I still think they should have deployed with at least 1 of those spicy sticks when they had them. They weren't just weapons of terror, they were weapons of cool! 😎
A very fun episode. Now *obviously* if you didn't care about safety this would have been electric power, because that was kind of the main thing about the Ghiza's Wheel was that it 'ground into' enemies. I think with that the effectiveness (and I imagine using an in hub motor like you'd use for an electric bike) would reduce the complexity and failure rate of the device. Still, with what you could feasibly do, it was interesting seeing such a 'device' tested.
Kinda wish ghiza's wheel in elden ring was crank operated now lol would be so funny seeing my tarnished cranking the crap out of it any time you charge the heavy attack
Considering what you've shown and said, and in context of other weapons helping to set the standards, I would rate Usability: 1 Design: 3 Comfort: 3 Effectiveness: 4
Sure, he could. But those blades were coming loose from a hand crank. Best case scenario with a chainsaw they just completely dangle becoming near useless. Worst case scenario they snap off and fly back at the user. And be it hand crank or chainsaw, machines don't like getting suddenly stopped. Which is exactly what would happen in combat.
This is a comment, indicating interest and engagement. Blah blee bloo bloo blop, word salad and algorithms. Love the content as always, man. Thank you.
OMG!!! I told you Tyranth about making this Saw Wheel Axe Thing in last episode. My source of inspiration was from other game... But still! Thank you for making this video, even if you not read my comment from last episode.
I have a feeling it would work even better if all the blades were identical and smaller, basically turn into a round saw on a stick. And I guess if an actual round saw was attached properly, you could use something like that quite safely.
I don't know what's scariest, if the fact that one could use one of those hub motors to make one of these powered with around one horsepower at least, or that you don't really need to go through all the hustle of building a complicated contraption, because you could just get a grass trimmer with a metal blade... Wait; hmm... There's a model that comes with a six bladed head, guarantee of them being razor sharp... OH MY FREAKING GOD! They also come with straight up buzz saws! When did gardening got so scary! 😅
Taking into account that this weapon originates from Bloodborne, i think it makes more sense in the context of the game. Considering that most of the time you have to fight monsters who don’t use weapons, the player probably doesn’t need as much agility as when fighting against humans. So the main goal is to inflict as much devastating damage as possible in the shortest amount of time 🤔
If that was heavy already, adding motor to it would make it pretty much unusable. Blades were kinda loose'ish. Making them more rigidly attached would probably help with the cutting, but they would probably snap easier. Especially with the motor with higher rpm. Honestly i think you rated it too high. I'd go with something like 4-3-2-3. Maybe even lower. Yes it can kinda cut while spinning, but it aint spinning after 1-2 hits. Powering it by hand, while safer and i understand why you did this, it just require a motor for constant spinning. But it'll make everything even more unwieldy and dangerous, and prone to snaping and braking. My personal verdict: Disassemble it now! Are you crazy? Is this thing even legal to build or have at all? I feel if you show this to Shad he'd dissasemble both it and you. My god i don't want to be anywhere near it. XD
Nice video. I think you should keep it together. Hear me out. I know it's expensive, but you're going to have the coolest damn pizza cutter on the block. 😂 On a less ridiculous note, you could perhaps counteract the gyro effect by having another, much smaller but equally heavy flywheel type situation for the pommel. I know, it would have to be enclosed somehow so you don't get clothes, appendages or scenery stuck in it, make another point of failure, making it that much more complex and costly and it would not be true to the in game representations (unless I'm missing something). On the other hand, it could potentially make it a much more feasible implement of dooooooom. Not saying it would be anywhere near a sword in it's simplicity, elegance or ease of use. A pizza cutter of doom is still a pizza cutter of doom, though. Edit: Spelling and grammar derps.
Thank you for the series! It gives a wonderful insight into the practicality of things which I use to bring unnecessary realism to my TTRPGs and interesting tidbits that I can spring up in a conversation against an unsespecting listener. Please do keep up this wonderful work!
If you did have an electric motor with a very secure chain to more closely simulate the magic, how do you think the T.I.T.S. would change? (Was going to say ratings, but then realized I couldn’t pass up that opportunity.)
Overcomplicating with the chain a brushless motor directly attached to wheel would work and you would only need wires running down the shaft with a electric trimmer trigger
If you worried about cussing, and losing monetization, don't use the bleep sound! Use different sounds because last I checked, the algorithm will not pick up on non-bleep sounds. *Shink* *clang*
Thank me? Nah, thank you! You're the wizard swinging Mjolnir at your own head, and making these ludicrous things!! 😁 Just the thought of this fine killer sunflower with a motor is enough to give one hypertension - the manual touch was very sensible. Thank you for season 3, I can't wait for season 4! 🌻
The more videos you put out, the more I'm liking this channel, I LOVE the concept of what you do, and in general I think you're a talented craftsman. Keep up the great work!!
Imagine Tyranth having funding..... Just imagine integrating a saw into Ghizas wheel as a driving mechanism for the chain, add some stuff to stabelize the whole thing, maybe cover up the chain so it isn't a weak point and voila: You don't have to worry about it being unweildy without having to power it by hand and instead being able to swing it properly with both hands
Just to point something out, this is not in any possible way the Whirlygig Saw, because that weapon is (1) a hammer first and foremost, and (2) powered by something other than magic, perhaps merely an incredibly wound spring mechanism that allows it to continue function. Most Bloodborne weapons are purely mechanical, albeit not realistic, but the WGS is 100% a big blunt disc hammer that has twin sawblades on either side of the disc, like a deadly Oreo cookie. But this Ghiza Wheel you've made is really cool!
Like other people suggested some possible upgrades to make this more "functional": - Use a brushcutter/weed eater/weed wacker for the drive chain/axle. This would be relatively light weight and less issues compared to the un-tensioned chain. - For powering it a modified low speed hand drill with grip safety toggle/trigger. - I'd be concerned with the sudden jolt if the blades did catch and the power source was trying to torque through it making it wrench from your control. So there would need to be a freewheel or something to keep this from happening. You could still use the frame and general setup you have for structure with these suggestions.
3 seasons is crazy. Great work lately dude!! The production quality and lighting at 3:00 is not unnoticed. Also, Bloodborne is currently on its way to being fully emulated on PC, its cool to see the progress its made in only a few months.
Keep up the amazing work man, love the showing the building and start to testing here with the follow ups with Shad...Such a great collab and always love seeing the set when you make something crazy. Like the Bloodborne "sword" with you 2 coming up to the same results from different starting points. It shows that if a weapon is good you can tell even if you were not the one who made it or knows how it is supposed to be used. Kind of a seen VS blind take. Hail from the FNT Fellowship!
Making it Bloodborne-style with buzzsaw blades instead of knives could make it safer, at least in the sense it wouldn't be as stabby and prone to flinging broken bits of blade in places in case of failure. A tighter chain or a complete gear system would obviously make it more reliable, and at that point I'd probably add a motor as well.
Nice idea, a chain tensioner would be a very good idea, stop it falling off all the time, you have an engineering background yet the word sprocket seemed unfamiliar to you, odd; I come from an engineering background too but I'm also a motorcycle mechanic (studied motorcycle engineering along with a Bsc(hons) in product design and of course my Harley Davidson certified mechanics courses) so maybe I'm a bit more sprocket au fait lol! I still think maybe a lower HP or wattage motor like a Dremel would be safe enough with all your gear, although I do share your dislike and distrust of electric grinders but mostly for the godawful noise they make! I have a newish air grinder I hope to try out soon!
essentially just a brushcutter is an interesting point. Other ways to take this idea is to make it longer, and counterweight it a bit. Couch it like a lance. this way you could hold it with one arm, while turning the crank.(if not just attaching gas/electric motor, and backpack fuel/battery..) or, like Brush cutters. counter weight is in the back(motor). and they are carried at the hip, with a STRAP holding the weight/pivot point over the shoulders, freeing both hands to aim.
That..was actually more effective than I thought it would be. You're a brave man testing that terrifying weapon. I'd be way too concerned about blades coming loose and flying back at me 😬 Keep up the brilliant work but stay safe!
I thought "it's hand powered, it can't be THAT dangerous, right?, if you used a drill or something maybe" oh no, i was mistaken, once i saw that thing spin oh boy also you probably need a chain tensioner if you want to revisit the build and improve it, it will prevent the chain going loose 🤔
Some kind of better construction combined with a powerful electric motor would make that thing absolutely insane. Though I'm wondering how much a bladed wheel spinning at high speeds might pull against attempts to swing the thing around...would it be kinda like a gyroscope, or something?
This looks absolutely horrifying. Though regarding the games design, if the wheel spins on magic then the hooked blades might get stuck but the magic would (probably) push through until either the weapon or the target breaks. And as we know, game weapons resist everything.
Talking some much about how dangerous it is and saftey, but the most danger came from constantly fixing the chain. which means your face was so damn close to the blades all that time...
You remind me of the Red Green show's series of wacky build skits, "if women can't find ya handsome, they should at least find ya handy". Of course, you've got both covered though, lol
Did you consider using a small electric motor of some kind? With that you could put the activator somewhere on the grip/handle that is most convenient, or most comfortable while still allowing you to wield it like a 2 handed staff/sword/spear/spinny thingy.. Lol not a complaint or criticism, legit just curious your thoughts on it. I'm sure it wouldn't be the safest way to go about testing.... I also think from what you built and the results of your tests..... it's quite clear with an electric motor to power the wheel..... it's probably gonna be devastating lol..... So I have been assuming you didn't go with the electric motor simply because it wasn't really required to test the concept and it's also way less safe lol. Both of which are legitimate reasons to go manual over electric for a first run at least.
Great videos, love them bud. May be not your thing but have you tested the gun sword. It's a flintlock built into a knife or small sword. It's a strange weapon I found a couple months ago
For your "T.i.t.s." score, you seem to be giving it a lot of points since it is the season finale, rather than actual "I think this is actually effective or comfortable, or useable in combat. No one would let you crank the blades to spin in a fight, and when the blades stop, a lot of the effectiveness is removed that a spiked/bladed club itself wouldn't do better. I appreciate your videos, and I thank you for what you do, just my thoughts. :)
I thought maybe a weed trimmer with a deadman switch would be more effective base for the design as the motor would be a counterbalance and using an axle to spin. From your narration I think you considered this. Why did you go with crutch instead?
I would have 1000% powered it with an electric motor and wired in a safety switch that stops the wheel if i let go of it. It would also be able to keep is torque and velocity up during the attack instead of relying entirely on momentum. That would have made it much safer and more effective.
I know you are in tight budget but is there any chance that you would consider doing Alita battle angel butterfly knife - blade - sword, i would really like to see an actual factional replica!, keep up the good work!🎉
What about a gasoline powered weed Wacker engine all the way down at the bottom end? Just a thought experiment. Second thought for this. Shoulder strap. That way you don't have to hold it with your arms. It's cool to watch and about as practical as a mall ninja weapon. Great content as always!
