      @callmev3531 3 месяца назад +4

      @@Leo.23232, Yeah, the whole "weightless" thing was something I'd found questionable and a bit superfluous as a detail, since there are various examples of lightsaber blades interacting with their environment like solid objects with weight, making them more akin to Green Lantern energy constructs than a regular beam of light.
      Still, the fencing style of the choreography emphasized dexterity gives it more in common with the Original Trilogy Era of lightsaber choreography, with the elements of speed and agility being reminiscent of the Prequel Era, the balance between those two styles is much appreciated, since both have merit.

    • @Leo.23232
      @Leo.23232 3 месяца назад +2

      @@callmev3531 Exactly, Ive had this argument so many times, where people say they must be weightless because it says so in some lore thing outside the movies which probably only originates from the fact it has 'light' in the name and must be weightless or they assume its made of plasma and weighs nearly nothing.
      Fact is, it never explains how it works in the original films, but it does show them moving and being used like a sword and being able to parry and being swung with power utilising momemtum/inertia. All of which is only possible if the blade has a sufficient amount of weight or at least have some sci fi bs that mimicks it having weight.
      So anyone claiming otherwise when writing this lore is basically making a contradiction, and it makes the lore worse if you take it as true.

      Lightsaber fights in general look goofy when examined closely. The Original Trilogy was a lot of wild swinging. The prequels was like dancing with a whole lot of openings and bad guard positioning. The sequels was like swinging sledge hammers or clubs at eachother,. The Ahsoka series was very low energy swinging. Now the acolyte is doing a weird mix of Chinese martial arts and Japanese samurai movie style stuff. The prequels looks the coolest I suppose but still kinda goofy.

    • @scorpionlord9175
      @scorpionlord9175 3 месяца назад +8

      @@dreadrath yeah, the prequels had issues.
      but as they pointed out, their misses were mere inch. it wasnt "im gonna swing a mile to your left." misses like the other stuff. plus there were genuinely excellent stuff, such as the Battle of Destiny and Obiwan vs Anakin. that was peak star wars fighting.
      plus, lets be honest. if lightsabers were a thing, it would be dancing. sword fighting in HEMA and such is very much dance like. prequels were as close to realistic as anything else, with all its flaws.

      @@scorpionlord9175 If it was a thing, we have little idea how it would actually work since we have no idea how they would actually interact with each other, or even how it works all on its own, or how the hell they don't ignite and vaporize everything in their vicinity. Nor do we have any idea how people would fight with precognitive and superhuman abilities. Are they weightless, or is it like holding a gyroscope? We don't know.
      It is likely there would be a lot more saber resistant materials all over the place, fencing would be the most likely fighting style of choice and a lot more use of force powers. I.E. nothing we saw in this short video.
      Obiwan vs Anakin was janky as fuck and has been meme'd about endlessly as a result.
      Most of your complaints are safety issues, these actors aren't all skilled sword masters, or even skilled actor combatants. It sounds like you're bitching about a Shakespearian play that isn't actually killing people for the sake of realism.

    A lot of scenes understandably go for flashy and this is less so. The more I watched the more it appeared it was lower key on purpose. It wasn't fancy footwork
    or acrobats but two opponents acting like they in fact had lethal weapons. This is perfectly captured at 2:16 as one is stalking the other and the guy on the
    left does a little blade flick. It's not a huge or flashy move but captures the realism of blade combat. A tiny flick to make your opponent jerk or jump in defense
    and it's game over. True combat is fast, violent and most often not flashy but effective. You're not trying to impress your opponent or crowd you're trying to
    drop them by any means possible. I'd say these guys get a huge step above most Starwars directors for the fact it appears they spent time studying how
    a true sword fight would carry out. Well done.

      I disagree. I give the choreography a solid 8. It was realistic, I felt they were actually trying to kill each other. Each blow was aimed at the opponent, not their blade. No telegraphs that Stevie Wonder could see. It was very well done. I'll give you that it wasn't fancy and very flashy. That's the thing, though. Real combat isn't flashy. It's about doing what you can to stay alive. So spins, flashy flourishes, and entirely useless stunts will end with you dead.

However, Tyreth stated he was trying to create a scene akin to the Old Republic style with its more entertaining and exaggerated choreography. It's the difference between stage combat and normal sparring. One is meant to help you hone technical skill, sparring, and one is meant to be entertaining, tell a story, and demonstrate combat skills safely. You are absolutely right that Tyreth showed great technical skill in this video, but that is not the same thing as good fight choreography, its only one part of it. Check out this video.

    The dark council definitely regretted signing the treaty with Harvy Weinsteins assistant. They probably were looking for a little more of a proper villain.

    great! i love the fact that this takes place in the "old galaxy" with the treaty of coruscant and all. but dont give disney ideas. its never too late for them to screw up this era of SW lore aswell 😂
    but i guess they wont actually touch it because its no longer canon - according to them. not me 😁

    This really showed how much better a controlled skillful looking fight feels than the relentless overextending attacks in the recent films and shows. And the pauses in attacks build tension so well. This was really fun to watch!

    Missed opportunity for a Starwars Theory crossover. Maybe next time? I heard hes a fan of Shadiversity. Also has his own lightsaber company. Awesome video tho. Nice to see flashy yet competent fighting and the cinematography was on point. Made we want to play the old republic games again.

    Great job, Darth Tyranth.
    I think that lightsabers duels should look as if someone was fighting with an extremely sharp short longsword or spadroon. No spins, excessive swirling, swiging bats, or kicking while the opponent is open and within reach of the swords. And of course, aiming for the opponent.

    Of course even this is too high bar for disney, whom can't even get the colours of the sabers correct.
