i well choose a EM5iii, that thing is cheap, really pretty, tiny and pack a lot of punch for the size, you can even do wildlife with it, get it and a 75-300, then you can have a wildlife setup that you can put in your briefcase, how awesome is that

Hey Emily, I completely agree with you about the Leica T type 701. After seeing your review about it, I went searching and found a brand new one for even less than what you normally pay for a used one-a super bargain. The camera is absolutely fantastic, and I’m very grateful for your review. As you mentioned, it beats the Fuji by miles, and I would buy several of them for the price of one Fuji X100VI. So thanks!

It’s a lovely camera. My son-in-law has just returned with mine from an arctic cruise, equipped mostly with the 14-140 lens for a ten times zoom for catching the whales etc. It’s usually fitted with a 12-32 kit lens which is compact and sharp. My daughter tells me that he took nearly 10,000 photos which will give him hours of fun editing and culling. Not sure what SD card I sent with him but suspect a 128GB micro SD with SD adapter…. but maybe not… I have a few. The GX80 is by far my most used camera of eight others, which include the iPhone, a Sony A7III, Lumix G9 and various others. As far as sexy cameras go, my Olympus E-M10 MkII is up there along with the Leica D-Lux7.

Affinity photo is pretty nice. The only thing missing is AI denoise, but that can be done with Topaz. Costs more upfront, but is a lifetime license, but updates only come for twelve months. Still, it works really well and in the long run is cheaper. Affinity has a six month try out period currently and Topaz has a 30 day trial if I remember correctly. So you can try it without risk.

@@analogue_cassette That's what i do in the fujifilm cameras, in-camera editing. Mostly cropping or changing a colour picture to b&w with the film simulations. Occasionally i'll use Snapseed (which is free) for straightening or adjusting the perspective, but other than that, i don't use editing software to enhance my photos. Anyone can make a bad photo look amazing in photoshop, lightroom, or similar editing software. I find these days that too many photos online look animated, or over-enhanced.

I'd always go for the Lumix GX9, most beautiful camera ever plus same size like the Fuji X 100 VI, (they actually look quite similar, though I find the Lumix prettier), also with the very nicest and still quiet shutter sound ever! I know it's officially supposed to be not weather sealed but I - involuntarily - tried it and found that it actually must be weather sealed (otherwise my copy should definitely be dead by now but it's alive and kicking). Add amazing image quality, impressive IBIS, quick performance, great menus - and you forget about the Fuji for good!

I really am getting itchy fingers for a small camera in situations I don't feel happy about, or safe to be, with my bigger cameras.
And the thought of being able to use my plethora of lenses makes it all the more appealing.
And this is where I'd shy away from the S9, not because I need a pitchfork to go with my soapbox, but because I've invested a shed load of pennies into MFT.
As for a monopod, I'm liking mine more and more for fast moving filming situations where I don't want or can't bring a Gimbal or tripod. It's great for locked off shots and adds stability, of sorts, when used as a counterweight for moving shots.
Your sponsored monopod looks sexy with it's ease of use.😀

I also rock the gx85 with 20mm f1.7. Aside from the slow autofocus, it's a banging camera setup.
Using this combo for the past 1.5 months also has me rethinking my whole setup. I too was trying for the one camera to do it all and bought the S5 and some lenses. At the end of the day, I never brought it with me for personal photos/videos. For work, my pair of Nikon D750s do great for wedding photos (and am already invested in the primes, 24-70 & 70-200 lenses), and my GH5/GH5s cameras do great for wedding video (Nikon adapted and also invested heavily in M43 lenses). I'll probably sell my S5 and L-mount lenses and put the money back in the bank for refreshing/upgrading my aging GH5/GH5s bodies.

Great rundown video. One thing about other camera conversions to Full Spectrum though, you dont have to remove the sensor, you just have to shim out the infared filter. Depending on the camera this is kore or less easy, but often you can do it yourself. At that point it acts just like the Fujifilm, only capturing more of the infared spectrum along with the full visible light soectrum. You then use a visible light spectrum filter with a kotch for the IR spectrum you are looking to focus. There are some great filters that also let some of the visible light spectrim theough as well, an example would be Kolari with a wide range of options. They also make clip-in filters that go over the sensor, including ones that replicate the OEM IR filter, so you can convert your camera back and forth between full spectrum and visible light and not have to change lens filters all the time, very cool.

Some great suggestions here Emily! I just bought an E-P7. OMDS have them discounted to £599 currently inclusive of the 14-42 pancake lens (not that I’ve used it as have a handful of primes). I couldn’t really justify £900 for a Pen-F body only.
One other thing to mention if we’re on an alternative to Fuji topic is regardless of what you buy, spend £129 of what you save on DXO Film Pack if you’re really wedded to the film simulations.

This was one of your very finest vids Emily🥰👍. The donkey was the best part!! I vote for the GX8. I have the GX9. I have the 15mm 1.7 and several others. Plus two Olympus bargains for about the same cost. I own M43 and the Nikon ZF which btw is 100 more expensive than the Fuji. Actually, there are lightly used or open box versions you can get for the same price! With Nikon, you’re getting full frame plus a plethora of vintage glass with a rich history of some incredible light gathering capabilities! The only reason I own, the other cameras is because they are significantly lighter weight. Between these two systems, I am completely set. Need nothing more. ❤

Sure, it's not "underrated" and the IBIS could be better, but it's an excellent choice for everyday photography, street photography etc. It's also a decent choice for someone starting out with wildlife or sports photography.

I don't have the x100 but I do have the Coolpix A 18.5mm APS-c (28 equivalent FF) and since I've bought it I can say I take way more photos and think about my composition a lot more than before. That 60mm f2.8 macro is great, but I do love the Pen-F and am glad I bought it over the X100V and X100VI. The 17mm f1.8 is a perfect pairing for it, and if ever in a discussion about megapickles, at least you can say yours goes up to 80mp.

About 18 months ago I sold my DSLR equipment and purchased a Panasonic GX85 and the Panleica 25 mm f1.4. I have since added the 15 mm Panleica f1.7 and the tiny Lumix 42.5 . I paid about $1300 for everything, prices were a bit cheaper, current price on MPB for all this is $1500. You could save one two or hundred dollars by getting the Lumix 25 or 20 mm and save some weight too. This whole set up gives 28, 50, and 85 mm equivalent and amazing image quality.

When i show people side by side OOC photos, most people prefer the B&W photo presets from the Panasonic ZS200 to even larger cameras (using the Leica profile). I have an Xpro3 which i like for Texas sunny days (so many older cameras have viewfinders polarized the wrong way, so you can wear sunglasses while using them.) That optical viewfinder is a lot of fun. The Xpro3 does take good photos, but they're typically just a hair softer than an Olympus w/ m4/3 super stabilization.

For an under $500 set up (buying used from MPB) - Olympus OM-D E-M1 + Lumix 17mm f/2.8. Want 20MP? Olympus OM-5 + Olympus 12-45mm f/4 or the Olympus 12-40 f/2.8 - $1500. Not really sure how many people would use 200mm on an everyday basis. but 24-90 is the sweet spot for most walk around photography. Less than 635 grams for the camera and lens.

Once experimented with the Fuji X100S...but the autofocus was far below par and I missed the possibility of an interchangeable lens. The lumix gx80 and the Lumix GX9 also tried. Actually I was looking for a camera for street photography and now I use the Olympus Pen F in combination with the Leica-Lumix 15mm 1.7 lens. I always buy second hand and have good experiences with it. Not least because it is pleasant for the wallet. In the meantime a large collection of micro four thirds lenses. For the other photography purposes I use the Lumix G9.

For people who don't mind more of a SLR-style body (as opposed to a rangefinder-like body), the Olympus/OM System E-M10 and E-M5 lines (including the OM-5) seem to be a lot lower in demand than the cameras featured here and can usually be found for reasonable prices too.

I love my PenF and I've had it since it came out. I have most of the Olympus prime lenses but my all time favorite lens for it is my 12-40 2.8 PRO. It is a little chunky but with a wrist strap it gives me so many choices when out on the street or just an impromptu photo walk in the park. If I do use a prime I usually have the Olympus 17mm 1.8 mounted.

I have the LUMIX G 14-42 mm HD on it now, but I have other m4/3 lenses to try out from my other LUMIX and Olympus cameras. I had a hard time choosing between the GX8, GX85 or the GX9. But after watching several videos I chose the GX8. You did tempt me with the S9 was it? The full frame camera, that looked cool, but I already have the m4/3 lenses, I’m good. Next purchase will probably be the G9 MII or OM System 1 MII. Choosing between them is tough too!

I want a Pen-F... But, the GX80 chapter is the most compelling argument pro-m43 I think anyone can make in 2024. A FULL KUT, fully featured, with very good 4K video, excellent 16mp stills, for less than the cost of a hyped APS-C or a very cheap full frame body w/o lens! Pretty much a professional kit for a complete bargain.

I'm a cyclist and in search for a portable, lightweight camera I can take on my rides. Something not bulky that I could easily strap on my back. What camera would you recommend including lenses? I'd prefer one versatile lens that can be use for multiple scenarios like still, landscape and fast moving objects (if possible). Very good and informative video by the way, there were too many options that piqued my interest but I can't make any decision (considering I know little to nothing about cameras)

I have two different set-ups: a fixed-lens APS-C compact, and a Fuji with three different excellent lenses. After two years, I can say I take 95% of my photos with the former, which happens to be a Ricoh GR3 X.
APS-C is large enough so that you can crop pretty much with little loss of quality, and the 40 mm equivalence means its not too wide from the beginning, so for everyday use, I don't need a telephoto. And my feet are my wide-angle ability -- when in doubt, just move out!
Most importantly however, is that a small camera like the Ricoh means you always have it with you, yet it's tons better than any always-aboard smartphones. (Smartphone photos are always either scuzzy and not up to par, or over-processed and unnatural-looking to me).

Thanks Emily, I just recently bagged a GX8 that I've been yearning for since I sold my last one in 2017, but still kick myself daily for selling my GX9 in 2020 thinking M43 was dying.. idiot!! You're a saint for the S9 tip... just bagged me a silver bag of gold... erm, yeah;P. I was eyeing the S9 on launch, but lack of EVF and my X100VI arriving early changed things. One big reason for breaking my Fuji cherry was to speed up my workflow, minus editing and shoot jpg with film sims, but it just hasn't worked out - I'm hoping with LUTS, the Lumix app and being forced to use LCD to see the results, as much as I adore the EVF/Optical...

The S9 with some compact autofocus primes from Sigma (17, 24, 45 & 90 mm) is an incredible combo. (nice for documenting everyday life)
Still waiting on the 18-40mm compact zoom from lumix though...
The 26mm f8 pancake is also a fun option set to its hyperfocal distance (everything 1.5m → ∞ is in focus) for a quick focus-free experience. (Nice for a pocketable travel companion)
7artisans also makes a nice cheap & compact manual prime (35mm f1.4 iii) for when light is lacking.

On a recent video with Panasonic reps they noted they have no plans for a small rangefinder mft camera, so if a LUMIX fan the ones you showed are likely it, but the other cameras noted so nice too! I think the gx8 might be perhaps best value. Btw the green is definitely the best choice for the S9!

I think X-T30 or X-E3 with an XF23mm f2 lens are decent options too. Fuji also has quite a few other small primes to choose from. Personally I'm using an X-E3 paired with an XF35mm f1.4; it looks quite sexy with square hood and takes decent picture too. Price is not that good for a 7 year-old camera and the autofocus is rather slow, however.

For $100 USD more I bought the Fujifilm X-S20 with the kit XF18-55mm lens. That said I bought my camera I think a little over a week before the X100VI was released. I didn't even know it existed. I wouldn't have bought the X100VI anyway, it isn't what I want in a camera. I needed the ability to change lens; and I like the idea of the X-S20's video capability. (At the same time I bought a telescope, being able to use my camera to take pictures with an adapter ring was important to me.) I really enjoyed shooting Fujifilm film in the past so being able to use their film simulations meant that I was very likely to chose this brand over another. If Olympus had had a nearly identically specced camera in the Pen line I might have gone in that direction, but it would have come down to looks, size, versatility, comfort of use, and film simulations. I loved my "old" Canon EOS Rebel X, but none of their cameras give a vintage feel. I knew I never wanted a digital SLR, because I wanted a small comfortable camera to used, like an old 35 mm. I didn't consider the X-H2, it was too big and the upgraded features were not worth the extra cost. For years my Canon SX130 IS PowerShot filled the gap in shooting film vs using my phone. Getting my hands on a digital camera with a view finder reminded me of how much I missed my old camera.
