new cam , I like it 👍🏼
I feel like a push dagger or some sort of fist held spike would do the exact same thing as a hidden blade, while also being just as concealable. Hell, making an apparatus that just springed a dagger into your hand like Connor’s from AC3 is more useful.
I am one minute in and the idea behind this has already made me a sub.
Ah so THIS is where Tyranth has been.
Good First Episode! Thank you
Honestly they wrist blade would be effective as an emergency fall back option. For example if someone disarmed you and you might not have time to reach down for a sheave. Or if they were preforming a take down that would make using a longer weapon less maneuverable. It's use as a primary weapon is limited but an little unexpected plan c can be very deadly. Especially if you were a grappler by trade
Looking forward to the builds.
Nice to see you doing your own stuff
You know what would be a cooler type weapon to try out along with his armor? Fulgore and his quad blades from Killer Instinct.
Awesome. I can't wait to see more
Seems to me it would work a lot better without the spring, just a simple latch and catch so you manually slide it foward and lock it in position would be almost as fast as a spring load without the con's and keep the concealed specialist purpose of the weapon
Love this channel Ty 👍🏻🇦🇺 keep up the awesome job Brother ;)
I think using the thickness of the prop is a bad way of making a real version. When translating things from one material to another, the proportions may change. Hard rubber or foam is not as strong as iron or steal so ofcorse the prop will have a thick blade. You know the chalamasil replica Imperius is thicker than the sword is in the book. So in the future keep that in mind.
About knife... in Assassins creed 3, hidden blade are actually small knife which Connor can hold in his offhand in fight and use as knife
It's a pair of blades I think in that game.
One was attached, one wasn't?
Either way, the Dirk was flat better so I didn't use them much
I noticed you used quite a few different camera angles/scenes and recalled that in the "Lets TALK about 2023" video you said this often was more effort than it was worth due to editing and setup. Have you found a way to make this easier? was it more due to having some spare time? did you just believe it was worth it? or am i imagining things.
Great video btw.
Nope still just as much work For multiple cameras etc Its just I can justify putting that type of effort into a video like this instead of a meme review or something like that haha.
you should experiment with fixed elbow blades too.
thanks for the video!
considering it's basically thrusting only, how about using a square stiletto like blade?
it would definitely safen it for the user, probably make it more durable/lightweigth and maybe improve stabbing capabilities too.
Randomly found this on my feed, subscribed before watching
i cant wait to start my forge and make a way better design for hidden blades. im going to make a street legal one.. somehow lol
Great first video.
Good video only the Audio is quite bad - if you enhance the quality (noise gates...) i would like it
When entering a party with an important official, knifes and daggers would be confiscated, but bracers wouldn't, thus hidden blade is superior.
In Assassin's Creed Brotherhood multiplayer, there is one character that does have a type of hidden blade on the top of her wrist instead of the bottom, and it folds instead of extending...
Way to start, Tyranth. In the words of the late great Donald O'Connell... Make 'em laugh. 😂
The book describes two different kinds of hidden blades, one with a spring lock mechanism and one with a slide block mechanism.
Oi. D' yeou go' a loicense f' dat kitch'n knoife?
Haha awesome video and test. I always thought having it under your arm would be awkward but good concealability.
Got a little over excited and was almost done making a comment asking how long this channel has existed, then he said it is brand new x.x
A pleasure to watch the future father of the Titan sword at work.
