I hate to break this to op but their son doesn't have a mom. April was leaving all of the work and stress of taking care of a baby on grandma. Not for a few days to get some rest, not for a week or two, but for months she neglected her new born. Suddenly she wants to be a mother because she understands that's literally her only card on the table to maybe change op's mind about divorcing her and claiming sole custody. Op knows she's good at putting on an act and then dropping the act when she feels like it. I don't blame mil. I wouldn't want a daughter like April to move back in with me.

@@KenW418 I think this mostly correct. I think with strong communication these kinds of things are less likely to happen. You definitely shouldn't need to feel like you can't "let your wife" go to a certain place or do something. To be fair to people who get cheated on, some people are just really great manipulators, and might gasllight, or physically abuse you into thinking that they can't cheat on you or hurt you. Not entirely sure if this reddit story is true. I'd bet about half of them are fake, but they are interesting case studies in psychology real or fake, but in this case she even commited physical assault against her own mother, so someetimes you can't really know.

I feel like OP kinda let all of this happen. If you let a mother get away from her child for five whole months without any consequence AND her making her mother take her responsibilities, that is completely on you. That alone was worth divorcing her for. Of course, I understand he was working and taking care of the whole house, but relationships are 50-50. It takes equal work or one will eventually run the relationship, in this case, April running rampant.
