10 years ago we got the original Avengers, what a movie. Nick Fury was one of the most badass characters in cinema and now he's a quip machine. That movie had heroes that you cared about. They had weaknesses, emotional depth, relatability. Now we have heroes whose overpowered strength feels unearned, and holds 0 emotional weight. It's truly astounding how far the MCU has fallen considering how good it once was.
Games went through an indie renaissance too. Turns out that people making art out of love and passion end up with a better product than corporations who only care about their bottom line (and not even their future bottom line, just the current year!)
This is honestly pretty crazy to me. Marvel has unfettered access to over 80 YEARS worth of stories, many of which were penned by award-winning writers. Planet Hulk, Annihilation, Siege, and Fear Itself are just a few of the fairly RECENT ones I can think of that were absolute bangers (I'd mention House of M and Avengers vs. X-Men, but Marvel hasn't done anything with mutants just yet). And yet they throw together crap like this? It's insane.
Honestly, after Endgame, they should’ve been focusing on the X-men, Fantastic Four, and the future of their Spider-Man. They could build up Doctor Doom and Norman Osborn.
@@OliverJames1 Then why didn't they just do the other characters. Like they could had gave Namor his own movie which had alot of content to go off of from the comics but instead they just use him as a Not Black panther Villian
Yeah, after they retired both Iron Man and Captain America, they really needed to build up factions of MCU that have been relatively untouched, instead they used the remaining Avengers as a crutch and forced them in to being bad comedy sketches over and over again. I know it he didn't have much input on the direction of the movies, but it really seems like ever since Stan Lee passed Marvel took a massive nosedive and has no idea how to tell a compelling story now.
I'm glad that Iman Vellani is universally praised as the only good thing about this movie. She deserves a big chance in a big movie that's not written by an AI
Let's be real here: AI will be able to write BETTER scripts. Why do you think the writers strike also had no ai in their demands? They thought they were talented, special and unique. Turns out they're more easily replaced by AI than the blue collar folks they said "learn to code" to.
My biggest gripe is that it’s supposed to be the Marvels team origin story but the team breaks up as soon as they start actually working together. The only time the audience has really seen Monica is as a side character on other stuff.
Iman Vellani might be the most wasted talent in this whole franchise, you can feel how much passion she has for the comics and characters, and she translates that perfectly in her performance. I REALLY hope she gets better projects in this franchise moving forward.
She loves the comics and they take every opportunity to dump on her they can 😭 she literally tried to correct Kevin feige about some lore and he was like "no"
She was the saviour of this movie. If it wasn't for her and the cat army, this movie would've been an unwatchable mess. She better go to the hospital due to back injury for carrying this movie
I really hope she gets better projects somewhere else. She has a bright future in front of her, because I don't see a far future for Ms Marvel beyond Avengers: Secret Wars. With her reputation as a Marvel superhero, I hope she would get casting offers here and there. Imagine a classic teenage drama with Iman Vellani as a geeky sidekick.
The Marvels is a fusion of light, color, and sound. Action scenes are accentuated with rumbling bass if the theater is so-equipped. It will make a marvillion dollars.
Sounds like the gimmick from 1959's "The Tingler", when they attached something like a joy buzzer to the bottom of theatre seats. In the movie, they talk about some thing that crawls into people's spines and kills them, but if you scream, you'll survive. At the climax, they buzzed audience member's butts and told them to "scream for your lives!".
THAT and the fact that Carol Danvers is apparently a much more likeable character in this than she was in her first movie, apparently she's developed a much more relaxing personality and isn't so snobby like the first.
I'm actually surprised that this movie received this level of bashing from Jeremy and Charlie. I thought it would at least be enjoyable, dumb action movie like Black Adam but this just sounds like Morbius level of bad.
@@kickass2117 I watched another review which had a totally different take that I never even thought of. That this movie was targeted towards kids. The way they had NICK FURY of all people be the comedy relief was insane 😭 i swear the audience was SILENT the whole movie except during the cats scene (the only good thing in the whole movie)
When you see people saying that fans can write better fan stories for movies than the people paid to actually do so, they are completely right. A planet where people communicate via singing?? This is what the paid people write??
It can be done right, but honestly I think that sort of thing is hard to do in a live action movie without it being very corny. But agree, as someone that has been around the fanfic community for like at least 20 years, I don't know how these Hollywood writers get work.
Let’s stop putting the blame on writers, this is definitely executives pushing this crap into these movies. The studios are the ones that approve any bad script.
The production hell this movie has been through is pretty wild. The director even left to do her other movie during post production and reshoots. Not to mention all the other drama
I doubt "the director left", cause her previous one was a Candyman movie, which had already started production by early 2019 and was probably well finished as soon as production for "The Marvels" started in 2021. - If she ever "left" to do anything for "Candyman", it was because they were simply overlapping due to "Candyman" being delayed cause of the pandemic right in the middle, nothing more. - People do multiple projects and they don't always need to be there for every part of it.
@@michaelmonstar4276I disagree, the director can make final calls as to what scenes get cut and what needs a little touch up in the final hours. Think about the Dan Snyder cut of the Justice league- directors change near the very end and the movie changes as a result.

The reason ms marvel and the actress works so well is bc she acquired the role from literally being a huge comic nerd which is so damn awesome and a real life dream come true haha
Agree but she’s great in spite of everything. She’s yet to have good direction at all. Pair her up with Kate bishop and heck give the power to Iman Vellani of writing the story.
I always hated her for being miss marvel. i realised she has nothing to do with her bad ish show.... yes sometimes she is a bit stiff (could be the scripts) but she does stick to the source material enouch
Agree. However, I am a little worried that with the intense backlash from people who scream random nonsense such as “the m-she-u is ruining everything,” we will not be able to see many more passionate actors such as Iman Vellani take part in these comic book adaptations. Or have more characters such as Ms. Marvel get major development in movies and TV.
I'm glad Chris Hemsworth said he wouldn't return as Thor unless he thought the story was good. He is my favorite character and I don't want him to be ruined any more.
I've always felt bad for the actress that plays Miss Marvel. She seems really cute and seems to really care about her role, and is also a huge MCU nerd so she really loves being part of the universe. It's such a shame that her role is being so mismanaged because I think she has a lot of potential
Doesn't help that she's also playing one of the hated Facist Trio of marvel comic characters that no one can stand. Ms.Marvel, Captian Marvel, and Riri Williams.
Complementing Iman Vellani was so nice to hear. She's such an amazing actress and super passionate about the projects she's in and her character. I just wish her first breakout role wasn't being so dampened by the state of the MCU.
It's so tragic how something as beloved as the MCU has taken such a turn for the worst. There seriously needs to be some sort of reboot that starts after Endgame because trying to make some sort of climax to the level of Infinity War would just be in vain.
Guardians 3 was great, but that was pretty the much the only above average marvel movie lately. Not counting spiderverse, since that is Sony Edit: Loki Season 2 has been pretty solid so far as well.
I really think what happened at marvel is they thought up a kickass ending to the story. They put a nice bow on it, kissed it goodnight, then sent it to the masses. It’s a shame, too. Because those movies are so good. But, it’s because James Gunn (for the most part) knows how to juggle the silly and the serious. A lot of these other directors just… don’t.
It’s funny that this and Loki, one of the most thoughtful and intricate projects Marvel has ever made, released on the same day. Goes to show how little cohesion there is behind the scenes between these movies and shows.
Loki has a lot less CGI. I wonder if the amount of CGI they use in films now has anything to do with the quality. I know there is a big problem in film making now where they just gloss over major flaws and say, 'they can fix it in post-production.' With Loki, the CGI was not really a big enough part of the show to act as a crutch for them. Also, it was clearly much more of a passion project given how many references, easter eggs, and nerd shit has been packed into it.

It's why myself, also feel so bad for daisy riddley. Fuck her career up so much the pnoy work she could get was BACK at disney for the same nonsense. It's honestly tiring how disney has been run since 2018. Ya know, when men, were running a MALE dominated IP. Not saying women can't write but not better than men in this specific genre. Like, I can only think of 2 romcoms with a male focus, but all the rest are made for women because women like that more than men. But men don't demand more representation in spaces we have no want to be apart of. Really shows how little respect women have for males and male spaces that instead of being interested or not they seek to destroy for men. Idk, this female focus on society at the expense of men is backfiring for all who participate.
Shame the comic editors themselves don't understand her character or give a shit. Seriously, it's pathetic to kill her off as a minor plot point of a spiderman comic just to revive her a month later and say she is a mutant all of a sudden. The MCU itself is saying she is human, as well, instead of inhuman.
After they shoved jokes into the middle of a serious conversation about cancer in the last Thor i'm not surprised they started joking after a planet dies in this one

I'm happy for ms.marvel actress. Lotsa people saying she's the only one that did great and hopefully, at the very least, this movie will get her better roles than this in the future.
I think a large part of it is that they're simply too scared or afraid of pitting Cap Marvel against any strong foe that could actually beat her. From her first solo movie to now, her main antagonists only survive until the end based on plot relevance. I think they're just to afraid to show us, the audience, her getting beaten up and that ppl may come after them for showing one of their few female protagonist as anything other than "the absolute strongest at any given time or situation" like even Thor gets his ass kicked in all his movies to build tension and give a payoff when he finally defeats them at the end. But Nah, Cap Marvel is simply too strong to ever really be challenged, apparently.
Iman Vellani deserves so much better, her show was solid enough but she was amazing and her passion for the character is so infectious. Really really hope she gets to be in something that’s as good as her
That’s the popular opinion, fans are saying she deserves better. Heck, she is the real marvel fan that knows more than the directors. Let her write her own character.

The problem is clearly that she hulk should’ve showed up and called the audience too stupid to realize the complexity of this “”””””””””modern””””””””” masterpiece.
The problem is clearly that they didn't have a scene in the movie where they break the 4th wall and tell everyone who doesn't like the movie that they are sexist and support the evil patriarchy that is totally suppressing feminist ideas... that are all over the media for some reason. "It's wants to be like this whacky, quirky, zany comedy, and then sometimes it wants to be a drama, and then sometimes it wants to be action focused..." This line describes almost every MCU project post Endgame (and partially includes Endgame as well)
The mcu always has and always will be like a comic book universe. Serious shit happens but characters will quip and joke about it. Weird ass shit can happen and that might be tonally jarring but it’s just how comic books are. The serious and weird exist in the same universe and sometimes it crosses over
It can work (just look at Guardians of the Galaxy or pre-wokeness action comedies), but you have to understand timing and tone. You also have to take your characters and story seriously.
Imagine having DECADES of source material to draw from to write a script with and then just winging it like a last minute 8th grade book report for a book you never opened let alone read.
Imo most of Loki S2 was a mess, and wasn't even about Loki, then they really turned it around in the finale. The rest of the show kind of was character assassination, but Loki really got to be a glorious tragic hero in that finale, so I'd say those writers have some talent.
It makes alot of sense when you realize they aren't writing movies, they are writing content. These are a collection of RUclips sketches written in a form where they can be combined into a movie, or a series at the drop of a hat. They get a bunch of writers to submit a bunch of short drafts for less pay until they manage to jigsaw a script.
@Adanmacreates I mean kinda, but only if people wrote comic books by ripping individual pages out of other comics and stapling them back together in a random order. Then you hand twelve of those to a studio executive who doesn't read comics so he can decide which your twelve collections of random junk gets stapled onto someone else's to make a script long enough to publish. Oh and you don't know if you're writing a one off or a novel so make both at the same time.
I think what happened with the MCU is that it got so big that the budget on every movie increased exponentially in the corporate suits made them play every movie as safe as possible to have as little risk of losing money as possible.
They also specifically hired women, young writers, an TV directors to make their massive multi-million dollar movies. - Women, who are absolutely capable of doing great work, but society is so focused on "making things right" women are now being forced into positions they are not trained and ready for. Specifically because of their vaginas. This is getting female writers and directors onto projects they are not ready for, as they are coming off of Indie Films or Mid-Budget films and are given HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of dollars to operate a star-studded crew. Disney does this because it is literally still cheaper to hire women instead of men, not because they are being "diverse". - TV Directors are also a massive problem. Of the men that Disney and Marvel hire now, they go for TV directors with a few series in their credits. Ant Man: Quantumania was written by a man who has done: 6 Episodes of Rick and Morty, 7 Episode of Miracle Workers, and 238 Episodes of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" that has other writers. Then they gave him Ant Man. TV Directors are easy to manipulate because this is "their big break", and are cheaper to hire. - Young Writers are desperate, and are extremely easy to manipulate. They have no respect from anyone in the industry, so nobody will defend them. They are bright-eyed and motivated by passion, which means you can absolutely pay them less because they are "just happy to be here, part of the MCU they grew up with". They are also a penny a dozen, let alone a dime.
nothing safe about this garbage. I feel a bit violated and I havent even been able to motivate myself to watch and/or finish a few of this phase’s projects
I remember Samuel Jackson criticizing the treatment of his character in the first Ms.Marvel (as much as he could get away with anyway.). He said it didn’t align with his character but maybe imaginably a younger stage of him. Now they’ve got no excuse I guess, they can’t damn help themselves. I also remember them advertising Nick Fury and not the titular character on Twitter back when the ticket sales already seemed to be a lie (common claims of empty theatres and unfavorable general audience reviews) and then they tried advertising it again for streaming. Even Brie Larson seemed sarcastic about the future of her character in some interview I saw a clip of a while back. It’s hard to say Disney wouldn’t care about yet another major financial and brand health loss but you really gotta wonder what the oversight on all this looks like in just wanting a decent movie released.

Im assuming you have no knowledge of the comics, Marvel is nowhere near its peak, let the f4 and mutants come first, and if they do bad, then yea marvel is looking horrendous, but the mcu is still having a hangover from endgame.
(loki season 2 finale is the best thing from marvel since endgame btw)
Our expectations were at zero but Marvel managed to score a negative integer wow
Glad that you gave Iman Vellani and the character of Mrs. Marvel a shoutout. It's a shame that show went under the radar because she's one of their best recent characters and Vellani is a massive talent.
I really loved the part where Captain Marvel stood in the face of the enemy and yelled "Marvel's....assemble!". Truly one of the scenes in cinematic history
Ok
Still can't beat Morbin' Time
Those farts are probably at least better than the MCU's farts

@@DangerB0neActually, every dialogue line from DB Evolution is the best line. And the wacky laugh from twilight.
I feel bad for Samuel L Jackson, he waited so long to start acting more in marvel and this is what he is getting
I don’t think we need to feel bad. He’s had a better career overall than most actors ever.
I'm happy for ms.marvel actress. Lotsa people saying she's the only one that did great and hopefully, at the very least, this movie will get her better roles than this in the future.
I feel bad for all of the actors because they are going to get destroyed by fans because the movie was badly written

Funny how they wrote her as such a strong hero it’s impossible to make a good villain that can beat her 😂. Great job
@@Jamaltc15Basically the Mary Sue trope
@@oxoboo Mary Sue tropes can actually be pretty cool if done correctly (look at Tanya the Evil), but marvel just.. yeah.

I feel she still have promising career near future, unlike Brie
Clearly she didn't think so
Why do you think she took this role?
She wanted to neuter her career with an awful film it seems
I wasn't a fan of her show but she's a good actress
She seems very likeable in her show
I love how Marvel has a billion awesome villains to pull from and still chooses to use... Dar Benn? Is that the name?
Then when they choose a good villain, they completely butcher it. Specifically Ultron, my fucking God that was the worst iteration of Ultron ever
@@gjfk Don't forget cloud daddy Dormammu
@@gjfklets not forget how they fumbled with Kang and won't be using him going forward…. But Ultron could have been a massive threat, as shown in the What If series; but they massacred a potential story arc that would of been very interesting.

The name's actually Dahr Mann
One of the things Charlie said sounded straight outta one of those old movie reviews.
"The only thing new in this movie is the new low it reached for Marvel."
The problem is clearly that she hulk should’ve showed up and called the audience too stupid to realize the complexity of this “”””””””””modern””””””””” masterpiece.
i would have respected the movie more if that happend.
I would love that! Very on brand for them.
“Your too stupid to understand the complexities of this modern masterpiece, this movie isn’t stupid YOUR STUPID”
Not enough quotations
The problem is clearly that they didn't have a scene in the movie where they break the 4th wall and tell everyone who doesn't like the movie that they are sexist and support the evil patriarchy that is totally suppressing feminist ideas... that are all over the media for some reason. Hmm I wonder if you're actually suppressed if your ideas are the mainstream view.
"It's wants to be like this whacky, quirky, zany comedy, and then sometimes it wants to be a drama, and then sometimes it wants to be action focused..."
This line describes almost every MCU project post Endgame (and partially includes Endgame as well)
@@zogwort1522but you can overuse it, the entire Marvel brand has been just this one thing and they have been overusing it for decades now.
The mcu always has and always will be like a comic book universe. Serious shit happens but characters will quip and joke about it. Weird ass shit can happen and that might be tonally jarring but it’s just how comic books are. The serious and weird exist in the same universe and sometimes it crosses over
@@zogwort1522 same with most tokusatsu
It can work (just look at Guardians of the Galaxy or pre-wokeness action comedies), but you have to understand timing and tone. You also have to take your characters and story seriously.
Nothing wrong with the concept. Marvel isn't DC and not every character needs to be a Batman
My favorite part of this movie was the part when the credits rolled, pretty good scene.
Imagine having DECADES of source material to draw from to write a script with and then just winging it like a last minute 8th grade book report for a book you never opened let alone read.
On the flipside, Loki is absolutely incredible. Honestly, the showrunners should be in charge of the MCU going forward
Ahahahahh Loki is so shit wtf are you on
There are lots of problems with Loki too. Character assassination
Imo most of Loki S2 was a mess, and wasn't even about Loki, then they really turned it around in the finale. The rest of the show kind of was character assassination, but Loki really got to be a glorious tragic hero in that finale, so I'd say those writers have some talent.
Loved the S2 finale! It God Loki Funko Pop on sale soon…

So they're writing a comic series that has like 20 pages each lol
And end up losing more than just money.
I feel a bit violated and I havent even been able to motivate myself to watch and/or finish a few of this phase’s projects
they gotta start knocking an hour off these movies or sum
I'm just glad people are finally realizing how great Ms. Marvel is
She's just a wholesome teenager having fun being a superhero
Like Wiz Khalifa?
“Wholesome” what a angel 😇👼
I hope that James Gunn's DCU kicks off and movie after movie they stomp Marvel's in the box office. That'll give them hopefully somewhat of a waking-up call. But tbh at this point I have no faith in the MCU, there's legit only three movies I gave a shit about after Endgame, the two Spider-Man movies and GOTG Vol 3. I doubt the DCU will even be that good tbh but I trust James Gunn 10x more than the schmucks at Marvel thats for sure
@@eirzaa0429 Marvel deserves to be embarrassed that DC ever did better than them with an extended universe. To me I think they’ll be equally bad I’ll settle for a fickle damning critical reception before carrying on not caring.
