Ford should investigate the idea of making and selling a vehicle like the regular cab f100....with a straight 6, manual transmission, flare fenders, old fashioned parking brake, keyed doors and ignition, vent wings and a wooden bed. Make it simple, but with all high quality parts and keep the price under $35,000. If they were to do this, they would be swamped with orders and could produce it without changes for 15 years.

If they had the 2.7 six as an option, no other mid sized truck would have touched it. I have a '21 F150, still under warranty (25K miles). A few months ago, the electronics started going wacky. At first, the start/stop feature stopped working. The dealer gave me a list of other features that could disable start/stop, like the rear-window defroster. OK, it's spring, so I don't think it's that. Fast forward, then the display started saying something like "battery saver, start engine or turn it off". Huh? Then the diver's door lock didn't, intermittently. It had a bad case of creeping strangeness.
The dealer said that I'd have to drop it off and wait for the Ford electrical tech to come around. They were so backed up that it could be thirty, maybe ninety days, IN THE SHOP. They'd tested the battery several times, though not perfect, it was well within spec. One of the techs remembered that he had seen a case where a new battery fixed the problem. It did. Great.
Can you imagine leaving your car in the shop for a month, OR THREE?!
My wife has a similar issue with her '19 Mustang. The seat heat and cooling doesn't work. The dealer said that they can pull the seats and see if it was anything obvious. Otherwise, she'd have to leave it for that same month to three. Unbelievable.

@@highwayman1218 No doubt the truth is in there somewhere. My dealer, who has been good in the past, gave me next to zero information, and none good. The truck was less than a year old when it (start/stop only, at first) started happening, but was too intermittent to track down. They tested the battery every time I went in, including the last time when they replaced the battery. The problem was that they were only testing CCA, which was fine. I don't know the details, and they're not technical enough to explain them, but there is something about all of the electronics needed a lot of current, which makes no sense. Anyway, the new battery (at 2-1/2 years) fixed the problem, even though, for two years, they said it was good. The battery was $450, so I'm glad Ford paid for it.
I like the F150, too. This was an annoying problem. I really didn't care much about start/stop, though it's good for about .5 to 1mpg, but something was wrong. I wanted it fixed. Then there was the 1-3 months without it, waiting for a tech to even look at it. That's pi$$ed me off royally.
In the North, batteries don't decay much, but when you need it the most, it has the least power. In the South, it's just the opposite. They decay much faster, but also not as much is demanded of them. This issue was completely different than CCA, though.

Even their best selling f150 truck has a new transmission design that whines like a banshee from cheap straight gears, like they've never built a quiet transmission before and just completely forgot after decades of failure and learning. Had a missing caliper pin from factory on a brand new ford transit that was scraping the rotor. Instead of replacing the rotor, they resurfaced it and then the brakes started making squeaky noises. Driveshaft was making LOUD humming noise brand new as well, because they got rid of the giubo design years ago instead of creating a maintenance schedule for it. Initially they acknowledged the problem, they eventually gaslit me and said it was a normal characteristic. Very evasive tactics out of their service dept in their printoffs for my visits to avoid lemon law litigation. Driveshafts out of stock, 6 month wait time, sold it at a 5k loss and swore off Ford forever.

Ford makes GARBAGE vehicles. In 2005, I bought my first new vehicle, a Ford car. Within the first five thousand miles, the brakes failed on the Ford I was driving, and I almost died. I talked to a Zone Representative from Ford who told me the brake failure was my fault. The state I lived in sent a forensic expert who found that Ford did not put on the brakes properly. I brought this to the attention of Ford and their Zone Representative, who told me to sue them, saying that I would never see a penny. I talked to several lawyers who told me I would never beat Ford in court, even though I was right. Ford does NOT care about its customers; look at how they treated their Pinto customers. Since Ford did not care if I would have died and lost thousands of dollars thanks to the manure they produce, I hope Ford goes out of business.

My 2019 ford, bought new, had serious electrical problems after 2.5 years $1200+ but was originally quoted $2000 (“symptoms were slow turn-over leading to wouldn’t start/completely dead in cold weather-but battery and starter were fine, baffled my personal repair shop and then even the dealer), had a recall for slipping out of park if parking brake wasn’t used, and the nail in the coffin was that the transmission went after 90,000 miles, was quoted $11,000 for a new one. Buh-bye! Sold it to Carvana and went back to Toyota.
As a patriotic American citizen, I wanted to have faith in domestic car brands, but at the end of the day, I need a car that will run reliably for a long time and need less maintenance, since I work on the road and am always driving between 6 states in the Northeast. Not to mention it would appear the auto companies are making cars that deliberately need repairs just outside of warranty, just to boost stock price and profit of car part sales. Honda also seems to be going down the tube…My mother’s new 2022 crv had an electrical/back-up camera issue and I’m pretty sure a recall too.

Gas prices in CA are high because of state taxes and fees. Current gas prices in SoCal (where I used to live) are anywhere from $1 to $1.50 a gallon more than they are in Florida where I live now. Both states have shipping ports and oil refineries, but CA has a lot more oil production than FL. CA bas long claimed to the public that the gasoline used there is a "boutique blend", but given that the state has 40 million residents, it's a pretty effing huge boutique! The higher gas prices in CA are almost all attributable to state gas taxes and fees.

9:59 Caterpillar also makes most of their revenue with spare parts. They make you buy OEM parts, even if it's some standard bolt or whatever that you could buy somewhere else cheaper. If you're not using their oem parts, you loose warranty on your machine.
Thats how a lot of tech companies operate, they sell their machines or whatever and sell spare parts for a premium, often times you can't buy these parts somewhere else so they will charge you big time. And those could be control modules, not even parts that wear over time.
Ford used to be affordable and good and bow they're selling bad cars for premium prices. What they charge for a nice Truck makes a mercedes S class or a Porsche look affordable in comparison. They price themselves out of their entire customer base and so is Jeep and Chrysler and GM. That's why their sales tank. Unaffordable prices and lousy quality.

Scotty, all gas indeed starts out the same. However, the additive package will set them apart. The law requires a certain amount of detergent be added to all gas sold in the US. Cheap off brand gas is cheaper because the gas likely has just this minimum amount of detergent. Most name brand station sell top tier gas. Top tier gas has more than the minimum amount of detergent required by law. Studies have shown that using top tier gas keeps your engine cleaner. Of course, the cleaner your engine, the better for your engine. Would love for you to take a good look at top tier gas and see if changes your mind thinking all gas is the same.

He got a great deal from a family member BUT its a couple years old and has electrical issues, bed cover leaks/alignment issues, headlights stay on for 15 mins lengths of time when he locks it draining the battery, static/buzzing in stereo system etc. Top line Platinum and he has 7-8 issues within 2 yrs. My 19 year old '05 Camry is flawless with almost 200,000 on it and runs like a clock for example.
When he brought it to our local dealership, they told him they dont give out rentals, so he was without a car for work.
This is the same dealership that I dealt with at my last job that brought an E350 van in for a new engine, took 2 weeks to do the work, then the same day we got it back, it blew the water pump and left the crew stranded in the middle of the highway.

Wish Ford would! Bought a 2023 F150 back in March from my local dealership. They were getting rid of last year models. Offering great deals. Been wanting a truck for a while. Thinking why not. Bought the truck new. 13 miles on the odometer. Since then the truck has been in the shop 6 times. Issue as follow…..HVAC froze over. Major issue with this year model when doing software upgrade. Driver door need to be adjusted and aligned due to not being installed correctly from the manufacturing plant. Digital instrument cluster complete went out. Instrument cluster replaced. Rear clunk noise from differential. Service thought it was the slip joint shaft on the driveshaft. After repair was done…..truck back in shop for 3 weeks. Techs couldn’t figure it out. Honestly I think it just sat. Service called and said truck is ready. Bring it back if noise gets worse. A few days later. Noise is back and worse. Now the whole rear end is being rebuilt. Ring and pinion gears, bearings, seals, and shims. Mind you the truck now has 2600 miles on it. Only in town driving. Who knows what will be the next issue. Ford quality and service has gone to hell.
