    It's true, the fluid will last the "life" of the transmission! Even if that means the life is shortened by not changing the fluid.

      @billdougan4022 5 лет назад +32

      It should say the 'fluid lasts, the life of the transmission warranty.' The transmission warranty is 60k miles, the fluid will last that long, but changing it makes it last 5x longer.

      Years ago I bought a tabbed binder called Auto Record with sections for Gas & Oil, Lubrication, Repairs & Accessories and Tire Mileage. I log performed maintenance and repairs. Today, I believe there may be smartphone app to log that. I still keep the log, although they are not sold anymore, but I produced my own using software and a printer. I use a new one for each car I have owned for the past 40 years. Better than having to search your memory and it allows you to keep an eye on maintenance intervals and state of repair for your vehicle. In addition, I have four small Honda bikes and each one has its own book.

      I had a yard cart when I was a kid that used a CVT with a rubber drive belt. I tore that belt to shreds every week just about. With cars, I don't understand why they can't just clean the tranny up and replace the metal chain/belt when a CVT goes out. I heard you can't rebuild them easily.. They seem pretty simple compared to a regular tranny. Of course I'm not a mechanic so what do I know..

    Scotty, On many cars the first plug is the fill level indicator, thus “almost” none should come out unless the oil is above room temperature. If the vehicle fluid is room temperature, (engine off 16 hrs) only then you can refill the same amount you extracted. However, using the overflow plug method has an oil temperature spec methodology that has to be followed. -best, -hg

    There is one thing I wished scotty had pointed out and that is the code that is written on the fill bolt in this case (FE). This indicates which transmission fluid should be added to the transmission. There are other codes like WS and TC that are written on Toyota Transmission fill cap so just be vigilant that the right fluid is going into your transmission.

    Recommend caution when refilling with same amount taken out unless your are super sure that it was properly filled to begin with and also that your measuring method is accurate. Otherwise I would recommend refilling with stated capacity in your manual or Haynes manual. For added assurance most of these allow for “finger checking” the level through the fill hole or another level checking hole. Love your videos Scotty, you are the man.

    Scotty - for this transmission fluid change, the manufacturer indicates that the fluid temperature is critical, so that the volume added is not too much or too little. By pouring out the old and measuring it, would you not have to replace it with fluid that is the same temperature to ensure the volume is correct?

    • @trentriver
