9:48 I'm gonna disagree by the time we saw Thanos on screen as the villain of the movie we knew he wanted the infistones for something and it wasn't good. They built a mad sense of foreboding around Thanos that was only added to when we saw him win.
I agree with YOU, just showing 2 seconds of him builds hype, so by the time he was on the big screen the fans had already built him up because of the footage
Again, they stil are dealing with Chapek's unfinished bad buisness, so, clean slate, start putting more efford on quality than quantity. Yes, they need a clear path for this and fingers crossed, they can focus on giving us a good start for X-men ...
@@Dulphin_editz_TDPIt aint about the money. Its about his name, face, and reputation with the fans. When I saw the headline, I did think that Marvel's getting desperate as well. That was my first thought, so no 'Big Name Influencer" influenced this initial reaction. They dont know how to re-create what they did in the first phases of the MCU, so they're relying on RDJ (whom they made into a star) because they dont know how to create NEW stars through good movies anymore. Honestly, i think they should stop focusing on getting Big Name Actors and instead focus on good writing for the movie to succeed and let it speak for itself.
I feel like RDJ deserves more build up for his villain than is usually afforded in the MCU. If the first time we see him is in the next Avengers movie, that just seems like a huge mistake. They were clearly trying to build up Kang more than their usual, so I hope they will do the same for Doom.
He has been confirmed to be in the Fantastic 4 movie, though to what extent we don't know. He has also been confirmed to be from their universe. I watched most of "New Rockstars" videos on it and it seems realy reliable.
Honestly, I don't understand why they didnt grab RDJ and Make him into superior Iron man and grab someone else as Doom. That would've made more sense since we are doing the Battle world story.
@@JojoDrip if Disney actually wants to start making money again after all the endless colossal failures… they are going to start by playing it safe and stick to the source material
Starts video with how Doom is actually a great leader who loves his people Halfway through: "how would spiderman react to seeing him as an evil dictator?"
I've never read comics, but I've watched Wiki Weekends, and my favourite thing about Dr. Doom has to be that when he left his house for college, he told his dad "you're the man of the house now"
I think it could be a bit of both? I am just speculating, but if I were to guess. The main reason is the money but he definetly has a soft spot for the MCU as it revived his career and will enjoy being back at it.
It does seem a whole lot less planned out and thoughtful now though then it used to be, Thanos was literally teased in Avengers 2012 and it took all the way until 2019 for that saga to play out. Now, they can't even keep Kang down as the villain for a few years or so and suddenly Dr Doom has just come out of the woodwork, who's meant to be the big bad not to soon from now, but there's literally been zero build up for him showing up unlike all the delicate building for Thanos.
My problem with this is that the change this is supposed to be to shake things up isn't a change at all. RDJ is an amazing actor and I'd love to see him in more things, but he played his role in the MCU and bringing him back has a lot of negatives outside of the meta of the story. I also an pumped to see Dr. Doom, but having RBJ does feels desperate and instead of paving the way to the future feels like we are firmly clinging to the past.
I agree about RDJ being a great actor and as much as I’m glad to see him return to the silver screen, I wish it wasn’t Marvel again because he’s voiced his concerns about not being able to get proper roles and it shows with his only prominent roles outside the MCU was Sherlock golems (which is amazing but underperformed), Doolittle which was meh and bombed and Oppenheimer which was amazing and he deserved the awards. I just hope RDJ won’t be shunned from future roles because not only will he play possibly two of the most iconic roles in the MCU or be turned down because this movie is a flop
11:30 they’ve already confirmed that he is an alternate universe character, BUT he was roommates with an alternate Tony Stark during college, I think. He’ll still be playing the original idea of Doom, and staying as Viktor
@@erickamakeeaina1649 That seems what it will be. Which misses all the possible points and enters the usual 'what if' stories which are nice to browse but not what made the OG character popular.
You've got a point about comic characters resembling their film counterparts... Superman _still_ looks remarkably like Christopher Reeves, and will for ages.
I gave up on Marvel after Phase 4, and am proud to say I haven't seen anything from Phase 5. But I finally caved and saw Deadpool & Wolverine, and while it's extremely flawed, I really enjoyed it, and it singlehandedly convinced me to give Marvel another chance. The next week, I learned that RDJ was back as Dr. Doom. Aaaaaand that was the moment my interest in Marvel's future completely died.
Anyone who's read the original Infinity Gauntlet saga of comics knew from the moment that Thanos was revealed in the post-credits of the first Avengers movie that the build-up to a competent adaptation of that storyline was _absolutely_ gonna be worth it and pay off. The only genuine disappointment we had in its execution was the lack of Adam Warlock and therefore the change in Nebula's significance during Thanos's actual possession of the completed Gauntlet in order to keep consistent with the MCU's version of events.
When your partner cheats on you, many times, you don’t wanna go back with them, no matter what. It feels like they cheated on us, I don’t wanna go back
I'd be down for this actually, it lets Marvel have their cake and eat it too. They can do something similar to what they did with the High Evolutionary in Guardians 3: Doom spends most of the movie(s) with RDJ's face, and then it's revealed towards the end that the Tony face is an advanced prosthetic, revealing the classic horrifically-scarred Doom face underneath.
My main issue with RDJ's casting is that Doctor Doom is one of Marvel's few prominent Romani characters, and he is now the third one they've miscast, following Wanda and Pietro. If you were going to do Doom, I would go the Darth Vader route--have a big, strong, intimidating guy in the suit, and get a Roma voice actor to do the voice. Also, if they wanted to bring RDJ back for the nostalgia and story potential, there are better ways to do it than making him Doom. The simplest solution is to have him be an evil Iron Man from an alternate universe--you could combine Superior Iron Man from the Axis event, showing off the awesome EndoSym armor in the process, with the evil Reed Richards variant from Earth-1610, the Maker. Like you said, this could be a Tony that went down a darker path in order to put a suit of armor around the world. This allows for even better story potential than Doom simply looking like Tony, since this alternate universe Tony could have connections with his universe's variants of MCU heroes. Perhaps evil Tony's Spider-Man was killed, so he's just as shocked to see Peter as Peter is to see him. Or perhaps evil Tony's Pepper walked out on him after he turned bad, so evil Tony goes after Earth-199999's Pepper, and she and Rhodey have to fight him off. If you're looking for the nostalgia of an evil Iron Man, having him actually be an evil Iron Man makes for a much better story.
19:49 I still can’t believe they actually have Deadpool running around the Disney parks. I reallly want to watch one of those interaction things, but I’m scared of cringey interactions.
I mean, they have 'fascist space goons' running around the parks (Storm Troopers) but I think dead pool being a foul mouthed killer just comes off as more 'real' to people? Edit - I mean yeah, the storm troopers are baddies, but it does make me think a little about how it really is just 'merchandise' as far as Disney is concerned.
I haven't seen much acting diversity in the work he has done so to me he's another on trick pony like captain Jack sparrow... I mean... That dude that always plays captain Jack sparrow. What's his name again...

Yeah, RDJ is just too ingrained in the MCU as Iron Man to even attempt at another role here, especially like Dr. Doom; Cillian Murphy would’ve been perfect for the role.
16:13 It makes sense why it works. It's literally what most fanfics are about; taking a character out of a situation or putting them in a completely different one.
4:42 you are forgetting that in the comics that Dr Doom was judged by Bast the Panther god who has the ability to see the heart of men and kills anyone who is impure, and Dr Doom survived.
@@TheFirstRamenKamen This also I think Bast was able to look into the many branches of the multiverse/branching timelines and the only one that the entire human population was happy and prosperous for was the world that Dr. Doom was able to conquer the world.
I feel like if they were recasting RDJ, they should’ve recasted him as Ultron. Include scene where Ultron conquers Kang (as Kang is just a human with advanced technology that Ultron could easily hack) in any series and becomes new big bad. Ultron established villain with potential to evolve like he did in comics.
Alright little theory dump They had a good story idea with Kang and the whole “I’m afraid of myself.” idea with the variants and stuff. What if they adapted and already good running story that instead makes RDJ a better Doom who’s typical ways of trying to take over or do his own thing in his own way reveals he’s trying to stop a more monstrous version of himself in the only way he can see fit, with the movie ending with the big bad doom killing RDJ’s one off. That leaves the cliff hanger going into secret wars introducing our main doom cast member. That would be cool.
13:35 While it could have been you got that big of a reaction due to it being different, I think a good portion of the cheering was also in reference to the fact that Evan's first character in a Marvel movie was as the Human Torch in the 2005 Fantastic Four movie.
Doom is meant to use a mask 99% of the time. So his face really isn't that important when it comes to an actor. They could have used any B list actor to play Doom and completely hide his face. RDJ really shouldn't make a difference other then acting skills. So, sadly, seems like they are going to do something about him being Ironman in the past. Multiverse yada yada yada.
I personally think the best way to go is make him infamous iron man, that way if they mess it up then all they gotta do is say he was just a version ( kinda a guaranteed bail out )
12:10 Spider-Man of all people would probably be the least over reactive over Doom looking like Tony, he's met variants of himself with different faces and much older than him in varying degrees. He might freeze up once or twice but he wouldn't and shouldn't be super confilicted.
I disagree because its Tony, someone who acted as a father figure to him. We see how much they rely on each other in Infinity War when Spidey gets snapped away, and vice versa in endgame when we see how much it broke Tony. I do agree though that Spidey will have to get over it after the first or second shock, but I imagine he will be fully stunned the first time.
But this is also the Peter who tried to save villains from other dimensions. Seeing Tony's face will only make him more eager to try and help make Doom good
You should see him in the synthesizer he plays, Viennese man, and five individuals at the same time he’s such a great actor regardless of this I believe he’ll be great and he will do his own version of doom spectacularly
'The cheer RDJ got was insane'.... with that recording, was it a theater of like 20 people? It might just be the recording not sounding as big as it was, but that was unimpressive
I like the idea of RDJ being Doom, but I think they should've used this opportunity to have a big reveal and shock moment in the movie. Like have a post-credit scene where Dooms mask is destroyed or damaged where you can tell who he is, than have him fall through a portal in front of Tom Holland's Spider-Man, then we see Peter's shocked expression after quickly removing his mask, and then a close up of his face revealing RDJ as Doom.
That would certainly be interesting if Doctor Doom isn't actually Victor von Doom but instead is a variant of Tony Stark. One that never got hit by his own weapons and had to be saved by Yinsen in a cave and bust himself out (which is the whole catalyst for why he stopped making weapons and became a hero) and instead got into a downward spiral and became powerhungry thinking he alone could save and protect the world.
I think that people forget that RDJ is an actor. His whole job is to act like other personalities. Most people only know him as Tony Stark so they think it’s all he can do.
As someone who's been watching these channels since the very beginning I got to say out of all four of the new hosts I think you do the best job. No disrespect towards the other three I just really like your content I think it coincides the most with how Matpat used to do it
I still don’t know how this will work from a lore standpoint. I really hope they’re not gonna just take the lazy route and say “✨Multiverse✨”, but knowing Marvel, that seems more than likely. I have a lot of probably foolish hope for the MCU after Deadpool & Wolverine and I really want them to keep up the good work, but with Agatha as the next project, it kinda seems unlikely
Does it matter? Marvel takes their bigger name properties seriously. People need to stop acting like they weren’t in tears watching Endgame in theaters.
Based on my understanding of the comics, I'd say mind swap. Doctor Doom steals Tony Stark's body. My crazy prediction theory is that John Malkovich is playing an old and dying Doctor Doom in Fantastic Four.
@@cameronhodgetts920that could be interesting and I really hope that they would go that route rather than the “This is a multiverse variant/anchor being” alternative.
If they go for the Doctor Doom is a variant of Iron Man and they do it RIGHT, this could be good. Great video, thanks for keeping my mind open on this casting decision!! Still curious how they will remove Kang tho...

I don't hate RDJ for the salary because you know Disney was the one who came to him. They are so terrified of their own mess they must have literally begged him to come back
What they should have done: Announce a fake actor for doom who actually plays a different role. There’s a comic book series (The Infamous Iron Man) where, in an alternate universe, Victor Von Doom becomes Tony Stark. Then, he travels to the main Marvel Comics universe (somehow). I think that’s what they’re going for in Doomsday and Secret Wars.
9:48 I'm gonna disagree by the time we saw Thanos on screen as the villain of the movie we knew he wanted the infistones for something and it wasn't good. They built a mad sense of foreboding around Thanos that was only added to when we saw him win.
Yes , the post credit scene in avengers got everyone stirred up and when guardians hit everyone was onboard.
We all saw the snap coming from the second we saw Thanos.
I read infistones are flintstones
I agree with YOU, just showing 2 seconds of him builds hype, so by the time he was on the big screen the fans had already built him up because of the footage
Exactly. Although we saw him in only short segments, there was still that presence of a looming threat.

@@Dulphin_editz_TDP wait that is true I just noticed that… Yea this is a big Karen then isn’t it?

They are definitely going to have him show his face all the time. I'm not confident that Disney even has a long term plan.

Well...

My fun theory is that Dr Doom is going to do a Hush by making his face look like Iron Man to mess with people and make him be popular.
Does anyone else here know about the comic wear Dr. doom and Iron Man switch bodies in which Dr. doom becomes Iron Man?
Perhaps Dr. doom gets plastic surgery in the MCU to look like Tony Stark
Fantastic Beasts, anyone? Turns out, Doom is actually Johnny Depp.
The body swap comic is demon in an armor
This is my main concern.

They had a good story idea with Kang and the whole “I’m afraid of myself.” idea with the variants and stuff. Doom is meant to use a mask 99% of the time. So his face really isn't that important when it comes to an actor. They could have used any B list actor to play Doom and completely hide his face.

I like the idea of RDJ being Doom, but I think they should've used this opportunity to have a big reveal and shock moment in the movie.
Like have a post-credit scene where Dooms mask is destroyed or damaged where you can tell who he is, than have him fall through a portal in front of Tom Holland's Spider-Man, then we see Peter's shocked expression after quickly removing his mask, and then a close up of his face revealing RDJ as Doom.
that is one of the main reasons I hate this idea.
