you're spot on with your breakdown...I have sold large prints of my images that I took with the original X100...and I the images were taken at night. I now shoot with the the x-t30 which I love.

It’s amazing how big you can print with APSC cameras - way bigger than people think

Hi Chris, after watching your previous videos on X-e2, I bought a new X-e2s from old stock in Jakarta. I don't regret it, great photos quality and simple to use. Thanks a lot for your inspiration and great videos!

Great advice. Running an X-30 ( my first Fuji after switching from Olympus ). Then picked up an X-H1 with battery grip, second hand for £700. Love them both 🙂

Great points Chris. I think along with the sensor preference, one should also consider use. Are you going to do just photography? Or, do you want to also shoot video. That answer along with budget can help narrow the field of choices. Happy New Year to you and yours!

Another insightful video Chris. I have and X-Pro1 and X-T3. I've found that the X-Pro 1 images are definitely more film like in jpeg which I mainly shoot. Even at ISO 6400 the results are very pleasing - to me.

HI Chris, I agree with u. I got x-t1 after x-t20 and x-h1, and it is my favorite camera. I had one in back, changed it to silver at mpb. I got x70, x-e2 just. because of the sensor, but x-t1 one is a masterpiece to me. Thx for your video!

Agree on what you say on the sensors.
My "fun" cameras are the X-E1 and X-E2 (X-Trans1 or X-Trans2). I'll take one of them with me on an occasional walk. They're lightweight. If I am chasing for photo's, I take my X-T20 (X-Trans3). For serious work whereby people expect great output, I take my X-T4 (X-Trans4) and X-T2 (Xtrans 3). The longer lens goes then on the X-T4, because of IBIS. The X-T4 is also the one I use with vintage lenses because of its very clear EVF, and IBIS for my vintage telephoto lenses.
I will not buy the X-T5 because I will not use this high resolution. 12mp prints at 60x40cm are already OK, so why would I need it. And it will surely hurt my computer's response time when post-processing. I feel already now the difference between 16mp files and 24/26mp files.
All those camera's were bought 2nd hand over the past 6 years. One day I'll probably sell the X-T2, but currently I hesitate because it feels more sturdy than any of my other Fuji's.
Total budget spent without the X-T2 would be about the same as the budget for a X-T5. Adding the X-T2 makes it €500 more.

This came a few day late. I just sent my X-T1 in to get it set up for IR photography so now I'm inclined to get another X-T1 because of you comments. I always loved the X-T1 but I got caught up in the hype for newer models. Have you ever tried the XQ2? A great pocketable Fuji camera with most of the standard control options. I'd like to see Fuji update this great little camera.

Hi Chris, how times have changed! when I started once I decided to upgrade to APSc there were as you say just the two cameras with the same sensor and output, now the range of options is extraordinary. I am actually considering having a go with one of the new ones, now that the FW 3 upgrade for the HX 2 seems to be offering the quality of continuous autofocus capabilities that none of the earlier ones ever had, this could mean that I could have another go at shooting wild birds in flight which has always been such a struggle.
The problem I have now is just which of the many new ones is the best for me.
    Cheers, Richard.

I'm not really sure what my favourite sensor was, or is.
I've shot with every generation of the XTrans Sensor, and I am not comparing to other brands here
The X-Pro 1 (which I actually got after an X-T10), was fun and had a great output
The X-T10 files were so similar it was easy to shoot with both the Xtran1 and Xtrans2 cameras at the same time. But the Xtrans 2 cameras were just a little better (autofocus etc)
The only Xtrans 3 camera I have used is the X-pro 2 and X-E3 the files were different I did not own either but borrowed the X-Pro 2 extensively. I found it not easy to use both the X-Pro 2 and earlier cameras on the same job as the files were just a little too different when it came to edit them.
The Xtrans 4 cameras, the only one i used (and have used and still do every day) is the X-T3. I love this camera and did not think I would need anything more (and for me maybe i don't) but we just got an X-T5 and what can i say, the resolution increase is nice but... the autofocus is spot on, having used it exclusively in a pop up studio and taken 100's of photos (portraits) it has nailed focus 100% of the time never missed an eye. The X-T3 maybe hits the eye perfect 70% of the time (a lot more when using the XF-35 F/1.4 but still not 100%) .
Now I am not comparing to sony or canon autofocus but for fuji this is a massive improvement and for the use case where we are taking one or 2 photos then quickly moving to the next person knowing that the autofocus has worked for us is a massive time saver
Having said that, my favourite photo ever was taking with the X-T10 in Newyork with the XF35 f/1.4 lens, but if i had any other fuji camera with me at that time with the XF35 F/1.4 lens i would have still got that shot

Don't forget the X-t30 and the X-T30II. I think it is the best value with the X-Trans III sensor and X-Processor 4 quad-core. $899 new with a lot of the same specs as the X-T4 minus dual card, weather sealing, in body image stabilization, tilt vs articulated screen, lower resolution screen and viewfinder, 1/4000 vs 1/8000 mechanical shutter, etc. Trade off is a smaller, lighter rig for every day carry. I think I will pick up a used X-T5 when the price drop occurs or maybe X-H2 but I love the classic dials. Great video and your thoughts are appreciated.

  • @boris.dupont

The X-Trans II is probably the best choice for a limited budget and I just gave my X-T1 paired with a 35mm f2 to my 16 yo niece who wants to study photography. Now for portraiture, which is what I do most of the time, the colours aren't accurate enough in my opinion and I prefer the X- Trans I. Anyway thanks for the video, I appreciate it! Cheers!

HI, after all the struggle to find an upgrade on my old X-E2s, I've considered to give a try to MFT platform, bought used Lumix GX-9. There is also very nice pancake 20mm f1.7 that is equal to 28mm f2.8 fuji pancake but it has faster aperture!

The Lumix GX9 is fantastic with that 20mm pancake. The f1.8 lens of Olympus are good as well. They are very small.

I’m actually missing my X-E2. Sold it after I got my hands on an X100V since I only used the 23mm f2 on the E2 anyways. But as you said: All sensors have their „look“ and for the money, I think the X-E2 is an absolute beast still.
