The reason why crowds and bystanders don't take notice to John Wick killing people is because the directors wanted crowds to act like NPC's in a videogame throughout the franchise. They found it especially funny in the silence pistol metro scene from I think it was the 2nd film, where John Wick is very obviously shooting out in the open and only a few people take notice. John Wick is very much like a videogame in that there are no police around during the action, and there are no conscious bystanders.
I just really enjoy the allegory of video game mechanics, as an action movie. John being able to take ridiculous amounts of damage, "npcs" not reacting to firefights, the crazy kills, John using a lot of the same moves. It all feels like video games levels for each fight and minimal "cutscene" story scenes
The Dragons Breathe scene was easily one of the greatest action scenes I've ever seen in my life it was like I was playing Hotline Miami all over again and I love how they respect classic cinema theres a reference to Lawrence of Arabia in the first minute of the film god what a stunning series of films also Donny Yen what a boss.
Something I wanna say is: Rest in Peace, Lance Reddick, the wonderful actor who played Charon in this series, as well as Commander Zavala in the Destiny games. He will be dearly missed, ans I’m glad he could make another appearance in John Wick before he passed.
Shimazu was actually my favorite character in the movie. He was only in the beginning. But his absolute loyalty to his friend, badassness, and refusal to stand down made me love him. (Spoiler) I wish he survived
I wish their were more necessity for his death. At the end Caine wasn't even asking him to give up John; he could have walked away with his honor then.
(Spoilers) In hindsight, it gives you at the end an exemple with Cane/Kane and his daughter of what Johnathan would have done to earn Shimazu's loyalty. It all came back full circle.
For all of Donnie Yen's martial arts talent, they gave him a gun and made him blind, and he was about as deadly and graceful as he's ever been. Scott Adkins wore a grill and a fat suit, put on a ridiculous accent and character and still fought as if he were in only a gi. The talent they brought in over these films really elevated every scene they were in. Couldn't ask for a better ending.
Absolutely, adkins stole the show in my opinion. Most people would be shocked to see him doing all those stunts because they don’t know he was in a fat suit 😂
Donnie’s movement was so enjoyable to watch. I didn’t know who Scott Adkins was before this movie. I could tell it was a guy in a fat suit at the card table, then once he started fighting I was like damn, I need to find out who this guy is.
lets give those ninja assassins at the Osaka Continental more recognition, damn i still remember Koji saying to his crew "Our Guests has arrived, let's give them hospitality" then proceeds to open refrigerators with those bow and arrows, Shuriken, Katana, and those 2 sumo wrestler guards damn you cant get more Japanese assassin group more than that, still give me chills
It was ridiculous (in a good way) and cool. This movie plays with absurd stereotypes, it's meant to be crazy and uninhibited, and it does it very well.
I loved the idea of Mr. Nobody. He tracks targets, and keeps his sights on them, but influences the bounty to make it higher. I imagine in the end, he manipulates bounties so much that he gets an even bigger paycheck by the end of his hunts. That’s a really cool concept. I’m sure this isn’t unique, but I still love it.
The idea of him being a helper to John but also willing to turn on John should it now benefit him puts both parties in an interesting dynamic, not too unique but it is an interesting chemistry regardless.
I loved the movie. And what made it so much better is that everyone else in the theater wasn’t scared to be vocal. So when something gruesome happened, like when John jumps out a window and falls down far, we all went “oooh!”. And that scene when he keeps falling down the stairs, we were laughing our asses off. Having a vocal audience makes watching a movie so much better
I like to think the stair scene was the directors poking fun at themselves over Chapter 2, where he and Common kept tumbling down stairs. The chose to quadruple the time he fell in this one and it was amazing.
There was definitely some comedic moments in the movie, like that stairs scene, or when Winston has a painfully long walk down the Marquis’s art gallery. The dog urinating on Chidi’s gave was unexpected but welcome.
SPOILERS! in the end, where he had to get upstairs he looked at his watch and it was 5 minutes to 6 am, the time it took him to get upstairs with all the fight was exactly 5 mins in real life, when he got downstairs, it was 6.00 am and the sunrise was at 6.03 and to get upstairs took 3 mins in real life. This was timed perfectly
Mr Nobody was such a cool character. He was literally the underdog in this movie and had a subtle but satisfying story arc that paralleled John's life.
Yeah, him and most of the supporting characters helped to cap off the series pretty well. He's likely going to have his own arc in the Continental show if it ever comes to fruition, which would be satisfying in its own right, since he still never got his money.
The whole point of his character boiled down to that one scene, and it was sort of necessary because there was always a dog theme in the other movies. Even when it was Sofia's dog he still had the line "I get it". The entire theme of his random ass meeting the CEO of Grey Poupon and their following interactions made almost no sense at all. He was asking for way too much for just being another random assassin with a dog. He also should have died easily the moment he pulled that presto vesto move while looking the shooter dead in the eyes.
This was one of the best movies that I’ve ever seen. Absolutely thrilling from start to finish. My heart was about to explode during the roundabout scene. The tension was off the charts, the fights, the artistry of the fights and gunshots while trying to avoid speeding cars, while the amazing ambient music is played perfectly according to the fight. Then they followed that up with 3 more amazing sequences including the dragons breath scene. Absolute perfection of a movie.
This film was not just unbelievably fun, it was unbelievably gorgeous as well. Some of the set pieces and shots genuinely look like they're taking place in a heavenly realm.
Agreed, the lighting and cinematography from John Wick 2 was amazing; especially the use of mirrors and reflections. This film then surpasses JW2, especially the scenes in the Killa’s club and the shot of John in Osaka covered in red lighting.
@@zacharymenchaca2336 Killas club was amazing. Between the synth beat mixed with the choir vocals, to the lighting and slow motion shots, to the waterfalls, it made it actually feel like he was going up against a God. I would like to see Killa in his prime.
My favorite part of this movie I think was the radio announcer at the night before the duel, specifically the transition into the French cover of Paint It, Black. So good, such a jam done in such an amazing way with the radio announcer and everything. Pure art.
Let me just say for everyone a wholehearted Rest in Peace for Lance Reddick. Perhaps best known for his role as Charon, he was a good man. As Charon we got a refreshing character for John Wick to interact with, and someone that reminded us that the film series wasn't all killing and murder. There were fun moments and moments that had us like "Aw yeah." or even moments that just had us laughing. Thank you Lance, for giving us the good times in John Wick, and for your roles in so many othwr franchises. I know I'm going to rewatch Fringe to see Lance in his role as Broyles, and to really enjoy the story he had to offer in his characters.
what I loved about this one in particular is that some of the random nameless guys actually did really well. In the beginning one of them actually blocks multiple bullets and keeps up with john for a bit
Also worth mentioning that Marquis' men actually use the same fighting techniques and wore the same bulletproof suit John used. They were incredibly formiddable even for a rank of henchmen.
Yeah in particular the right hand of the marquis, the one that speaks spanish, was a beast. He's there from start to finish, and is on the same level as John Wick and Caine. He didn't deserve to be pissed on by that dog lol.
The quick graceful blade jabs by Caine was stylish af And the best part is the movie didn’t bring donnie yen in for clout only and utilised him as Caine for the storyline well
Even the original john wick film reminds me of hotline miami with it being about a one man killing machine against the russian mob Also the russians from john wick wear black and red the opposite of the white and blue seen on the hotline miami mob
Fuck I loved that scene in the abandoned house. I got so excited when I saw them loading up Dragon's Breath and the pay off with that over head angle was absolutely perfect with the music. Charlie is right, first one is always special but this one has to be the best. I can think of literally only two things that annoyed me and both are so minor and forgettable it's not worth saying.
I don’t think anyone goes for the plot because it’s a really simple plot Everyone goes for the top tier action sequences, choreography, and stunt work done. Camera work especially the top down view was a work of art
@@iNoodl3s I think the plot is very interesting because of the past of the character but it is overshadowed by all the rest. Still you're right, the plot is deffinitely not the selling point of these.
It does try to not go beyond too over the top with everything particularly the weapons and gears. They don't go into the realm of old school Bond gadgets, the best they have in these movies are probably guns that shoot and reload faster. The bulletproof suits are the peak of this universe's tech so far and I hope it stays that as I felt like that was pushing it a little bit
Love the scene where he saved nobody’s dog, you can see him remembering what happened to his own dog in the first movie. The dragons breath top down view scene is immaculate aswell.
I love the villain of the movie, sure he wasn’t exactly scary physically, but his stature and his attitude really made him stand out in the cast I think
Bill skarsgard did such an amazing job in his role. The suits he kept wearing was crazy lol. Had some funny memeable moments. Everyone in this movie did an amazing job.
One of my favorite moments was when John Wick saved Mr Nobody’s dog and when Caine used a pencil as a weapon, a clear callback to the previous films. And I didn’t expect Scott Adkins to be so hilarious in the movie. Overall, the movie was impeccable. Perfect casting, perfect choreography, perfect ending, the entire movie was just perfect.
I literally just got home from the theater and that movie is unbelievable, the visual effects and the camera work, especially the top down scene, were insane
It’s crazy that the motorcycle scene was the only time he unlocked infinite ammo in the entire series. They’re usually so on point with frequent reloads.
I believe he had a 24 round magazine in the weapon he got! Additionally, there were a few times where he was taking ammo off of bodies quickly. I wasn’t counting though
The dragon's breath scene marked the most impressed I have ever been for cinema by quite a long shot in terms of action. The set, lighting, color grading, choreo, camera movements, were all flawless. When we say there was a "long take action sequence" we think maybe 6 punches per cut, but this one was easily 20x the normal length, which is supposed to be impossible for directors to shoot. It was by far the coolest thing I have ever seen, on any medium
IMO my favorite thing was that every single "goon" was competent. You could feel that, especially for the high table soldiers, there was an entire action franchise worth of training and experience for every single one of them.
Eh... If you're actually paying attention during the fight scenes this one is very debatable. I recall one scene in particular where a guy with a rifle just runs directly into Caines sword and never even fires a single round. Dude has a long range weapon and decides the best option is to get CLOSER
The osaka scene has some of the most beautiful shots and choreography i’ve seen in all of filmmaking. Coupled to a fantastic degree by an awesome soundtrack, it was easily one of my favorite moments in the series.
@@tiberianexcalibur It literally establishes part of John's history as an assassin and serves to connect it to his main friend/rival throughout the movie, but okay. Nope very pointless indeed.
Seen the movie twice might see it a third time. And both times I couldn’t believe how fast that movie was over and how much time had passed. Such a great film.
@@deepintothewoooods True. RIP Daisy but at least the rest lived. I still remember gasps seeing Chapter 2 when John's house was blown up and people thought the dog died again.
The apartment scene with the dragon breath rounds set the bar as the coolest scene in any action film imo. They went full video game mode with the panning camera and I think it's gonna be hard to top that whole scene tbh.
Just got back from the cinema and I agree, that scene is just so unique. Couldn't stop smiling throughout the scene (it's just fun, what else can I say)
My only problem with it other than a couple moments when John had unlimited ammo was how he was immune to fall damage. He fell 50+ feet twice and walked it off. He was also hit by cars a lot and was fine
I am curious to see people like Corridor Crew or someone similar review this scene. From seeing the scene once, the enemies were definitely CGI'd - but I'm always fascinated by how we're able to blend VFX and practical so seamlessly.
This movie was an absolute masterpiece. I’m someone that loved the first 3 and thought that all 3 are near perfect! So for this one to be the fourth and to be cinema perfection is astounding! The characters, the color, the style, the vibe, the action, the story, the stakes, all of it was just fantastic. The score and music is some of the best that I have ever heard in any movie! Keanu is the best that he’s ever been! As for the action sequences, I loved ALL of them! Every single one is amazing and is arguably my favorite in the entire John Wick franchise. However, there can only be one favorite haha. Plenty of people are going to talk about the top down one for a long time. I can absolutely understand why! That is one of the most stunning sequences that I have ever seen. It’s so close to being my favorite, or even tied as my favorite, but there is one, that in my opinion tops it. Again all of them are amazing, and the top down one is unbelievable. However, that Arc De Triomphe roundabout sequence is maybe one of my favorite sequences in cinema history. Oh. My. Goodness!! It was thrilling, tense, mesmerizing! The music was perfect, the action being perfectly synchronized to the music, the fighting and gun fighting while trying to avoid speeding cars. Bad guys being hit by cars. John throwing bad guys at cars. The stakes, John running from everyone, it was a thrill ride that I don’t know I’ve ever experienced before in any movie. Absolutely phenomenal. Which is what makes the rest of the sequences afterwards so amazing, because even though they didn’t top that one in my opinion, they were damn close! The top down and stair sequence were amazing! The ending of course was perfect. How John took down the Marquis was so cool. That shot of John at the end on the stairs was beautiful. IF he really did die, then the last thing he said was, “Helen”. I’m torn on a 5th movie. Because of course I want more John Wick. Considering they are 4 movies in and the 4th is the best one, I don’t think they will give us a bad movie. However if John really is dead, it’s a perfect ending. The final scene is poetic and beautiful. Also one thing that I want to mention that was inferred in the movie but maybe wasn’t explained as much. John winning that duel is not only a victory for him, Caine, and Winston, it’s a victory for the world. I see the high table as a metaphor for a corrupt government. I feel like there is a lot of symbolism in the John Wick movies. There certainly was in this one. So considering that idea, John Wick challenging and defeating the high table is in a way similar to the people’s victory during the French Revolution. Which is why, symbolically, the fact that the events of the ending of the movie are in France make it perfect. Of course it makes the Arc De Triomph scene even more amazing because that’s the memorial of the French Revolution 😃 Sure, the high table isn’t ENTIRELY taken down after the events of John Wick 4, but John will go down in history as the person that challenged the high table and sent a symbolic message by not only challenging them, but beating them at their own game. He planted the first seed of the idea that the high table is corrupt. He also planted the idea that they can be challenged. Other people will pay attention to that and they will rebel and eventually take down the high table. Again, it has similarities to the French Revolution. That’s what I meant by stakes. It’s not just about him or his friends anymore, it’s about the future of the world. Absolutely amazing movie.
The dragons breath scene, Cane using doorbells to locate enemies, and Cane and John going up the stairs together were my favorite parts. Also that “Yeah”, “No” that was scarily spot on.
The casting of this movie was the best part for me, Donnie Yen and Hiroyuki Sanada are some of my most favorite actors ever. I’m glad they were able to shine in this movie, they really are among some of the best representatives for Asian actors imo. I also loved how they put Scott Adkins into the movie too, I just struggled to recognize him because they put him into a fatsuit for his role. I’ll forever remember him for Yuri Boyka but it was great how he was able to fit into the John Wick universe as well.
John Wick 4 absolutely blew me away, I will be going to see it again in theaters and buying it to own afterward. I love how amazing the fight scenes are. So unique compared to other movies. While some situations aren't realistic, there's a line they had to walk to keep it interesting and realistic at the same time and it was fucking spot on. And I love how they kept around the things that made the other movies great. They didn't stray far from tradition and that is perfect. I can't even describe how good it is
You might think that Charlie just got out of the shower, but that is in fact not the case. The movie was so good that even HE was overcome with moisture for this movie. Truly the highest of praise.
I just want to take a moment to praise how well they did the ending to this movie probably one the most intense scenes I've ever seen in a movie with a good pay off.
The dragon breath scene with the video game isometric angle (EDIT: top down angle) that was done all in one take was the highlight of the movie. I also really enjoyed the German Table villain, his personality was amazingly villainous and I did not expect him to be a serious threat against John.
that German Table villain was non other than Scott Adkins, he's a fenomenal fighter, loved his Undisputed movies, they don't have the greatest plots but man, they have amazing fight scenes
I love how they incorporated subtle techniques in his fighting style that account for him being blind. Like the fact he sometimes shoots in triangle patterns. In certain scenes, when someone is next to him or nearby he would shoot in a triangle shape, and one or two of the bullets would miss, but one or two were guaranteed hits because of the pattern. That kind of detail is awesome. They make it clear that he doesn't have some super power like Daredevil. He is just very skilled and very lucky.
Think I like about Donnie's scenes the most - how casual and effortless he makes it look. How elegantly he moves while outpacing seven guys at a time and making sure to act like a blind guy. The little split-second subtleties just peppered in between those insane explosive acrobatics... what a pleasure to watch !
I love that the new villain is not a person but more of an idea. It's been established that even if John kills him someone else will take his place forcing John to pivot into other alternatives instead of forcing his way through. This was definitely a great call instead of giving us a final boss that is ten times larger than John because we know that John is an unstoppable machine so giving us someone that could match him would of been more anti climatic. Everything in this movie worked and I'm glad that I've watched it.
Rest In Peace Lance Reddick. It’s so sad that he passed away a week before the film came out. Regardless, I’m so hyped for the fourth film, and am gonna see it tomorrow in theaters
Just saw the movie with my buddies and all I can say is just wow… Everything about that night club scene had me me in awe. I just interpreted the entire crowd of people still dancing absolutely rolling balls on ecstasy lost in the amazing music
That dragonbreath shotgun sequence is my top 1 most badass scene of all time, I almost got a heart attack by the sheer amount of hype from that... Man...
Jokes aside, Charlie’s John Wick impression at 3:29 was real spot on. I looked away for a sec and thought it cut to a Keanu clip. He himself could genuinely stand in for Keanu if he wasn’t a super beefed 7’9” specimen of a man
One of my favorite scenes in the movie was when Shimazu and Caine were swordfighting, because it looked so good, but you could also tell how much Caine didn't want to fight someone he saw as a brother. After he defeats him, you can even see how he feels guilty, and tells his daughter to leave. Great scene, great movie.
RIP Lance. *John Wick films- incredible. *Destiny voice acting- incredible. *HZD and HFW voice acting as Sylens- incredible. You will be incredibly missed.

Finished it at the cinemas rn and i recognized the japanese references and 1 anime reference 😂 which only i understood but nonetheless i love this series, the music, quality, acting, mystery, action is perfect
I enjoyed all of it. It was pretty long, but I walked in with a little head ache and I had to sit close to the screen, but it was great. The action sequences near the end were amazing. I did notice the not- reloading and the whole theater and I laughed when John fell
I really loved this movie. It was really beautiful, and the action scenes honestly felt like art. Some really heartfelt moments throughout too. Definitely my favourite one of the franchise.
Honestly, who expected John Wick 4 to be bad? The movies were incredible, and of course, this movie did it all. Props to Chad Stahelski and everyone who worked on this amazing series
I expected it to be fine. The third was good, but it was definitely a step down from the first 2. I expected this to follow the trend and be a little worse than 3.
I don't think I've expected it to be bad but after the third film which I think was lacking in comparison to the first two films. I sorta expected the new one to not reach those heights plus Keanu is getting really old but also then again Scott freaking Adkins is in the film so maybe it'll be just as good as the first two
There was definitely a fear that the John Wick franchise will go down like the fast and furious franchise, milking the shit out of it until it becomes ridiculous
I really hope the team keeps going and makes a movie focused around Mr Nobody. John was always more of the fighter class in terms of engaging enemies, whereas Nobody is more like the scout/tracker types. would love to see more grounded and smaller scale contracts be taken on by Nobody where he really gets to show off his tactical and operational style

John Wick is very much like a videogame in that there are no police around during the action, and there are no conscious bystanders.
Suppressed pistol gunshots might be masked by loud club music but an unsuppressed gunshot inside of a room will definitely be heard by everyone.
I just really enjoy the allegory of video game mechanics, as an action movie. John being able to take ridiculous amounts of damage, "npcs" not reacting to firefights, the crazy kills, John using a lot of the same moves. It all feels like video games levels for each fight and minimal "cutscene" story scenes
i like to think it makes the viewers understand how truly isolated john is and that its one man against the whole world
The club people are probably on drugs idk
Have you thought about the possibility that the club goers were just high on party drugs?

So when something gruesome happened, like when John jumps out a window and falls down far, we all went “oooh!”. And that scene when he keeps falling down the stairs, we were laughing our asses off. Having a vocal audience makes watching a movie so much better

Felt bad he didn’t win anything in the end
No he didn't. He had zero arc 🤣

Donnie Yen absolutely killed his role. His fight scenes were a treat to watch.
Absolutely, one of my favorite actors
His fighting scenes were so damn clever
The cinematography in this film is astounding
So wholesome of Charlie to be supportive of his brother. That and the fact that Charlie is also a very famous celebrity in the movie industry.
He himself could genuinely stand in for Keanu if he wasn’t a super beefed 7’9” specimen of a man
Same. It was spot on
It's nice that John Wick was able to act out the Charlie role in this video. Pretty accurate.
Holy shit pahahaha
Bro walked through a storm to deliver this message
One of my favorite scenes in the movie was when Shimazu and Caine were swordfighting, because it looked so good, but you could also tell how much Caine didn't want to fight someone he saw as a brother. After he defeats him, you can even see how he feels guilty, and tells his daughter to leave. Great scene, great movie.
Dude I want to see their fight if Shimazu wasn't wounded beforehand. Would have been legendary
We all not gunna mention how spot on Charlie's voice impression of John Wick was?
RIP Lance.
*John Wick films- incredible.
*Destiny voice acting- incredible.
*HZD and HFW voice acting as Sylens- incredible.
You will be incredibly missed.
As a D2 player myself, I'm thankful to see comments like these.
Rest well Commander Zavala. o7
man i just started replaying the horizon games recently. he did a flawless transition into voicework and the character is absolutely integral to the games. his presence is rly gonna be missed in any future entries.
Let's not forget his brilliant performance as Agent Phillip Broyles in Fringe.
can’t forget about his goated performance in one of the best tv shows ever, the wire.
Rest in peace Commander
Personally, I think the first movie was the best of the franchise. But all the movies are incredible.
I was in Japan when John Wick 4 came out, back i'm home now, watching it tonight. Finally
As someone who just finished watching John Wick 4, I can easily say it is one of the best action thriller movies they have released ever, and just overall extremely well-directed and produced
Wow it's one of the best of 4? What are the odds?
Finished it at the cinemas rn and i recognized the japanese references and 1 anime reference 😂 which only i understood but nonetheless i love this series, the music, quality, acting, mystery, action is perfect
How about one of the best action movies of all time? What's the point of saying it is one of the best of the franchice lmao
@@Makoto_Misum1 It went crazy right!? I just came out the cinema now as well and immediately came back to this review to finish it xD
@@joshdavies6465 it was PERFECT and my first time going to cinemas and everyone yelled daddy keanu at the start 😂
I sorta expected the new one to not reach those heights plus Keanu is getting really old but also then again Scott freaking Adkins is in the film so maybe it'll be just as good as the first two
@@dark_winter8238 i get that, 3 was still good, but watching the 4th it feels like the 3rd is setting up the stage for 4th
There was definitely a fear that the John Wick franchise will go down like the fast and furious franchise, milking the shit out of it until it becomes ridiculous
@@lanzpat0725 I expect every movie to be bad these days
Charlie's John Wick "Yeah" and "No" was freaking spot on
Fr
I KNOW RIGHT, it almost startled me when he did the “yeah” LMAO
I thought it was a Keanu Reeves sound bite and had to rewind to check lol
So glad someone mentioned it I was scrolling through the comments waiting to see this comment
The top down action sequence was completely unexpected and the best action sequence I have ever seen
One of the best movies I've ever seen, action, story, suspense. Perfect ending I wouldn't have it any other way.
It's because of Keanu reeves, he is perfect for the role
My only complaint was the falls being so dramatic
John wick gets killed
@@BestOfAnimalss yes
Overrated garbage
Just watched it and it honestly was one of the best films of this year. Hands down a fantastic experience
The best movie of the year
this year has just started
@@el-xg6pu Everything Everywhere All At Once came out around this time last year as well. And guess what? It was still the best movie of 2022. JW4 could easily be the best film of this year
This year 😂 3 months in bro. But given the state of movies these days, wouldn’t be surprised if this maintained best film of the year.
@@kousabishi4703 Everything everywhere all at once is also a banger film
