Zombie GO Boom pencil videos: 2014 and 2015. Another mighty pen from media that im surprised isn't mentioned much or at all in the comments or wasn't mentioned in video: Dark Knight when Joker does the magic trick. That is from 2008. Am pretty sure there are older examples (maybe some old kungfu movie or some violent comic story) but Joker should have at least some mentions when it comes to pens.

In the "Wick movies," two of the pencils were being supported by solid surfaces (desk and wall). One was driven into the bottom of the jaw then the larynx. One was through the eardrum into the brain. One more was driven through the back of the neck, probably severing at least part of the spinal cord. I think...it's been a while since I watched the movie. In the movie PRESIDIO, Sean Connery used his LEFT THUMB on a badass biker dude. So, yeah, ya done good, again, Tyranth...

Most pencils sold in North America are made of a soft wood, mostly incense cedar. It’s resistant to bugs and rot and doesn’t splinter when sharpened. Some cheaper pencils are made from pine.
Such woods, like all woods, are stronger along the grain than across it so grip is very important as you discovered. The target matters too also as you found out.
The most believable John Wick strike was to the back of the neck where it meets the head, presumably between the vertebra to hit the spinal cord to cause paralysis or death. Either outcome would be acceptable in his situation.
You didn’t mention Heath Ledger’s Joker killing a gangster with a pencil through the eye socket into the brain. That’s also believable.
All in all a pencil wouldn’t be my first choice but military close combat instructors teach that in the right hands anything is a lethal weapon.

I remember when I was six or seven, after just sharpening my pencil, I was playing with it, and bit a tiny bit of pressure on the sharpened tip with my thumb. Next thing I knew, I was screaming in pain because I had impaled myself on my pencil. It did not go in far, but, the tip did break off inside my thumb, and yes, it had drawn blood.
Pencils, deadly, maybe in extreme situations, but, they can still cause damage.

Hopefully you have access to something better than that if you get in a bad situation, but it could have a very small chance to save your life. - stake is a wooden dagger
    - wood implies stick
    - stick is best weapon
    post-vid:
    - it didn't pen(cil)trate
    - next up, try it with different types of pens, I can imagine a fountain pen could do some damage considering the metallic arrow-like tip
    - seems like pencils only work when "injected" perfectly perpendicular, otherwise they bend/snap

If that was a person at the end, your pencil MIGHT have been able to do more damage. With the mass and presumably balance of a real person, it wouldn't just fall over and deplete all the force of the strike. The best way to account for that (given cost, effectiveness, etc.) is to simply have someone hold the dummy still, or put it against a wall or something so all your force actually goes into it. That said, yeah, I don't think standard pencils are getting through unless you hit a really weak point. And actually exposed target. Eye, ear canal, or throat maybe. I'm also not convinced it's necessarily lethal, depending on where you hit. I mean, the easiest place on the throat to penetrate is probably where they do tracheotomies... so like... probably not a lethal spot. Pretty sure assassins/hitmen could get something purpose-built for that, instead.

If you draw profanity of your opponent, you can publicise that profanity. They cannot stop you.

RUclipsr Zombie go boom (or zgb) did a test with a pencil and the test was brutal. I think saying a pencil isn't lethal is wrong. They used a slightly harder skull analog then a human skull and it went right through.

As a suggestion, maybe build a metal whip from Prince of Persia The Two Thrones game and see how deadly it is? Again, just as a suggestion.

i mean, go watch the movies and where he hits. he doesnt hit them on the chest or anything. he hits the hands, then the ears, throat, eye, lip, ect. so places where it actually would do legitimate damage.
thats why i loved that scene. it showed us the "he killed them with a pencil, A FUCKING PENCIL. WHO DOES THAT?!>!" from the first one and its totally and 100% realistic for where he shoved the pencils.

I’ve been stabbed by a pencil in school and I have a graphite mark under the skin like a pencil tattoo

As anyone who has any experience with a bladed weapon understands, any tool can be used to harm someone. Examples: farming implements are the origin of most "ninja" weapons. Or the fact a pearing knife can harm someone if used improperly.
So a pencil or pen being lethal, I'm not suprised.

If the pencil is mightier than the sword then is a PENguin mightier than a SWORDfish.
