    My check engine light turn on one day and I took it over to a company to scan it. Code came up with the mass flow sensor problem. We looked how much for each one. I was shocked at 239.99 each and not in stock. I ran out the door and looked up Scotty. Man I tell you what, I want to Walmart they had a $20.00 kit for throttle body and mass flow sensor cleaner. Sent an hour and took both intakes off to clean the throttle body’s. Then took the sensors off the intakes and sprayed cleaned both sensors. I walked away for 15 min and checked my work all parts were clean and dry. Put everything back together and took for a 5 min test drive. Check engine light as soon as I came off the drive way and a year later has not returned. Thanks Scotty!!! You saved me hundreds of dollars

    Two points I would like to make. #1, I cleaned my MAF sensor and my gas mileage improved substantially. Also, my car does run better as a result. Totally worth it, but you have to buy MAF cleaner and ONLY use that. You can damage the MAF sensor using anything else. Point #2, what Scotty does to clean the throttle is technically OK, It would be a better idea to remove the throttle from the engine so you clean it more effectively. This also helps reducing the possibility of crud and dirt entering into the engine when you spray. Just a warning about the throttle, most cars have an electronically controlled throttle like my car (2007 Mazda 6). If I were to push on the throttle like Scotty does to clean the inside, I would destroy my throttle since the throttle is calibrated to to a certain position by the car's computer. Make sure you check if you can manually push your throttle open, otherwise removing it from the vehicle is a better way to clean it.

      I’m shocked nobody pointed out it’s NOT ok to open the throttle body if it’s by wire not not cable. I’ve seen first hand what a finger poke in a throttle body can do. Ruin it, and $500 fix. Do t poke your fingers through a throttle by wire throttle body if you want a happy career as a tech.

    • @gandhisFlipFlops
      @gandhisFlipFlops 16 дней назад

      That about throttle body is not true electronic thortlte just means there is an actuator and gears. Moving something manually that is designed to move two ways won't obviously damage it.

    Please take note that if you clean your mass air flow sensor you cannot clean it with brake cleaner. You have to use a mass air flow sensor spray., it doesn’t leave residue behind such as brake cleaner, which could potentially give inaccurate readings.

    • @o_ox_x4638
      @o_ox_x4638 5 лет назад +18

      Gustavo Estrada-Blas it’s not residues that’s the problem. It’s the solvent levels are too aggressive on that electrical unit.
      Using the throttle body cleaner and MAF sensor cleaners are better suited for their specific functions. One has a faster drying time etc.

    • @trulysick86
      @trulysick86 5 лет назад +15

      Any electronics cleaner will do... No residue is the goal

    • @o_ox_x4638
      @o_ox_x4638 5 лет назад +6

      trulysick86 the electrical connector spray has a higher solvent level and drys much slower than the MAF spray.
      The reasoning behind that is that spray will clean about two Sensors (or one).
      The manufacturer of the cleaners has data on the sprays so that anyone can make a more educated decision. I suggest you look into that before you start working on more modern cars that are sensitive to solvent levels. Better yet do what the vehicle manufacturer recommends.

    • @drew1k978
      @drew1k978 5 лет назад +7

      Tbh I just cleaned my MAF sensor yesterday with MAF Cleaner and my car didn't start after. Even with the sensor cleaner you got to becarefull and not get to close, those sensors are damn sensitive

    • @o_ox_x4638
      @o_ox_x4638 5 лет назад +7

      Drew 1K tbh read the manufacturers specifications before you spray anything.
      If it does not start afterwards and there was no warning in regards to the solvents being used. Chances are that MAF sensor was on the verge of failing.

    Mine has a m.a.p sensor which requires a little care when cleaning. Car runs smoother as a result. Had a duff injector which made the 02 sensor stop switching, ecu detected misfire on cylinder 3 so replaced injector and cleaned the sensor and low and dehold it started switching again. It's amazing how one fault can lead to many. A scanner and a bit of detective work does wonders. Love your advice scotty.

    Hey Scotty I maintain a fleet of trucks and heavy equipment.
    I found with our gas engine Chevy trucks that are drive by wire (no throttle cable) When I clean the throttle blades and move them by hand it will affect how the engine runs until it re learns the throttle position and will idle higher than usual.
    If I clean them and not change the blade manually it won’t have any idle issues.
    To be able to clean inside without forcing the blade open by hand I turn the key on push the throttle pedal down with a rod, the blade will open electronically and I can clean inside the throttle body without causing any issues.

      If you're mechanically inclined, the way it's done is removing the throttle body where applicable. Most people who do this themselves are just going to spray debris back into the intake. Some things he makes sound simple. If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.

    • @rodneyjones4890
      @rodneyjones4890 4 года назад +2

      What`s so hard about it ? Anybody can do this, its called not being lazy !! Most of the time it can be cleaned without removal & it wont spray debris into the intake if you spray the cloth & then wipe the throttle body clean !! ITS SIMPLE & IT WORKS !!

    • @bryantr90
      @bryantr90 4 года назад +1

      @@rodneyjones4890 So you're telling me that everyone who sees this video is just going to automatically know what throttle body they do and don't have to take off to properly clean it? That's pretty brave. That's how intakes get blown off of 3.8 series 2 GMs that have a customer try to "clean" their own throttle body. Intake is plastic. But hey, ain't your money! Hey everyone! You might save yourself $150! Or you might have to put a $300 intake on your car because it's plastic and might blow to bits! You know what? Go for it. I make more money putting an intake on a car over cleaning the throttle body anyway.

    Dear Scotty another great video. I use synthetic on all my machinery, cars and motorcycles. As I do the regular maintenance myself and save the labor I change the oil and filters as if I were using semi-synthetic oils at the recommended change times not 1,000 or 2,000 miles that I could. My Isuzu pickup after 70,000 miles runs like new.

      Not really, it's a super easy thing to do. And I've seen them where the engine seems to run perfectly smooth and fine before, but was actually getting noticeably worse gas mileage until I cleaned it. And with the throttle plate... there's usually no screws to remove, just some clamps to loosen.

    All good info as usual Scotty. Not only are you a tremendous help to people but to the environment as well. More on checking tire pressure. Yes overnight cold is mandatory. Included with this is to check the pressures before the sun shines on the tires. If possible park in a garage overnight to keep the sun off all the tires. If a garage isn't available, the night before park your car pointing east, and check the pressures early in the morning before the sun moves onto the tires. Because tires are black the solar load can increase the tire pressure thus the reading. I had a car that displayed the tire pressure in all four wheels. One morning on the expressway I had the tires pressures displayed. After a short time the tires on the sunny side of the car were showing higher pressures than the tires on the opposite side of the car without sunshine.
